Save Fallout 3 Petition

Fallout 3 has been banned in Australia, but Aussie gamers aren't giving up without a fight. Gameplayer.com.au has launched a petition in a bid to change the minds of the Australian censors:

"This petition is deigned to show to the Attorney General that the Australian public - the people to whom he answers - disprove of the current classification system. In particular to highlight the lack of consistency and hypocrisy in its decision making…"

It did not work for GTA 4, so I highly doubt its going to work for this. Time for another import which in most cases works out cheaper.

I believe anyone caught importing a copy will receive a substantial fine.

I'm not 100% sure as I'm not Australian but I'm sure that's what some Oz N4G members have said.

Wouldn't importing a banned item be breaking a law? like contraband or something? If so then I would imagine there will be some sort of penalty if caught.

1.4 - Its not illegal and there should be no fine
In Australia all they should be able to do it control what people are able to purchase in stores. But anyone who wishes to get the game from an import should be fine (I hope).

I'm glad that Canada doesn't have this problem but I would be so angry that one of the games I'm most looking forward too this year isn't going to be sold in the country. It may not do anything but I'll sign the petition anyways.

1.6 - yeah I guess so
I wouldn't know what to tell the xbox 360 owners in Australia. Either get a ps3 or maybe get a hacked xbox 360. I'm really not too sure, all I know is that this ban in general is pathetic. Lets hope something get resolved.

Either way involves spending a lot of money, Hardly seems worth it really. So no matter what someone is effected by this in a negative manner. Shame

To XXXXXXXXXX MP

I am a 24 year old resident of XXXXXXXXXXXXX, and I am writing to you in regards to The OFLC (Office of Film and Literature Classifications).

As a 24 year I am of course a user of computer games. And whilst I know there are much more important issues on your agenda, I was wondering what your views are on having an R rating for computer entertainment, and if you could raise the issues with your colleagues. As you may or may not know, Computer software deemed by the OFLC to have a rating of R18+ cannot be sold in Australian states or territories.

As you are aware, computer entertainment has not been around for a long time and whilst many people who play computer games are much younger than 18, many gamers are now 18 and over. It is now a part of my generations culture, and a growing number of us are starting to realise that Australian laws have not adapted to this new entertainment medium. Just as films have an R18+ rating, many of us believe that as grown adults, we should also be able to purchase computer entertainment products that are not suitable for children. Two examples are the recently released Grand Theft Auto 4 and the soon to be released Fallout 3. As they are both sequels in series that have been running since the early 90's, they have many fans that are well over the age of 18. Yet we were unable to purchase unedited copies of Grand Theft Auto 4, as we will also be unable to purchase unedited copies of Fallout 3, due to it recently being rated as R18+ by the OFLC.

An option that many of my fellow gamers are taking is importing. The high value of the Australian dollar, and the lower taxes in other countries are making it a viable option for many gamers, despite it being highly illegal and having fines of more than $1500 for caught offenders. This act damages the Australian games industry, and while it may seem like a minor issue, I can promise you it will only continue to get worse.

I realise that this may not be a state issue, and as such I would appreciate if you could forward contact details of the Federal MP for this area, or inform me of the best way of raising this issue.

Sincerely XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

3 - I'm not from Australia, but...
I signed it. There's no reason for our Aussie friends to miss out on what looks to be such a promising game. There shouldn't be any need to import/edit a game just because of their classifications. As it said in the article, it IS the responsibility of parents to choose what their children can experience. There's much worse things in this world than a video game.

I'm European but I signed too. I believe the Australian public should have the right to decide weather or this game is suitable for them. Not a man they dont know. Still dont think this'll work though, Unfortunately.

First petition I ever signed too :D

I feel bad for the australian people who want this. It's a little strange banning something that we still now very little about isn't it? I also think a person deciding what another can and cant do is just wrong. If someone wants to play this game then nobody should be able to stop them (provided they meet the legal age and that)

If you own a PS3 you should be able to import it from any other country with no problem. Thats one of the benefits of the ps3 being region free.

Seeing the title I thought it was a petition by Fallout 1 & 2 fans trying to save Fallout 3 from Bethesda :D

Anyway, it's really sad how games get banned in Australia. Censorship and banning are DISGUSTING.

Yeah I thought that too! I just clicked the link to see what people were moaning about now, but this time I agree. We should be beyond the days of censorship now. Most people are well capable of making their own decisions in this day and age.

They should set up a "F*ck the Australian Government" petition instead.
