Playing to Perfection in Mirror's Edge

Kotaku:

"What first struck me about the game was just how pretty it is. Mirror's Edge using the Unreal Engine but it does so to create something so unfamiliar, a first-person perspective in a bright, crisp world. Matching the simple aesthetic, the games controls are very straight forward. Granted I only had a chance to run and interact with the environment, so I'm not sure how combat will hold up."

More after the jump.

This reminds me of a game that was out for the original xbox. My brother was really big on it. You woke up in a hospital bed and saw yourself in mirrors. I think it's a one word title too. I'm sure someone will pick it up.

Anyways, I like the fact that they color the places you need to go red. That's a good addition that will allow you to fly from place to place. I just hope it doesn't make it completely unbelievable.

1.1 - Namco's Breakdown
I remember the character vomiting and drinking soft drinks from vending machines for health :-)

I think I'm going to rent this first. It has a great concept but will it be to mundane. I just hope it has a great story line backing it up. If all you do is run on top of buildings its going to get old pretty quick

If DICE doesn't fix the problems with BattleField: Bad Company with a patch, then I won't even consider buying this game. EA just continues to be sloppy with releasing games that are half baked.

aside from the art direction this game doesn't look all that exciting, or special

its first person free running, why would i want to do that?
unless they show something that is super intriguing i'll pass on this

the combat also looks bad in my opinion

although kudos to the developer for using the unreal engine and making their game look not like very other unreal game

finally a dev who isn't lazy

3.1 - I think the concept is awesome
can you name a FPS that gets platforming done well? If you ever do ANY platforming in a FPS, it's almost aways a misery as you try to jump around like a lunatic. This game accurately portrays what it would be like to do platforming while in FP view and make it look realistic. There's climbing, grabbing, jumping, running, swinging, etc etc etc.

One of the main reasons I like FPS, is because the game looks as though it coming from your eyes. Running over rooftops in FPS mode accurately sounds more than just intriguing to me.

If they nail the combat, this game will rock.

Mirror's Edge PWNs all other games at E3. Stunning, fun, innovative, AWESOME!

"If the brief snippet of the game is any indication of the rest of the title, than I can see myself playing and replaying levels until I land my runs, my leaps, my rolls just right. And I'll do it for the sheer joy of pulling it off. That's what all games should deliver."
Kotaku and Mirror's Edge FTW!

I like the Close Quarters Combat techniques That girl uses. I will pick up a copy. I must say though it hardly pwns KZ2 or Kratos.

This game is perfect for uploading some speedruns to youtube.

I'm still a little iffy about Mirrors Edge. It's good to see a game that is different and stands out, but the concept of just running through a game in first person view isn't enough to get me hooked on it. The gameplay looks pretty nice, and it's pretty innovative but it's not a game I would spend $60 bucks on.... I will probably pick up Mirrors Edge at $29.99 or $39.99.

I was watching a gameplay preview on G4 the other night and in the game they actually put a little dot in the middle that looks pretty much like dirt. It isn't a very clean dot. Anyway, I looked at it and sh&*, my kids have been touching the TV again. I got up, got a rag, got some cleaner and started wiping at it. Then I realized it wasn't dirt after all. I hit play on TiVo and the guy starts talking about how that dot is there to keep your equilibrium. There are studies that it is helps you to focus on a spot like that to keep from getting motion sickness.

7 - hopefully,
I really hope the runners vision is optional, I want to figure out how to go from place to place, without someone telling me exactly what to do, besides that, this game is looking great, but I don't know how they're going to keep me interested when I'm playing this game, they're shooting for a good story, hopefully they pull it off, or otherwise, running across buildings and away from people could get repetitive very quickly, hooray for colour!
