1 - LOL, sour grapes
FFXIII sells the most in Japan. Everywhere else, JRPGs in general are niche. If MS needed it in one place, it's Japan.

To be honest it reeks of worry.

"Big deal. This is not a problem or issue. Microsoft will continue to achieve success everywhere with it’s vast library of titles"

Big deal is not good PR talk, it sounds like they don't have a real answer. Brushing it off won't work.

I am not worried at all, the E3 announcement has worn off now, and in retrospect, it seems like Microsoft needs to cling to making things multiplatform to survive, by paying up.

While the 360 is focusing on games from previous generations, Sony is making the generation defining games for this generation.

mm.... and FF title in Japan shouldn't be taken so lightly, in Japan an FF title can sell millions of copies, and MGS4 showed that the PS3 can be sold by huge numbers.

Japan has a higher per capita sales rate, and a higher absolute amount as well, but the US is not that far behind in FF sales. I'm not making predictions either way, just sayin. I'm sure anyone with both consoles will buy the PS3 (not a port) more often than not, and then those with either will obviously buy either.

3 - They are
Absolutely right. I mean Microsoft has tried alot to get Japan gamers to get the 360, and with all the great games on the system there really isn't a reason they shouldn't be more gamers who have the system.

So why release I title that most will not play? Besides looking at all the rpg's on the 360, and how they are selling this is a great move on SE. In less than two months we get Infinite Undiscovery, and in the spring Star Ocean 4. So now with 360 owners knowing that there is an FF coming, just by the sheer amount of software moved on the system. SE just opened the 360 to more FF goodness...It's a good time...

3.1 - Lost Odyssey didnt even sell 1,000,000 copies.
Lol. SE would have to be on crack thinking they will EVER make money without Sony, unless they are going to switch over to all portables.

Sorry buy all of those games will flop on the 360, and SE will be in financial trouble yet again. Guess who isn't bailing them out this time.

Its guaranteed that if Lost Odyssey came to the PS3 as an exclusive WW it would have sold 1,000,000 or maybe 2,000,000.

Square is being absolutely retarded right now, and after SO4 and ID bomb, I want to see how they explain to their investors why they only released on the Xbox360. The difference in install base 5,000,000 consoles WW. The region where JRPG's matter Microsoft is non-existent. Letting MS buy off games isnt good for gaming. Its turning developers lazy and letting them dictate the changing in the video game industry and not the consumers.

6 - I'm sure MS is just happy they got FF at all
The 360 doesn't sell well in Japan and MS is aware of it. Even if it was on 360 in Japan the sales would be minimal. It still is a shame to the Japanese 360 owners though because they can't enjoy the game and will be forced to by a PS3 if they don't already have one.

The American and European games market are the biggest in the industry so I'm sure the 360 version will sell. Maybe not as much as Japan, but FF is obviously an Eastern franchise.

No matter how anyone tries to spin it MS getting FF 13 at all is a huge blow to Sony. For any non-Japanese consumer that was waiting for the game to purchase a PS3 that is just one less reason to.

50% of FF sales are in Japan.

JRPGs sell less than 1 million copies on 360 - even though they're exclusives and being sold in Japan

6.3 - Seeing as FFXII
Its a blow because Square is supposed to be a Sony ally in a sense. But as far as hardware matters, which is the real issue, Sony still gains 90% of the boost they would have received anyways.

FFXIII on the 360 won't sell more than 1 million WW. The bulk of the sales will still be on the PS3(4-5 million). You know Microsoft paid a lot of money and all they did was 1. Screw Sony fans and make them even less likely to buy their console
2. Add yet another RPG which no one on the 360 is going to buy.

Its a blow to Sony's morale, but they recovered well today with many announcements including the best looking game I have ever seen (Killzone 2). The FF megaton fizzled out in a day. Its back to Microsoft having nothing after Gears and Sony showing why the PS3 is worth the extra $$$

-----

This is exactly what I've been saying on various message boards.
Sony did rebound from the FFXIII announcement by proving to us that they're focused on what they have coming now as well as the future, exclusively that is.
Microsoft's conference showed absolutely nothing that gave us an idea about where they're going after '08. Everyone was so focused on the FFXIII announcement they didn't realize they have absolutely nothing to exclusively look forward to in '09 at this point.
Maybe at some other event they'll start presenting some games for '09, but then Sony'll present more. Sony will always be a step ahead of Microsoft when it comes to the number of (100%) exclusive titles.

7 - Well,
as far as I am concerned... FFXIII not coming to Japan is not a particularly big deal. Why not? Because i don't live there. From the way this argument is going, you'd think each and every single user was some stock analyst.

"It doesnt't come in Japan, so this move is useless". Uh, not to me, man. I still get to enjoy, and therefore I win. Peezowww. I don't to spend my midnights shaking in disbelief or dissapointment because Microsoft didn't make an extra d@mn profit. Are you serious, this isn't a big deal. And who owns a 360 in Japan. He probably collects consoles for a living, and auctions them off on ebay to kids in third world countries.

you guys act is you were born yesterday, microsoft sells games better than sony, the hype, the marketing, microsoft will push FFXIII as hard as they can for great sells...that's why GTAIV sold better in xbox 360, that's why halo 3 sold in 24hrs what MGS4 took a month..they know how to sell games.

