GTA movie is impossible, thanks to Ron Howard

That's ridiculous, there are plenty of movies with the same name from different times. I'm sure if a movie for GTA was green lighted the title of the screenplay wouldn't be the issue.

GTA movie will be uwe boll crap. There is nothing that happens in GTA that doesn't already happen in other movies. It will just be a regular movie about a hard guy who steals stuff and runs from cops...like we haven't seen that 100 times. You could slap GTA as the name for itallian job and it would tie in somehow. Also that random movie with tyrese called waist deep where he robs banks to save his kid could also be a GTA movie.

No story can be unique enough for a GTA movie

3 - This is stupid.
The 1977 movie was called Grand Theft Auto, and all RockStar and CO. have to do is call the movie the same name as the game GTA as in "GTA The Movie".

Simple as that, don't you think?

Wtf is thaT? Really. So demean him cause he got to the punch bowl nearly 25 years prior? Please. I hate video game media. It's always so biased and so flit.

How about, Rockstar isn't getting sued over the name rights because of "ROM HOWARD" how about that.

Right because I'm sure there has NEVER been a movie where people have ran around a city, blown it up and killed people, had a lot of cussing and mafia people in it? Oh crap, did I just describe almost every mafia movie ever made?

There is no such thing as a GTA movie. Instead, it was movies that inspired GTA, especially GTAIV where much of the story is a poor iteration of better mob/mafia movies out there.

So I guess in a more technical sense, what this story should have said, is that you'll never see a movie named "Grand Theft Auto", but there are plenty of movies that GTA takes inspiration from.

And I guess just to throw something really old school out there as a foundation of my story: Resevoir Dogs

Really, there's no need for a GTA movie, as the games typically serve as an homage and/or satire of various films.

But, it's not like they couldn't get away with simply calling the film "GTA" if they did decide to make a film.

EDIT: I shouldn't drink and post anymore, as it seems i've pretty much posted views already articulated earlier by others. For shame...

10 - don't be fooled.....
it's not the name that stop this project... there are plenty of ways around it... "Grand Theft the movie", "Liberty City", "The life and times of Niko Belic"... Seriously the name is so minor....

The real problem is in the legal agreement they signed not to make a movie... They would have to get the Movie people who made Grand theft auto to ok the project. (not likely to ever happen, since it's a bunch of lawyers who will talk to each other instead of Rockstar and Ron Howard - the guy who made Grand Theft Auto -the movie with the same name as the game.)

I guess we have a better chance of Halo the movie getting made then ever seeing a GTA IV movie...

First off they could call it Liberty City or Vice City or something along those lines and people would know what it was.
