[Update] PS3 Trophies will have sound effect

videogamer: Just like Xbox 360's Achievement unlocked sound, PS3 gamers will get a Trophy earned jingle.

When the PS3 'Firmware v2.40 FAQ' went live there was a little disappointment amongst PS3 gamers when they learned the PS3's answer to Achievements, Trophies, would not be announced in-game with a sound effect.

Well, things have now changed. According to Sony Computer Entertainment's Jeff Rubenstein there will be sound.

Not sure if your being sarcastic?

I have submitted this as originally (last night) the Playstation Blog said that there currently would be no noise when Trophies are unlocked. I know this disappointed a lot of people, so I submitted this in the hopes of quenching those disappointments.

It may not be "big time" news but to someone, this is good news and warrants its posting.

I think it's good news. I saw that post and didn't really mind so much, but it's a nice bonus. I just wonder if they are gonna have any program that enables you to change that sound to a, let's say, 5 second sample clip of your choosing? I only say this because, so far, they have been great at letting us customize our systems.

I'd be jaded too if I paid for something the past few years that the otherside has been getting for free. All the had was "Live is better cuz of custom soundtracks and all the in-game dashboard access."

Actually Lifendz it's more like you PS3 folks finally get what 360 owners have been enjoying for free for the last 2.5 years. All these features you are getting do not require a GOLD paid account on the Xbox 360.

There are many more feature advantages to XBL than just these so maybe Sony will get them completely copied by 09.

A custom sound is the way to do it! Every time you get a trophy it could play a short extract of the Final Fantasy victory tune.

5 - Does anyone...
know what time 2.4 will be released? Will it be midnight-Japan time, as in 2:15 from now? I know that Jeff said on the blog that FW updates have a simultaneous world release, and engadget implied that it was being released at midnight in Japan.

The sounds is a nice effect, btw. I'd like to know when I've gotten my trophy without having to constantly look at the top right corner of the screen:)

I was thinking the same thing, but I haven't heard anything. I sort of doubt it will happen though. On a side note, I agree about the sound thing for the trophies, I am glad Sony added that in.

7 - If anything...
Sony might let us choose are chime when getting a trophy because Sony is more into user created content. You can even customize the Cross Media Bar so why not.

What I would really love is if you can take it off, I don't want something to keep making noise after each level. I don't mind a notice but hopefully the sound can be turned off. That's the thing with my XBOX 360 when first playing the game you hear it constantly.

So you don't see/hear the achievements that people seem to hate, despite now loving trophies.

It's gratifying to see a permanent reward and visible award for your efforts, imho.

You know how in Custom themes, they also influence the sound when you scroll across the xmb? Like for instance, I have a Pixel Junk Monsters one and the sound it makes as I scroll is similar to whats in the game when either you scroll or collect gold. If the trophy announcement had a similar sound to that of your xmb, or maybe even one you upload yourself from the pc, that right there would keep me happy.

It would be good if we were able to choose the sound that is played, (Hey, why not Queen's 'We are the Champions'!).

Also it would be interesting if Sony could give developers the opportunity to make it unique to the game you play, and perhaps each individual trophy.

If there arn't these options available I would then hope that there were four different sounds. (One for each of bronze, silver, gold and platinum)

Hey, I know I'm nitpicking but at least we can finally resort to it, rather than beg for major changes.