8.1 - All the games you talked about sold well in 24 hours...but after a month...they sold like crap..
Sony games sell steady...

Sony will still dominate next year...because FF13 will not get to the Xbox 360 till 2010..it will hit japan (PS3 only) in 2009...

So microsoft still loses in 2008 and in 2009.

One game will not make a system...and FF13 will not save the Xbox 360 from doom.

Gears of War 2 will help starve off the demise of the Xbox 360 for at least 6 months....after that it is all down hill.

Even nintendo destroyed themselves this week.

8.3 - Are you sure it wasn't because of the install base? Lol
Wow that is stupid as hell. Anyways, GTAIV sold to a higher percentage of PS3 owners than 360 owners, and gave the PS3 more of a hardware boost. Thats not a win at all. Thats failure. And MS paid $50million for that...lol.

9 - My opinion:
Joe shmoe in America/Europe really doesnt care. Understandable he is getting the game. But we are talking about a company. Having the game release in japan only for ps3 is a big problem a very large percentage of ALL ff sales are attributed to japan. Joe Shmoe may not care but for msoft as a company this is really going to hurt them and create horrible pr for the few 360 japan owners they have. Good luck ever gaining japan after such a horrible pr disaster.

11 - Do not
underestimate the 360 audience purchase power...For a brand new rpg, on a system dominated by PC developers, Lost Odessey sold incredibly well. In fact to many peoples surprise.

It's like Jay-z said...

"Haters no like, but they gotta fucc with it, cause the flows so tight"...

Microsoft, keep the games flowing...Let the haters swallow hard.

For you down below.

Based on your 1 million sales mark then I guess every PS3 game not in the millions is a flop then?

Or

Every exclusive that doesn't sell 4 million (Gears) or better is not a good exclusive?

You fail...Lost Odessey was a success. Which equals more rpgs...See how it works.

It sold less than a million copies worldwide and was a commercial flop. The fact is, 360 owners buy the same genres as XBox owners - shooters and driving games.

It was outsold by Heavenly Sword, for Jesus sake, which had an even lower install base and was generally considered to be terrible.

Yeah, generally if a game's attach rate isn't good enough to achieve 1 million worldwide, it's considered a flop. It could still be good, but commercially its a disaster.

12 - this is funny
I have since monday found one new found thing funny about the "HUGE: microsoft announcement, and that is that when ps3 first came out and sales were so low you xbox fans were saying "ps3 will never come back" and "sony is no longer no 1" and "ps3 is guaranteed 3rd place this generation" then for several months in a row ps3 continued and continues to outsell xbox and even wii at times and those statements vanished. But, fast-forward up from e3 2008 and d1cksofts conference sucks other than one game announcement and all of a sudden you seem to "breath a sigh of relief" and now some way you xbox fans feel a somewhat confirmation on the statements highlighted earlier and those statements died up until monday after the failure conference.

you know somewhat i get the feeling if not for D1cksofts hidden bribes xbox 360s sales as seen todays would be several times lower, i mean xboxs machine is a copy box if you look at who all they have stole games from:

halo-was originally for pc but moved to xbox(probably a big money offer)

RARE-originally nintendo but they flashed the cash

Sega Shemu and a host of other games-flashed cash to sega

playstation-ff as you know it was never supposed to see the light of day, but hey what can 6 billion dollar bribes not do

atari-sure theres something on the copy box from that

in all this machine has been nothing but a "MASTER SYSTEM" gears is its only game and that only happed cause the paid tons of money for it, other than that Epic probably wouldve made it for ps3 and pc

one question though is that i want to know how playstation fans are being called fanboys? ff13 is our game and ps3 is our system, if anything and this is it xbox fans are the fanboys

15 - First the "Stealing Sony's FranchisesLOL," and now this.
Is it just me or has Microsoft's PR been nothing but d1cks throughout this whole ordeal?

Brushing off issues to look tough, thus alienating your JP consumer base? Not a smart move. If Sony said that about us over here, we'd probably revolt or commit suicide.

Sometimes makes you wonder if any of those MS boys had any real education, or if they're just trying to wing it like Bill Gates did.

Well considering 2/3 of FF sales are in Japan . . .

This whole thing is more of a big deal psychologically. The main FF games were one of the PlayStation's biggest exclusives and now it is being shared. It gives fanboys ammunition in their battles, but most people don't really care about one-upping each other on the internet.

Sony can still move more consoles when this game hits. All they have to do is bundle it with Advent Children Complete (Blu-Ray) and Final Fantasy XIII and there you, a guaranteed success at retail... It is also something that the competition can not match since Blu-Ray is exclusive to Playstation 3.

