FFXIII Makes Japanese Xbox 360 Owners Feel Abandoned

The Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII won't see light in Japan due to the abysmal sales the console is having in that region. However Xbox 360 owners over at 2chan are saying they feel "abandoned" by Square-Enix's choice to only release a Playstation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIII in their country.

This I agree with. Funny thing is, we will continue seeing articles like this for months to come and many opinions from Sony PS3 fans who are mourning, Xbox fans who are laughing and Nintendo fans who are saying "what about meee?".

Personally, I would rather have all great games on the PS360 than on the wii at all. Am a graphic whore and like to be blown away. The wii isn't doing that for me and Nintendo's recent E3 conference reinforced my decision to never purchase a wii.

Japan don't care about the 360..If your a graphic whore PS3 is the system to own right now..I remember reading a interview with sqaure and he was informing us how the PS3 is powerful hardware and they will take full advantage of it..FF13 is meant to play on the PS3..Dont get me wrong the 360 version will be great too but i doubt it will better since its a port..

1.3 - What all 3 of the 360 owners in Japan are upset now?
I find this hard to believe. I find it hard to believe that there are one console owning 360 fans in Japan to begin with. It would seem to me that a VERY large percentage of the what 600k 360 owners in Japan are hardcore gamers that also own a PS3. I'd like to see statistics on how many of those 600k 360 only own a 360.

If SE thought there was ANY money to be made by localizing the 360 version to Japan they would. Selling it to 3 people isn't worth it.

The only reason square is releasing ff13 for the xbox 360 is because of higher install base in NA. Square mentally right now is about making money, and they don't see money being made releasing ff13 on the xbox 360 in japan. Their no profit to be made in japan, xbox 360 sales are horrible in japan. With that being said, its a safe bet that ff13 will be the final nail in the 360 coffin in japan.

At this point, your best bet is to not trust any third party developer that makes a game exclusive to a system unless the system holder( Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) is helping publish the title.

The biggest thing coming out of E3 for me at least is how well, *some* third party developers have begun to understand what the PS3 is truly capable of. Here is the catch though: Unless they are specifically making a game for it and taking advantage of all the system has to offered, that untapped potential will remain untapped for eons to come by.

Relax everyone!
What makes you think they won't release it on X360 in Japan. It's not much work to replace english with japanese once the US 360 version is done. They only say exclusive to PS3 in Japan now so Sony won't hate them as much, but when the time comes.....mwhahahaha
Maybe a Wii version is possible too, why stop now when they already got blood on their hands.

@himdeel-No,360 gamers do not consist of miltary members, becuase they buy their consoles on base through a company called AAFES which is US Retailer. Their sales are counted in US sales not Japanese sales. Now their could be some americans who live in Japan that buy a 360 on the Japanese economy. but through the 6 years I was there I did not see it that much. I went to the closest military base to buy my 360.

I wouldn't mind just having english text and menu. It's actually better that way, just like how english voice overs doesn't go with anime anyways.
They should definitely consider that and release the japanese version worldwide.

MS didn't pay for it. They have the largest install base outside of Japan. SE can't ignore 20 million consoles.

If they didn't pay for it, then why is FF XIII versus not also coming along for the 360 ride? The same argument could be applied to versus as to making it multiplatform, but it stayed exclusive.

7.5 - could be.
Who knows? Those 20 million customers are compelling, but by the time the games out the landscape could be totally changed. I think it's about equally likely Square didn't want to miss those customers 'or' Microsoft might have given them a little cash - certainly there's products Squares developing for the Xbox360 as exclusives which would logically be a better fit with the PS3's base, so there's reason to be suspicious. And imo MS's E3 boasts, and the newness of all this - combined with certainty the PS3 and X360 would release in tandem - had a bit of a 'high level talks' (re:cash) feel to it.

We'll know more if the PS3 version's tranlation, for no particular reason, all of a sudden takes an inordinate amount of time - which just happens to coincide with the Xbox360's port duration. There's no logical reason to leave the PS3 version on the shelf rather than in stores (US and Europe) ASAP, 'unless' SE's been given some sort of incentive not to release it. Time will tell.

i find it hard to believe there isnt some cash involved in this deal. they said they'll start on the x360 port when the japanese ps3 version is done and then release it at the same time for US and EU.
Porting a game from another platform and translating it takes the same amount of time? reallly??

7.7 - Does anyone have proof?
Who has proof that MS paid money for FFXIII? If that were true, then MS would have had FFXIII a long time ago. Tetsuya Nomura of Square said that the large install base in the US and Europe was the reason. He also said that the small base in Japan prevented them from releasing it there. If MS paid for it, Japan would get it, too.

In what universe does the 360 have "largest install base outside of Japan". Every viable gaming system aside from the PS3 has a larger install base outside of Japan. By your rationale they should be making it for the PS2 and Wii instead - not to mention the PSP and DS - all 4 of which have much larger install bases than the 360 in every market.

You want proof? Read this.

http://n4g.com/NewsCom-1697...

The arrogance of that statement is proof enough that they are trying to go after PS3 exclusives. Not to mention, GTAIV DLC is proof they buy off companies, and Dean Takahashi proved they buy off the press. Do you need any more?

20 million users means next to nothing if the percentage of JRPG lovers is almost non-existant. It's less than 5% of the 360 install base. Don't believe me? Look at the sales of the only 4 JRPG games available for the console. ALL of them are UNDER 1 million.

8 - I guess they have every right too
Square is betraying their "core Market", the Japanese consumer here. Jap 360 owners deserve to experience FFXIII just like their euro and NA brethren.

But i guess MS doesnt wanna get pushy with square after their megaton annoucement. Japanese 360 owners need to make themselves heard on the official xbox forums and let MS and Square know that the 360 version will sell.

Considering that the 360 version will be finished well after that PS3 version is released in Japan and given just how insanely popular the Final Fantasy series is there, wouldn't you think that Japanese 360 owners who don't have a PS3 (assuming that any of those exist) are more likely to buy a PS3 and play on day one than wait for months and months?

That's just tough.

Think how abandoned PS3 owners in US and EU feel since we have to wait for the 360 version to finish to development before we get the game.

I think there is yet a long way for them to go in the PS3 development process. In a recent interview SE mentioned that they hadn't motion control into the game yet.

For an (Ex-exclusive) to not have implemented or at least planned motion controls yet (opinion--->) points to a long way to go in development.

9.4 - damage control
9.1

Of course they'd say that. But i find the declaration (this far out) that the PS3's 'translation' and the XBox360's actual 'development' will just dovetail in nicely not leaving the PS3 version at all delayed, well, a little bit.. suspect. But how do you prove it anyway? If the Xbox360's development takes a few extra months, as it's bound to if history is any guide - just claim the 'translating of both versions is proving much more difficult than first thought' etc (while the ps3 version, finished, sits gathering dust).

I'm not disappointed that the Xbox360 is getting the game; i am disappointed that imo it, going on the strength of their statements regarding dual release, looks like the PS3 may well now be delayed - or at the very least run a strong risk of it - for suspect reasons.

10 - You should take issue with your purchasing public.
It's like when people here in Nebraska b*tch because major attractions don't come here, yet when a concert is announced hardly anybody buys tickets, then it gets canceled. Show some support, or expect to get left out of the loop. The ice cream man will make more trips to the neighborhoods where he sees kids outside playing all of the time.
