True, but I hope they (Motherh/E0N) will still maintain a presence on the PSU forums though as I perfere those forums even with the revamped site's forums. Either way, I'll go where I have to. ;)

Anyway, for anyone interested, the Killzone timeline is a nice new addition, anyone interested I recommend they check it out.

have a really bad feeling that this might be a flop?? Not bashing, or hating, but this much hype would be hard for ANY game to live up to....just saying

I agree i can see the reviewers bashing the game for no reason...like not liking the start menu or something stupid just to dock points.

I see Flop Writting all over this game, they are Concentrating more on The graphics

Resistance 2 on the other hand, is shaping up to be one of the best if not the best FPS ever

The gameplay looks shallow, it's basically a PS3 tech demo.

It isn't, none of them are. FPS is an FPS.

At least Resistance had an interesting story.

I have a feeling it may be a flop in the eyes of the industry, but I think it will meet my expectations. I am only expecting a decent shooter with great graphics and physics. I am sure it will be fun to play, but I might not play through it more than a couple of times. If they surpass that then great, but I won't get my hopes up.

2.7 - We've
seen one level and you guys are branding this a flop. First it was, "can the meet they graphic bar they set." Once they did that now its, "the gameplay looks bland."

After one level, I can tell this game looks similar to COD4 with its set pieces but takes that one step further with a cover system that's not being done with FPS. If the game shows up with relatively decent AI, its going to be intense and immersive.

We haven't seen anything regarding an online. We haven't seen any of the other levels. We know the weather comes into play, but haven't seen how. We think there's going to be a coop as well.

So again ... how are you all branding this as a flop when really all we know about the game is that it looks phenomenal.

2.8 - With how petty some reviewers have been towards the PS3's software
I can see a future where some idiot who wants attention will bash the most minute detail, like saying the Killzone 2 game case smells funny or something.

Or possibly bashing the game because you can die too easily (gamers who suck at FPS usually do complain about that). Or because the bosses aren't big enough.

Or maybe some geeks will even complain that Killzone 2 isn't the greatest thing in the world because it can't get them laid. "Oh yeah, if its so great, why can't I get a girl with this game??? Huh??? If its such a visual masterpiece why doesn't it reflect some of those impeccable graphics onto me and make me look more attractive"

I know all that sounds ridiculous, but with how biased some people are towards the PS3, its not far-fetched.

you know why the game is going to flop, because the industry/media already made up their minds. They won't give the game a bloody chance. As soon as they saw that Sony proved all them haters wrong that though they would never achieve the kind of visual shown in the tech demo back then, the hater got all defensive and started looking for something else to downplay the game. The gaming media can't even give credit where credit is do.

Yeah...everything on the PS3 has to be so "innovative" while things on every other system can be recycled and called the best game of all time. PS3 is put on such high-standards and I actually blame the KZ2 trailer for that. Everyone is just hating, but from what I've seen this is gonna be a great FPS shooter...it'll be an improvement from the first thats for sure and I have faith in it since I really enjoyed Liberation on the PSP. For now we can all say the game is visually stunning since people are still calling some of the in-game screens and live gameplay with people holding the controllers in their hands "fake"...that means we're on the right track :)

2.12 - Flop?
No! Get picked apart on every single tiny aspect that is not perfect? Oh yes! I expect reviews of this game to run the gamut, from 6/10 and up. This game and its hype is its own best and worst enemy. I wish people would look at an individual game for what that game is rather than comparing it to everything else and its brother. Why does each successive game have to "out-do" the last? Why not take the game at face value and enjoy? Gamers have become a very jaded bunch, in general.

So, I see you have a minor problem with the possibility of reviewers being biased aginst Killzone in the future. PM me with the exact details of what you want (needed for all the legal mumbo jumbo) and we can put together a nice little contract.

You hit the proverbial nail on the head Blademask, though some people might disagree with you on Bioshock (I haven't played it yet to form an opinion but I'm looking forward to it)

Also, why the hell are people comparing a third person shooter (Gears) with an FPS (Resistance). I never understood that, damn why not compare Ninja Gaiden with Soul Calibur lol

I don't buy fps unless they are VERY different in at least presentation and execution. COD4 is my bread and butter FPS (though I haven't touched the online aspect at all). I like Resistance because of it's story, the nutty 40 mutiplayer online mode and mainly because of it's crazy ass weapons! I love The Darkness story, atmosphere and powers you get. Those are the only fps's I have bought this generation as the rest just don't seem different enough to me.

9.2 - Couldn't agree more...
Here's the list of innovations I witnessed in 15 years of playing FPS:

1993: I play my first FPS - Wolfenstein 3D
....
.... Playing hundreds of FPS games...
....
2002: Halo - Vehicles are added.
...
... Playing dozens of FPS games...
...
2005: Call of Duty2 - Health Bar has been replaced by recovery system.
....
.... At some point cover system gets added to some games....
....

That's about all I've seen change in these games. Let me know if I missed anything major.

9.3 - I agree with you on this one
Innovation is a tricky thing. Too much and the whole thing gets convoluted, too little and you get slammed by every one and the media. The most important thing is to have a good (or adequate, anyway) story and a feeling of involvement with the action on screen. Let's face it, there isn't much more you can do with the FPS genre. It is a relatively simplistic field.

sometimes a true gamer don't expect a game to be innovative, they expect the game to be FUN, if a game is innovative then is awesome but not necessarily fun.

