Sony's Big Plans For MMO Gaming On The PLAYSTATION 3

Sony is planning on bringing gamers together in a bigger way than ever before. The PlayStation E3 2008 press conference introduced large scale multiplayer gaming plans for the PS3 with MAG, short for "Massive Action Game." The game is touting 256 player battles. While M$ is so worried about getting third party titles to go multiplatform, Sony is working on amazing first party titles that will dominate the industry. I dont even care about FF13 and if MGS4 when multiplatform then I wouldnt care either. There are too many first party games that I am looking forward to.

It wouldnt bother me in the least. I got to play it and that is all that matters. If I had enough time (and money) to play all the great games on the 360 as well then I would do that too. I just like playing great games. I just feel Sony is doing the right thing and investing in new games and powerful sequels. M$ is just going after 3rd party games. Not too many 1st party games coming down the line. 1st party games are almost always the best. Especially this gen.

Guess I should thank M$ because now I am less inclined to get a 360 since they dont have nearly as many exclusives that I wouldnt be able to play otherwise. No GeOW does hurt tho. Wish I was rich :(

As long as there are no subscriptions this could be a very successful move for the console market, MMO's are generally found on the PC.

Hopefully this is where the in-game advertising will come into effect and keep the subscriptions if any to a minimum.

I fell in love with guild wars and the only reason I tried it was because the Areanet's no subscriptions model.

All the plans in the world mean nothing if you don't deliver. PS3 is quickly approaching it's second birthday since launch. How long before one of these announced games/concepts become reality? As a fan it's nice to know what is in the works, but what is confirmed for the remainder of 2008?

LBP, RFOM2 (seen the size of the bosses?), Motorstorm 2, Socom... and then there's Farcry and Fallout 2, oh and Bioshock... that not enough for ya? how about the PSN games: Wipeout, Fat Princess, PJ Eden, Flower, Rag Doll Kung Fu... there are more, but i think i've made my point

11.1 - A list of games that are not available.

If these games launch this year, that will be great. Of the games listed, not all are platform exlusive so it's kind of a wash. The best reason to own a PS3 today is the Blu-Ray playback and for some, MGS. It's been close to 2 years and the only thing we ever see our promises of games to come.

I suppose if the PS3 is your only console it doesn't seem as bad. I'm still looking for a reason I bought my PS3 other than for movies.

whats wrong with a bluray player that plays games like Uncharted, HS, MGS4, LBP (confirmed of for this year) Motorstorm 2 (confirmed for this year), and RFOM2 (confirmed for this year), SOCOM (confirmed for this year) and many many great titles in the future?

I guess I dont understand your logic. Its a great gaming machine and a great movie player, just like its predecessor. if you are still trying to validate your purchase even though its still the cheapest bluray player on the market and MGS4, and Uncharted dont only show you some of what the console can do but also provide great gaming experiences maybe you should sell the console and invest in another 360.

11.4 - My 60 gig cost $599.

I counted 5 $399 BR players and one $299 BR player at BestBuy. You can get a Sony BR player for $339 at Circuit City.

I guess I am just getting tired of Sony announcing their "big" games years in advance. How long have we been hearing about LBP, Home, and Killzone 2 just to name a few? Now we hear their are 53 RPG's in the works? What does that even mean?

Resistance 1, Lair, Heavenly Sword and Metal Gear are the best games out on the PS3. Prologue is a nice demo if you don't mind waiting a couple years for the actual game. Why is that two years into the systems life, the "revolutionary" games that will define the PS3 are still a year or two away?

An exclusive agreement with NCSoft, creators of Guild Wars to deliver games to them. I though they was going to show off something, but the DC Comic game came instead. I think that would`ve been way more interesting, but maybe they`ll show some at Leipzig ?

I personally don't see how the PS3 can handle 256 player battles when games like WoW or Everquest get slowdown in major cities with fewer players than that. Sure, good graphics cards can handle smaller numbers, but 256 is quite a hefty number of players in one location. Furthermore, if you look at MMO games, the graphics aren't anywhere near single player titles are far as shadowing and polygons are concerned. I will be impressed if Sony can get 256 players with good graphics and no slowdown

ut3 (mods & keyboard/mouse)
gta4 with friends
resistance 1
bad company
burnou paradise( 1st game I play in the morning!)
gt prologue
mgo/metal gear( I must pass big boss but its hella hard)
naruto demo!
also I watch alot of videos & movies
I spend alot of time downloading music, videos & pics.
I spend alot of time on this site too.
it starts all over for me in sept.
Resistance2, socom, lbp & psn games.
I'm also excited for veronica & the next qore so...
if youre bored then you are just a boring person.

1 - So many MMOs

I have never played MMOs, I wonder if it will be worth it. I wonder if SOE will port Everquest, Star Wars, the Matrix. I also wonder if EA will port their LOTR MMO. If all these arrive on PS3, along with NCSoft's MMOs, the Agency and MAG, then PS3 will be the MMO console, and perhaps ACtiblizzard will want to port WoW. Combine that with LBP, Resistance 2, SOCOM and Warhawk, and the PS3 is truly becoming a powerhouse for Online Social Gaming, especially if all these games get HOME lobbies. I just hope there are no prohibitively expensive monthly fees for MMOs otherwise I will end up still not playing them.

I also hope WKC gets an online mode similar to a MMO, it looks insane.
