IGN PlayStation's Most Anticipated Games of E3 2008

With less than two weeks to go, E3 is nearly upon us. Though it might not be the neon-lit, thumping bass-driven, boob-fueled spectacle of years past, the videogames industry's premiere event is still the place for first- and third-party announcements. This year, despite the diminutive size of the event, looks primed to be a major source of software reveals, surprise announcements and a one-stop showcase for what's to come in the next few months and into the new year.

With this in mind, your trusty buddies at IGN PlayStation sat down and had a little pow-wow to decide what we're looking forward to most, be it already announced titles, could-be unveilings and, we hope, the source of more than a few industry-shaking declarations. So pull up a chair, grab some popcorn, and join us for a tour of what's to come as we roll into the 2008 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Gamesblow has the orange little snorkle guy as his avatar on The Playstation Blog. He sounds just like you man. I have never read one post other than yours and gamesblow refering to the Dylan from Infamous as "carrot top". That made the red lights go off to me. You also are the only two who complained about how he looks in detail on more than one occasion. I don't know man.... Go to the Infamous article on PS Blog. Gamesblow is all over that post. And how do you know two gamesblow's?

Eagle I am all too familiar with Gamesblow and Games blow. Gamesblow "the real one" was a staple on Neo-gaf for a bit of time when he would go make predictions or others would post his junk on the site.

Games blow is the one I met on Gamefaqs and the Official Forums. I didn't know he was on the blog until about 4 weeks ago, as I don't go there much. I am in that blog and I actually agreed with Games blow if you look up the page a bit. < I didn't even wanna reveal that much actually.

Trust me, I am not either of the two. I am familiar with both and interact with the fake one from time to time, but that is about as close as I come to being either of them.

I'm not going to argue with you or anyone else on it any longer. If you want to go around saying I am him, fine. I know I'm not and others do as well. Actually, others here have said who I was a time or two to be honest with you.

But you seem to like to make people look dumb for talking straight with you. Then you flip the script and act like a totally different personality. That is YOUR FAULT. You have to STOP or choose one personality.

The guy who's name starts with a G used to do the same thing. That is the reason why people think your him. It was this strange pull and push thing he had with Sony. Every other company could get away with murder. But you are Silogon to me now. :)

Resistance 2, Killzone 2, FFXIII, Bioshock, and LBP. Socom is still up in the air for me. by the way Did you guys know that Warhawk is getting it's patch for Trophies this week, once 2.4 comes back on. I simply cant wait. and once uncharted gets it it's time for me just replay everything. and i'll do it on hard and then on crushing. i simply cant wait. i haven't even gotten my 2.4 yet because Son took it down so soon.

this is what you get when you have over 23 studios working on projects exclusively for your company (19 first party, and 4 second party). Sony learned their lesson about relying solely on third party devs during the Playstation ONE era.

contrast this to IGN's 360 list, which listed a BUNCH of third party titles and they left some titles out anyway:

the point i'm trying to make is that if anyone has been relying on 3rd party support, it's Microsoft this generation.

i mean, who paid for exclusive DLC for GTAIV?
who paid to have Bully ported to their console?
who paid to have Tales of Vesperia, and Star Ocean 4 as timed exclusives?
who relied on 3rd party fair like Gears of War, Mass Effect, and Bioshock to make their console relevant before the competition got out and could get a foothold?

it certainly wasn't Sony, was it?

personally, i think it's good business, but it still is what it is. before you start slinging mud Sony's way (and there's plenty of mud to sling, to be sure), you have to take a look at what the other guys are doing and have done also.

personally, i'm looking forward to what the PS3 and 360 both have to offer, though i'm admittedly more exciting about the PS3's lineup. based off of the fact that i've been playing Playstation titles since the beginning, and most of my favorite franchises are exclusive to that consoles (ie, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet, God of War, War of the Monsters, etc).

i'm interested in Infinite Undiscovery (i'm an RPG nut), and me and my fiance can't wait to finally get Fable 2 (i'm one of the few folks out there that appreciated the first one, despite Peter Molyneux's epic hyperbole concerning the title), and i'm still picking up Too Human, despite the presses constant misgivings about it (what can i say, i like the concept, and Silicon Knights has talent).

you Silo, on the other hand, can't give credit when it's due, and can't admit a good lineup when it's clearly evident.

i think the PS3 and the 360 both have some damn good games hitting their consoles, both multi-platform and exclusives, but i think the PS3 edges it out in the quantity/quality ratio for the foreseeable future.

i mean, it's just hard for me to think that Microsoft has many first party surprises in store for us at E3, simply because they only have about 9 or less first party studios working on titles. everything from XBLA titles, to full blown DVD games. the surprises at E3 for MS will be mostly from 3rd parties, assuming there will be any surprises at all.

on the other hand, Sony has 23 studios working on titles, most of which haven't even been announced yet, and most of the studios are working on more than one title (ie, Insomniac working on Resistance 2 and the next Ratchet title).

like i've been saying for a LONG time now, MS needs to step it up, and instead of spending all those millions on courting 3rd party devs, they should start opening up more internal dev studios to create some REAL exclusives, instead of simply timed ones.

