Final Fantasy XIII & Versus XIII Live Events at E3 Explained

Joyful Xbox 360 owners are painting the town red tonight all due to a surprise announcement made by Yoichi Wada explaining that North America and Europe will see Final Fantasy XIII on Microsoft's Xbox 360 as well as Sony's Playstation 3. Japan's Playstation 3 however keeps the exclusive status for now.

Does this therefore mean Versus XIII coming to Xbox 360? Well according to Hashimoto NO! In response of one person asking will Versus will be following suit.

We did that first is the worst crap in grade school, with our urinals. And then after that we'd see who could piss the furthest and had the best aim and the highest arc. The winner got the other kids lunch money if I remember correctly. :D

this was kinda a big disapointment.. i can't believe the FFXIII is goin on the 360 as well.. but its a matter of how long after the ps3 i think... but now the only thing that can trump that anouncment for sony is a FFVII remake(very far fetched at this point) but XIII was a huge WTF!!! so anything could happen.. i can't wait to see what Sony has in store..
At least Versus is stayin put with the PS3.. and the way it looks Star Ocean 4 is goin to be on the PS3 tho

So all this bashing of Sony for console installs is now nullified because MS is allowing installs on the 360. I don't care if they're optional or mandatory, installs are installs, and they ALWAYS help gameplay performance. They've been doing this on PC's ever since their inception, so it's not a bad thing on consoles if it boosts game loading times and other performance-related areas.

sweet. ps3 owners still get an exclusive ff13 spin off that has been pushed back in development to focus on making ff13 go multiplat, which will push that game back even more too.
I dont think any console is going to be playing a ff13 game any time soon.
Hey squaresoft, make another ff7 spin-off i dont think you have milked that one enough.

Im a Xbox 360 owner - and feel a bit sorry for the PS3 owners - nevertheless the visual quality will be better on the PS3. I believe both consoles will have their strength and weakness'. If they do something with Xbox Live it would be massive.

Im just glad im going to be playing it as im a life long fan.

Plus now the whole world will be FF crazy!

I kinda wanted too see the question "did Microsoft pay you guys for this decision". Maybe Microsoft didn't even have to pay and Square really believes that the install base would cause FFXIII to not sell as well as an exclusive.
At least it would give a clearer view of what Japanese developers think of the western market.

Underwhelming indeed. Microsoft unveiled their "attack of the clones" strategy today. Copying pretty much every idea they haven't already attempted to rip off. I think if they went any further and brought out their Wiimote knock-off, lawyers would have stormed the stage. Gears 2, Fable 2 and Portal: Still Alive interest me, but I actually lost interest in Fallout 3 after seeing the lackluster footage. Resident Evil 5 was probably the high point of their conference until the megaton bomb dropped at the end, which will be the only thing most people will take away from the 2 hour spectacle... until someone makes GIF's of Shane Kim and that fat chick's performance in that movie abomination.

Shame on Sony for managing to let FFXIII slip through their grasp. The facepalm I did when I recognized the trailer doesn't even describe how disappointed I am with them. How they managed to allow that to go to their direct competition is beyond me.

I don't care that it's going multi, i'm just mad because for the most part multi platform games are not up to par with console exclusive titles.
i really hope we don't get a gimped version of FF XIII now. This is a game that is tailor made to take advantage of PS3s graphical/storage capabilities. Who knows whether we'll get the same experience now.

I'm not knocking 360 graphical capabilities either, it's a capable machine, but i'm sure square enix will try to deliver the same product on both systems. whereareas if it were exclusive they would try to take advantage of ps3 and try to push the system to it's very limits.

I think Final Fantasy XIII will do just as well on Xbox 360 as on PS3

Look what happend with GTA IV - I reckon Square Enix looked at GTA and thought look at all those sales we can get if we make it multi-platform

Anyway as a Final Fantasy fan - i would prefer if more people had access to the game so they can bow in its glory.

I own the 360 and PS3, obviously i am getting the PS3 version. I don't feel like over heating my 360 and changing multiple disc. I want a high quality version its obvious the DVD version will be way compressed its a given. This decision was made, to put Square Enix back on top in the western area. It is exclusive to the playstation 3 in japan along with Versus. This was a great decision, regardless of the fan boyism. And yes Microsoft did offer them money for a 360 port,but its buisness and Square Enix needed it.

the FFXIII announcement was HUGE for both M$ and sony! but PS3 only players are not screwed up at all because it's still coming to the PS3!

but serious question here, I've never play any FF games, in fact the only RPG I've played was kingdom hearts 1&2! in those games, we can go to any place planet we want anytime we want! so, what will happen if the game comes on multiple disc? I know LO came on 4 discs but I don't know about how was it! will you be able to go to earlier stage/planet/places in the middle of the game? like you're on disc 3 but you want to go back to the 1st level. you need to change disc for that? or you are simply not allowed to? which one?

If the 360 version does very well, Square will probably port Versus too.
Maybe that announcement will be another show stealer at the next E3.

Anyway at least this news today will probably make Sony step up their game and us gamers will get better games as a result.

At this point I don't see either system dying so as long as competition is there, there will be better and better games coming out (at least I hope so).
