Why the PlayStation Network was offline + Home 0.9.4 screenshots

The dutch website PS3-Sense just posted some screenshots of the new PlayStation Home 0.9.4. They tell us that the maintenance of the PlayStation Network was due to some changes within the Home code (the new client is going live at July 3th). Because Home was consuming too much bandwidth they had to change some stuff within the PSN to let it be able to handle more users online. Check it out after the jump. Off course this is all still a rumour.

These little tweaks are why we won't see Home this year. I have a buddy in the beta and I can see it is not ready yet.

Edit to below:

I wanna clear something up. I don't know if it will come this year or not. I'm just saying based on what I have experienced and seen while on his system I just don't think it is as good as it needs to be.

then again so many options aren't available right now. Warhawks launching and all that. The uncharted Room. People. The stores aren't open to buy from.

I mean, when it goes live you're going to see a huge change I am sure of that. The things that make home, home just aren't up and running right now and that is why I feel it is not ready. Cause, well, they're not or they'd be right?

It looks good, though.

the open beta will still come this year I'm sure. They never actually said all the features would be available when we got our hands on it.

i would say sony should just release it and work on the kinks as time goes on. i just read an article on kotaku where the guy was saying home was totally empty. if home is empty release it so that new users can stress test it and find new bugs they can fix

thats because all people on HOME ignored Kotaku ..so Kotaku was alone and cant see anyone there..

I agree they should just let us in while it's unfinished but bandwidth problems do need to be fixed before they let a huge number of people in. as it'd would probably be a nightmare to run HOME with a low bandwidth.

You don't stress test a thing by releasing it. You do it by creating a scenario where you can simulate big user loads. Just releasing it would be bad, because it would probably not work very well, and Sony would have been bashed all over the internet (blogs, news-sites, forums and so on.

Test it first, release it if happy. If not, make changes and then test and then release if happy.

5 - HOME is looking great.
I read Kotaku too, he was complaining that no one was in there....DUH!

The guy wasn't talking or jumping into multiplayer games, or sharing media, etc....but was complaining how he was alone...DUH....

Kotaku sucks. :)

I think that he was lying about the whole thing, if you ask me. I think he just needed something to post, being a fill in for Crecente this week and all.

That's my take.

I've seen Home and played around in it for myself and what he says and what I've seen doesn't match up. The loads for one. It loads new areas, yes, but never more than 10 seconds and that is for the bulk hub and when it is filled with 20 to 30 people. Also he talks about the bowling game as being like GTA4. That couldn't be further from the truth. It isn't as deep as HVB but it's comparable.

I don't think he knows what he's talking about.

5.2 - @sologon...exactly
Your friends are what's going to be why Home is awesome. Hanging out, sharing media, playing games, and god only knows what else.

It looks very impressive (visually) using my set of eyes...lol

Thank you for your take on it. Just like every online arena, changes will be made often. :)

8.2 - HOME May Be Coming
I am in the BETA and right now all I can say is it's not interesting enough on it's own. Of course being able to personalize your Home space is nice but this is definately a social tool... I can see them opening up the Beta to get more feedback but right now they need to make sure everything is running perfectly before the public really gets to try it out. If they were to release the product without it being perfect then it would be like it is now with almost no one participating. Some of the improved features would be more social games, better stores, improved theatre, and a better space for live events.

10 - The new version of HOME comming July 3...fixes a lot of the issues in the current build...
Like the loading times and the spawing...this is now all comming knowledge...and by the time November 2008 rolls around...the open beta for home will be good...

Sony will release it...

They put on hold a few projects just to finish home into a open beta state..

Idk how true that is wouldnt just a patch do?? Why do they have to turn off psn just for home I doubt thats the case. I could understand if it was intergrated into the psn but it really isnt at least not of yet.

So basicly Home crashed the network, and people were shouting "scheduled maintenance!" when it realy was a crash. Come on those of you who shouted "scheduled maintenance!" stand up and state your name....:)

I can't see this being a free service forever.

Although I do hope I'm wrong.

It looks amazing!