Xbox multiplatforms...
I see RE5, Dead Space, and Fallout 3, thats 3/10 and that isnt 90% either.

If viewers were nitpicky about exclusitivity, Star Ocean 4 will be ported to PS3 in due time since there was PSP trailer previews on it.
That would result in Xbox 360 with 4 multiplatform on IGN's wishlist making both "90%."

I have to stress the #10's from both list were dissapointing when there is other games that fell under radar. Furhermore, an arcade title listed as a full fledged wish list game results in a lack of good titles in my personal opinion. I expected to see Too Human instead to be honest. Even a Bioshock port with the extra content was a better selection than an arcade title.

Last but not least, Fallout 3 was the most anticipated game for 360 as it was #2 on the PS3 list.

I'm still hoping that Team ICO will be at E3 to reveal thier next PS3 project, and if they aren't at E3, hopefully they'll be at the Tokyo Game Show to show of their next masterpiece.

Also, we can't forget about that "Secret PS3 game" and I think that it's supposed to make a showing at E3 too.

And then that last thing that I'm really hoping for is Naughty Dog to announce their next PS3 project. They've had 6-7 months since Uncharted's release to decide what they'll do next and I'm pretty sure that by now they've got some idea of what they want to do... they probably already knew what game they wanted to do next even before Uncharted was released, but either way, E3 will be the perfect time to reveal it. It might obviously be Uncharted 2, but I was a big Jak and Daxter fan and loved the Jak and Daxter series and I wouldn't mind a Jak and Daxter PS3 game that used the Uncharted Game engine. There's been rumors of Jak and Daxter The Lost Frontier and it might just come to reality in a couple of weeks at E3.

To not mention SOCOM is just... well insane.... again i say go check the playstation socom forums... the anticipation is insane... many people are waiting to upgrade to a ps3 when socom comes out..

also heavy rain... i myself just learned about indigo prophecy that came out for ps2 and xbox this year.. and fell in love with it at first play... and am excited about heavy rain.. not to mention that it sony another game that is different from the pack... ...

i would also like to see a brief mention about "Linger In Shadows"

Fallout 3 is gonna own, resistance 2 i have my doubts. Fall of Man wasn't terribly exciting.

Sony has more studios then microsoft, true but what good are they if they release titles the quality of lair. Im looking forward to everything e3 has to offer for both camps.

Nothing is wrong with multiplatform titles, Grand Theft Auto IV and Call of Duty 4 are two of the best games this generation.

I garantee you if Gears of War was announced for ps3, playstation only owners would be happy just like they are to hear about bioshock finnaly making an appearance on their system of choice.

Fanboys need to die, third party exclusives are a dying breed. First parties do need to step up but the quality of games from Nintendo, Microsoft and SONY are pretty evenly split. But So far i have to say Microsoft has the edge for publishing original IP's and turning them into a success.

SEGA had 12-13 developer studios i think but still made alot of terrible games as well.

The stuff about SONY not buying anything, i bet it is lies.

Every revolves around some kind of giving or taking money, it is business.

Figboy, What about the playstation 1 and 2? Did you forget? They relied on franchises like Square Enix Final Fantasy, Konami's Metal Gear Solid, Capcom's Resident Evil 2. Rockstar's grand theft auto 3, SONY got to where they are in the first place among the gaming world because of marketing and relationships with third party developers. Don't even try to deny it.
Not even Nintendo(outside the wii) can claim to having big success without third parties as much as they like.

Square soft and Enix tell you anything?

Squaresoft and EA wasn't a force to be reckoned with on the playstation's and old nintendo's?

All im saying is don't act like Exclusive agreements, timely or permanent haven't been important and don't affect how one gets a foothold in this industry.

there are just too many but they could only pick ten to be fair to the competition. IGN has to be balance. They can't list 20 for PS3 and only a handful for others.
