I reckon if you've got it you'll use it of course...and also it'll have that wii effect where #some# will want to know what the big deal is...personally can't see what it'll hold onto by the end of next year...how will they keep on improving it in the ten year plan...? I mean what more could they add. i guess they could host real MMRPg games or something...

Forget games ... I think Home will be the biggest thing coming to Playstation 3.

Personally, I'm not bothered. I'm all about games and don't give a crap about social networking, unless it's me and a bunch of mates shooting the hell out of some dudes on Modern Warfare (although it's usually me getting my a$$ handed to me), but Home is going to be the new facebook / myspace.
(I realise this isn't the only aspect of Home...)

This will attract the public and all the casuals, you wait and see.
And sony will make a bucket from virtual advertising space.

On the positive side, with the increased popularity of Playstation will come increased Developer support. Let's just hope we get more experiences like MGS4 and less shovelware.

Always too much like second life for my liking until I heard:

Earning 3D trophies and going to virtual game expositions = Win.

It's also a more natural way of going throguh a menu if you ask me. I wish the avatars were not humanoids though, I wish everyone was bouncing balls. It would seem less gimmicky then, and cut down on the polys.

i'm in the beta and i can tell you that the game launching feature is very smooth and simple to use.

you just select game launching from the psp menu, select what game you want to launch, how many players you want in the game, and how soon you want it to start. that's it

"Those are some nice apples you got there, but ima buy a car instead."

I think this program will revolutionize how we get together and interact before and after matches with our online friends.

It's not a far stretch from SOE's baby EQ in a sense that I used to get on just to talk to my friends, maybe we'd camp a mob while we were talking, but we just got on to talk sometimes. If they come out with the MMO's they are talking about right now, it will be invaluable to boost the sales of those games. It's a great idea IMO and I can't wait.

6.1 - Agreed.
Being in the beta myself for well over a year now, I can say you are exactly right. If your PS3 is turned on, you might as well be in Home, especially since you can just access the XMB if you need anything extra.

It is truly amazing to have been able to watch it evolve into what it is now, and make no mistake, it will continue to evolve even after release.

It will always be a beta, in the sense that they will always be listening to the community on what we want, what we don't want, etc.

i agree. i've been in the beta for over a year also, and i'm impresses to see how much it has improved over time. at first i wasn't to pleased with the features it offered. but they are definately doing alot to improve the service.

people say they wish they were in it a year ago, but if they were, they would've dogged the sh!t out of it. now i think it's coming to the point were people will enjoy what it has to offer.

and i just noticed there's an update for it now.

11 - I wish...
Sony would stop talking about Home so much and let the anticipation sort of slow down before ramping it all back up in November/December so we can get excited about something imminent, not something far into the future. I wish for something like the excitement surrounding 2.4 right now. They told us about it months ago, but now they are hyping it up ridiculously as we get closer to the actual drop date.
Shut this user up Let user speak

actually, I have to disagree becuase, Sony hasn't said ANYTHING about 2.4 in the past month. Really. All that hype is not from them, its from the "Leaks".

12 - I do believe it will change the way we think about gaming..
It will have a HUGE impact on the Social and Community aspect of finding other people who enjoy what you enjoy.

I also think it needs to get polished up asap, features need to be added (Gamer-centric) and they need to release it. As Reploid24 said, "How time can lessen the excitement." and to a point he is defeintly right. Still it doesn't mean I won't use home, infact i'll most likely use it any time the ps3 is on, JUSt because.... WHY NOT! lol. If i can make online friends like i made wayyyy backin the days of Ultima Online, then it will be a priceless addition.

I think HOME is SONY's Forward Thinking at its best, I also think they underestimated the difficulty of getting it right. But They will deliver. Sony always does.

13 - I think this is a great app...
I cant wait to see what gets done with this... there is so many options for it ... I can't wait...

Also the rumor that MS is making or wanting something similar is great news... Because the more competition between sony and ms the better for gamers on both sides of the fence...