19.1 - Not sure about this
I am an xbox owner and only planned to get a ps3 because of FFXIII. Since the game is going to the xbox, its going to save me about $400-$500 because now I do not have to buy one to play the game. This is probably similar to a lot of xbox owners that were planning to get the ps3 because of FF. Since they dont have to, they are going to save $$ by getting the game that releases the same time in NA, whether quality is the same or not (disc).

The game is going to sell a lot regardless, but its not going to be a system mover i.e GTAIV.

Well, I guess those 600,000 Japanese Xbox 360 owners will just have to buy PS3's if they want to play Final Fantasy XIII! Final Fantasy XIII not coming out on the 360 in Japan only benefits the PS3 even more.

As long as Final Fantasy Versus XIII stays PS3 Exclusive, the PS3 wont be affected by Final Fantasy XIII going multi-plat. because anyboday that wants to play FF Versus XIII will have to make a PS3 purchase. People still see the Final Fantasy series as mostly a Playstation franchise and people will be buying PS3's for FFXIII because the particular audience that buys Final Fantasy games are previous Playstation customers and they are more likely to buy a PS3 because they are already familiar with the Playstation brand AND the Playstation controller.

Just think if Sony did a Limited Edition Final Fantasy PS3 bundle... PS3's would be flying of the shelves in Japan and around the world. If Metal Gear Solid 4 spurred PS3 sales to 80,000+ units in one week on the initial launch of MGS4, I think that PS3 sales in Japan could hit 200,000+ units in just the first week of the launch of the game.

22 - MS needs a boost in Japan more than everywhere else
They will see a boost in the west but it will not be much because the PS3 version will be superior and will come out on less discs compared to the x360 version so naturally the PS3 will see a bigger boost. This is just common sense.

24.1 - sony folks sound very bitter....
and it shows in their denial about micro's business moves....personally I could care less about FF games, because quite frankly western rpg's appeal more to me but JUST THE FACT THAT FFXIII WILL BE ON THE 360 IS HUGE. "Rome was not built in a day", but this news is like completing a popular Roman Arena...its a major step and shows micro holds nothing back when it comes to bringing great games to the xbox brand.

"This is why i preffer Sony."

Lets be honest, you like most sony loyalists on this site "prefer sony", because you praise everything sony does and hate micro simply because they have proven to be a real threat to a company that you feel loyal to....yes its that simple, so just please stop with all the fake excuses sony folks make up; "they copy stuff"= so does sony, "No Big deal"/fake PR= they all do that, sure they care but ALL PR folks downplay the negatives while trying to cling to positive aspects= SPIN.

Then you act as if saying its "No big deal" shows they don't care about Japanese gamers, yeah right, micro has brought alot of jrpg's to japan so far, hell micro even released exclusives from the creator of FF himself and although the some of the jrpg's did well given the install base the fact remains that japanese gamers for the most part a very loyal to homegrown products when it comes to gaming, SE may have wanted to keep it exclusive to ps3 in japan for sony's sake and in the end even IF micro was willing to pay even more to "bribe" SE into bringing it to japan, would it be worth it?= Not really, because in the end almost all the sales would be heavily in the ps3 favor, because of install base and of course once again japanese gaming market heavily favors homegrown games/consoles.

NOW, that micro pulled off a blockbuster move by bringing the sony's biggest previously exclusive game over to the 360, all sony loyalist want to talk about is Japan, ha ha it all just sounds like WEAK DAMAGE CONTROL, everybody knows 360 will be dead last in japan no matter what happens this gen. The bottom line is this is great news for micro/360 owners and it definitely makes the 360 a even more attractive purchase for those in all the other regions.

24.2 - So many things wrong with this post.
Ok first off i asked for one but never really expected anyone to come out and try to defend such a an outright arrogant statement. Yes they have funded JRPG's and that in itself makes this statement even more facked up and confusing.

You come at me venting on every Playstation fan that has hurt yoru feelings. While trying to mask your true feelings under the rest of bullshit you posted. I can't see how you could interpret this as anything but them not caring much about Japanese gamers.

"Then you act as if saying its "No big deal" shows they don't care about Japanese gamers,"

OK lets look at this from another angle. If the smallest of 3 children for your parents and on Xmas your parents give trips to Disney to your other 2 bigger siblings. When you ask why your not getting a trip they reply "Big deal" How you view that?... Stop being a zombie it's that type of mentality why Microsoft just suddenly stopped all 1st party support for the Xbox leaving it's user base for the Xbox360. Well i guess if some of it's users are so mindless that they are gonna follow them and drink their greener pastures gospel, why not!?

"NOW, that micro pulled off a blockbuster move by bringing the sony's biggest previously exclusive game over to the 360, all sony loyalist want to talk about is Japan, ha ha it all just sounds like WEAK DAMAGE CONTROL."

Clearly this means alot more to you than it does me because am still gonna buy and play Final Fantasy XIII. That's the problem with Xbox360 loyalists most of you hate Final Fantasy or atleast have expressed dislike for the series. However now you all love it, this level of brand loyalty is frightening.
