Square Enix's E3 Line Up - Where Is Final Fantasy XIII?

"So what does RPG giant Square Enix have in store for E3 2008? Why RPGs, of course. The publisher's lineup doesn't come as a surprise to anyone who's been following the company since last E3. Starting on the portable side of things they'll be showing the remake Chrono Trigger for the Nintendo DS, along with Dragon Quest: Chapters of the Chosen and the Final Fantasy IV remake, with the PSP represented by their two Star Ocean remakes First Departure and Second Evolution. In console land we'll get a look at Xbox 360 exclusives Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean: The Last Hope, as well as The Last Remnant for the 360 and PlayStation 3. Topping things off will be Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes, the company's new iPod game."

I am pleasently suprised Kotaku didn't bash the PS3. I suppose the power of FF surpasses Kotaku's blatant biased. I think we will see something E3 for FF, if not, it'll be along shortly.

It seems they just copied that list from the post we saw earlier and picked out the fact that we all did about FF not being on the list.

That just shows me one thing; We can all get jobs as Kotaku writers if we wanted.

Please show us something about FF. It's the reason I bought the system, now I have many reasons to keep it, but the initial reason was FF.

Doesn't the article specifically say these are announcements from Square Enix Ltd (Europe) and square enix USA. Surely any mention of FF XIII or FF Vs XIII would come directly from Square Enix Japan. Just a thought

Certainly Sony's Conference is a bigger stage. Square probably wants to showcase FFXIII to as many people as possible, which means showing it during Sony's conference would make the most sense.

Everyone knows that FF13 is coming to the PS3. The only necessary surprise would be to find out that the game was ready for an 08 release. Of course, if that were the case, I'd be shocked! Not holding my breath though....

Who cares about Final Fantasy? I certainly dont.

The games have no central narrative arc. They are more "episodes" labelled FF.

Sakaguchi-san has left, and is making other games.

Other than the brand-label, Final Fantasy is just another JRPG. nothign more, nothign less.

Square *CLEARLY* realizes that Sony has them locked on FF, and that with the game market clearly having chosen Xbox 360 for the HD consoles, SE simply cannot *risk* making a massive budget game for PS3 and then see it flop.

Last Remnant is the most important game SE is working on. Its a new IP (the same as FF is a "new IP" except for the brand "FF") -- SE is clearly showing *a lot* of support for MS & the Xbox 360.

Star Ocean and Infinite Undiscovery should tell you that; if you want to play RPGs, buy an Xbox 360.

Its as clear as that... or, you can wait and hope that FF isnt a big turd.

9.3 - For those disagreeing with me for no apparent reason...

I pointed him towards the open zone for several of his comments:

1. "Who cares about final fantasy?" - ummmmm....a whole crap ton of people care about final fantasy, it is easily one of the top selling and usually highly rated rpgs with each new game in the series

2. "the game market clearly having chosen Xbox 360 for the HD consoles" - once again, this is clear, i'm pretty sure it's not clear at all, unless your are pro-microsoft or anti-sony and looking to flame

3. "SE simply cannot *risk* making a massive budget game for PS3 and then see it flop" - okay, except SE has already put a massive budget into ffxiii for the ps3 (not to mention ffxii: versus); and I haven't seen any statements saying they are pulling the plug or canceling the game, so that pretty much makes your statement baseless

4. "Last Remnant is the most important game SE is working on" - yes it's so important that it is receiving about 1/10 of the buzz and fanfare that ffxiii is getting, unless of course you live in a world where you only have an xbox 360 and can't play ffxiii when it comes out, then last remnant would be the most important game for you.

Take your fanboyish xbot comments over to the open zone, where they are welcome.

EDIT: you people are hilarious, causing me to lose a bubble b/c i told someone making open zone comments in the gamer zone to take his business to the open zone, at least voice your opinion as to why you are disagreeing/taking bubbles away from me. If you haven noticed no jrpg has sold over a million on the 360 and unlike any fps it can't be cobbled together for a quick dollar.

RPGs need a lot of time and money put into them to be any good so if they want to make money they need to make over a million. As the PS3 hasn't had any jrpgs this is still untested so best bet would be multiplatform to get to a million and we see exclusive 360 jrpgs coming to the PS3 already and SO4 will be too.

I was interested in Infinite Undiscovery until I heard "Innuendo Dive"

I was wondering the same thing, but I thought that Final Fantasy XIII had already been confirmed for E3 earlier.

But, you never know, FFXIII could be the surprise because they've already released this confirmed list of games and then when you think that they are done at E3, they pull out FFXIII and jaws will be dropping.

But, if FFXIII doesn't make it to E3, it will probably be at the Tokyo Game Show later this year, so there's no worries here.

How would FF13 showing up at E3 be a huge surprise? An E3 surprise to me would be a game or announcement that no one new about. Whether it happens or not, there was an expectation of FF13 being at E3. We've known about FF being in production for the PS3 for a while now. Even if it just happened to pop up, I'd look at it as more of a welcome addition than a surprise. But that's just how I feel about it.

Anybody still remember there is an event call DKΣ3713 on Auguest 2nd and 3rd for FFXIIIs and Kingdom Heart DS and PSP?
I believe Square-Enix will not show much more detail for FFXIII series on E3 until next month

FF is going to make a surprize showing due to it being a multi platform game now. SE will announce FF13 as being for the 360 at E3.

SE is sharing MSFT's day at E3 so it is more comfortable vs announcing this news with Sony's media coverage

FFXIII isn't going to go to the 360. Microsoft is PAYING for these games. What game has sold so well on the 360 to warrant them screwing over Sony?

Final Fantasy XIII and Versus are the BIGGEST games, other than KH, Square has. Microsoft is absolutely dead in Japan and this is their plan to gain some ground in that region.

And anyone who actually thinks Star Ocean, which is having two games released on the PSP, is going to stay a 360 exclusive then you're on crack. Japan HATES the 360, the 360 is outsold in almost every region. Why send your IP's to die on a dying console especially when the conosle never liked RPG'S in the first place?

the reason why the games on the xbox are being shown firstis because ms made a deal with tri-ace a yr prior to sonys ps3 release which means they had more time to work with the titles and there ready to be shown.