Shut this user up Let user speak
S3NTRY - 543 days 9 hours ago
14.1 - This FY.
How many times do they have to say it. XD

When you think about it, they announced it in March of 07, now it is a year and 3 months from then. We haven't really waited THAT long when you think about it. Most games announce about a year, sometimes even more, before the game launches.

If Home comes in November this year, it will have been exactly a year and a half since it was announced. Not too shabby.

14.2 - ok ok ok
Maybe i exaggerated a little bit( fall of 2009 seems more realistic lol) but really, Sony has put so much hype in it, that every time it gets close to launch, Sony pulls the plug on release and on our hearts. That in common sense only angers us to a point where it doesnt matter if it comes out or not. My life was great before it and its great now.. Fall of 2011!!

15 - Seriously
does anyone care about this pipe dream anymore?

I mean who doesn't know by now that home was just an attempt to get attention by Sony, you can't really expect it to be worth crap when it comes out in 2013, not if it's free.

Maybe you shoudl change your screen name to Mr. Marble since it sounds like you lost most of them judging by your comment. How is this a pipe dream? It is in the works and is very much real. Besides, what is wrong with dreaming? If developers and companies didn't dream big where would the innovation be? We would have the same uninspired programs and games over and over again and the industry, or any industry for that matter would die or be stagnant.

If that ever happened I am sure people like you would be complaining about companies not dreaming big enough!

Be a gamer and stop being a hater!

BTW hope to see all of the PS3 crowd from N4g there when it launches!!!

The best thing they could do is the home to game transition. Without that Home would've sucked. I like the sims-like customization of your house that will be a good time killer.

17 - I'm surprised by how far this application has come.
And the way it loads new environments is both extremely clever AND visually appealing. The menus actually have some cute animation, and I love the mannerisms and nuances that they've added to the characters.

Can't wait to use it this Fall. =D

21 - mmmh
Not really sure how much I'll use it, I'm more interested on the features regarding online MP...althouhg I'm looking forward to watch E3 shows live or any other event, or watch a demo/trailer/movie with my friends, or maybe stream music, etc, etc...there are some features for everybody...I don't criticize the rest of the features I'll probably never use because:

1. It's free so I choose whatever and whenever I want to use it without feeling SONY is getting my money for something I don't use

2. This will add one more category to the variation you'll find on the PS3, the key of a great gaming platform is to offer something for everybody

3. All those micro-transaction and ads will keep PSN cost free, I'm planning myself to buy stuff once in a while, it will feel good to know that by doing that I'm helping to keep the service for free for others than might not have a credit card or the cash, like kids.

22 - Good video
It had a catchy tune and the editing made things seem a lot smoother than I bet they are at this point. Still, I have faith that Sony will be able to improve the load times and stuff until things become more seamless.

I truly think this app is going to turn out to be an incredible boon for the PS3 and for the gaming community at large. At first I really didn't think it was going to be THAT big a deal, a fun novelty, but nothing as all consuming as I'm starting to think it's going to be. What really changed my mind is when I read (can't find the article) that Sony was considering putting online poker (or other gambling) as an option and it made me realize how big of a digital marketplace Home could become. I'm sure virtual stores will begin to pop up everywhere and various clans and groups will evolve around specific games and even specific hobbies. If the PS3 does indeed last 10 years I can see Home evolving into a juggernaut.

And, by the way, please just expect a butt load of advertising. It will be there. For sure. So just expect it.

24 - It's funny how people complain
Some try to say this is overhyped. We watch a video from a conference and now SONY is overhyping. SONY is trying to build this up in the business community. The disadvantage of something free is they need to make money in some respect. That can only come with advertising. Now they need to get said community up on this to feel their advertising dollars should be put into HOME.

I am in the Beta also and I am less than impressed so far. I think it's funny you have two guys talking it up so much and whenever I participate in the HOME environment I am the only one there. Yesterday there were three others participating and yet they had Z's above their character. The only thing that will make this successful is community involvement. If they don't have attractions to keep peoples attention for more than a few minutes most people aren't going to bother with HOME. It takes more than pool tables and having your own Summer Home to make it fun.
