Yakuza 3 Announced (No, Not Again, A New Yakuza 3)

In the latest issue of Famitsu, it was announced that SEGA's toasted Toshihiro Nagoshi has been working on Ryu ga Gotoku 3 (Yakuza 3). This isn't to be confused with Edo-era PS3 exclusive Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan!, which is actually the third Yakuza game in the franchise, but not actually Yakuza 3. Confused? According to the article, Kenzan! was a spin-off, and this newly announced game is actually the third one in the series, m'kay. Work began on the game commenced after development on Kenzan! finished, and the story picks up where Yakuza 2 left off. Well, that makes sense at least.

According to Neogaf post the game have a release date set for spring Spring 2009 and it's exclusive for PS3.

Thank you, but I read the article. I just mean in general, it's a rather confusing advertising decision.

Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan, should of been labeled as a spin off since day one.

Well it's good everyone is not confused ... except me!

Is Kenzan the one released in Nippon with the old samurai'esque period? And is this new one going to be based on modern times?

And are we ever going to get any of them?

EDIT: And when I say "we" I mean US/Europe, I don't care where just somewhere english speaking so I can import it.

Yes, Kenzan! is the one set in feudal Japan. It is not Yakuza 3, it's a separate game, although it's the third game in the franchise. This one, on the other hand, will be the fourth game in the franchise and is the "real" sequel to Yakuza 2, hence Yakuza 3.

If they make a sequel to Kenzan! it will probably be called Kenzan! 2.

Kenzan is Awesome!

Anyone who hasnt made a japanese PSN account, and hasnt downloaded the 2 demos is missing out, i found it really fun even though i could not read anything, but the gameplay is great.

i played the demo off the JPN store. my first time playing the franchise. it was weird. probably because everything is in japanese and i don't understand it.

maybe this official sequel will appeal to me better.
