PSN boss disses Xbox Live's interface, game de-listing

Joystiq.com writes "No sooner does Sony (briefly) improve the PS3 user interface with the much-talked-about version 2.4 firmware update, than some at the company feel cocky enough to start badmouthing the competition's interface. Speaking to Next-Gen, PlayStation Network Director of Operations Eric Lempel took the bait in taking a few moments to compare Sony's redesigned PlayStation Store to Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace."

If you read the full article, Lempel simply says that the new layout of the PS store is much neater and better displayed than the xbox live market place, which personally I have to agree with, i'm not saying the marketplace is bad, but the newly designed PS Store is superb.

however Joystiq have titled this as if he is making a direct attack at xbox live as a whole.

than Live was. PSN is improving at a faster rate. PSN will have access to Sony's movies, music, television exclusively...and oh yeah..it's free.

By this time next year we'll all be comparing trohpies across a multitude of games, the video store will be thriving, more classic PS1 and PS2 games, and who knows what else.

Cost of LIve membership since 360 launch: almost 200 bucks (ouch)

Cost of PSN account since launch: 0

And I didn't even mention Home cuz most of you seem convinced you'll hate it.

Theres also mod support and potential for larger more elaborate games for download on PSN like (Warhawk/GT5P). Cosmetically PSN looks great since its update too. To many ads on XBL too.

XBL does have everything in a tight package all good to go, though it does have its limitations. Limits are mostly due to MS wanting to milk its customers for all they can.

The 360 has access to thousands of movies, videos and tv shows right now. Access to these items is free, and while most of them cost to watch some of the movies/shows are free.

I have both systems and I have to say hands down 360 is the best in reguards to interface and content. I was at work though while they released/pulled 2.40 so I don't have the newest update to PSN.

Also I want to see how the PSN handles its content when they reach the point of having as much content as Live has right now.

If they knew anything about information design they would have designed PSN differently. The menu levels are far too many and much too broad. It's very easy to lose yourself and can be hazardous trying to find what you are looking for. Anyone who knows something about information achitecture could tell you that the blade design for the 360's interface is superior in terms of structure, usability and navigation.

Well, he didn't really "diss" the Xbox Live interface, he just stated how he felt about the Xbox Live interface compared to the PSN Interface. It's not like he said, "The Xbox 360's Interface is garbage" or something. I don't have a problem with XBL Marketplace. I think its time for an update however. The original PSN store was a launch solution. It got the content out there for the first year+ of the PS3. It needed a scalable solution which is what we see in the current PSN store. This is what I feel Microsoft needs to do with XBL MP.

Besides, I didn't always hate MS. At one point, I wanted an Xbox instead of a Gamecube! Then they started s@#ting from their mouth and their game lineup wasn't that great, either (aside from Halo, of course). Also, they dropped the Xbox after 3 years! (late '01 to early '05) What does that tell you about how much they care about the gamers?