The delay worries me. The official line is that there's too many shooters in the holiday timeframe. If Sony really believed in this game they'd delay RFOM2 and release KZ2. This thing has been in development for too long. The marketing has been horribly managed.

10.1 - but you seem to forget
that resistance fall of men is developed by insomniac which is an independent studio,,,so sony cannot ask them to delay their game for KZ2,,,Sony can delay their own FPS killzone 2.

That's why insomniac loves sony this much,,,they get treated like a first party with the dev support and info sharing with other sony first part developers, but at the same time they are independent like a third party.so they can do whatever they like.

13 - those people asking
"OMFG!!Where's teh innovation and stuffz??!!" to me, are being a little silly.

there are two fundamental things about FPS games:

1) The game must always be in first person (though, for some reason, it's completely acceptable to move to third person when piloting vehicles).

2) You point at something, and SHOOT IT.

now, if you change those two fundamentals about the FPS genre, it ceases to be an FPS, doesn't it?

because the title must be seen from the first person perspective, that limits what the presentation of the game can be like, since, for the most part, events must unfold from that first person perspective.

if you remove the guns from a first person shooter, it's no longer a first person shooter, but how will you fight beyond melee and magic spells (ie, Oblivion)? depending on the genre of FPS, magic is out, and melee will get boring, since any excessive, complicated move set will result in spastic camera swinging while the player performs the moves (which is why you don't see any FPS titles with move sets like God of War or Ninja Gaiden), and the player will get nauseous (also see; Mirror's Edge, which looks cool, but man oh man does that trailer make me feel sick).

because of those limitations, the genre has a hard time being innovative, and the main areas in which an FPS CAN innovate is in technology.

Half Life, Half Life 2, Doom, Unreal, etc, were praised for more than just their great gameplay, but because they did things with the technology that no other FPS title had done at the time.

i remember watching, in awe, the tech demos of the Half Life 2 engine years ago, and being amazed at the physics, textures, and animations of the systems. how Valve applied those technological innovations into a excellent game is also worthy of praise.

to expect an FPS to somehow innovate beyond technology in the gameplay department is an unrealistic expectation because it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to do without changing it from FPS.

you can't do crazy camera angles, because the game must be seen from an FPS perspective unless during cutscenes where the dev wants to show the character model off. and, judging from comments i've read on this site, cutscenes are from the devil anyway (or maybe that's only when it applies to Metal Gear Solid, or any other PS3 title that features cutscenes. and gameplay. or for the simple fact that a PS3 game exists in general, but i digress), so thats out.

you can go all out with crazy weapons and powers (Resistance and Oblivion, respectively), but that can be a risk if your game is a realistic, gritty, war game, like, oh, about 99.9% of the FPS titles released are.

personally, i'd love to see a First Person Survival Horror game set in a sandbox environment. or a First Person puzzle game (creatively beautiful like Ico, but set in First Person instead of third). something that does things we haven't seen yet with the genre. that's the only place you'll find new ideas, but the more we continue to buy games like Conflict: Generic FPS - i mean, "Denied Ops" (the only thing that got denied was Eidos getting my money for that game), Turok, and Blacksite, the more devs will continue to churn those generic FPS titles out.

then, due to over-saturation of the genre, creative developers like Infinity Ward, Insomniac, and Guerrilla Games (Killzone was flawed, but i'm enjoying it. Killzone: Liberation was really, really good, and convinced me that the world and characters of Killzone were viable) are under-appreciated when they do a great job of creating an FPS.

so far, the hands on previews of Killzone 2, even by the most ardent Killzone and PS3 critics, have been positive. in an FPS title, the only real stipulation is that the tech supports the gameplay. most of our classic FPS franchises have that (it's part of the reason why the original Killzone fell short; the PS2, at the time the game was released, just couldn't handle the game they WANTED to make. the PS3 is more than enough power, i think, to bring GG's ambitions to fruition).

bottom line, stop expecting GTA3-like revolutions in game design from every game releasing this generation. it's an unrealistic expectation. if Killzone 2, or any other game out their piques your interest, give it a try, but don't expect the earth to shake.

for example, from what i've seen, Fable 2 looks like the original Fable in HD. even the animations look like they were ripped from the original. even so, it's one of the games i'm anticipating the most this year for my 360, and i'm picking it up day one. why? because i LIKED the original Fable, i thought the game was fun, and the stuff they're doing with the new one is the stuff they WANTED to do in Fable, but couldn't, due to technological and time constraints.

the same can be said about Killzone and Killzone 2. and being an FPS, i don't expect any ground-breaking gameplay improvements, but i can definitely be excited by what the game is doing on a technological level. and if the game is as enjoyable as Killzone: Liberation to me, then that's great. for the record, it looks infinitely more intense and frantic. and i can't ask for more than that in a war-themed FPS.

14 - As long as there is a demo
and the demo is very good, I am buying this game.
I think the demo is going to be over 2gb because 1 level is already 2gb. I don't think Sony will let this game flop. I'm sure they'll spend more money and delay it some more if they have to because every 360 fanboy is waiting for another Lair and Haze.

hes comparing it graphically. and seriously GeoW cant compare to KZ2 in the graphics department. the gap is that Huge, With KZ2 being the graphically superior title.

other than that, KZ2 is an FPS and GeoW2 is a 3rd Person shooter, they both have their different mechanics.
