UT3 Gears of War 'surprise' revealed

PalGN writes: "Back in April, Epic Games' Vice President Mark Rein stated that the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3 would include a "Gears of War 2 related surprise". Speaking with TeamXbox, Rein has confirmed that the 360 UT3 disc will indeed feature exclusive Gears of War 2 video content.

"Yes there is a great video, narrated by CliffyB and Rod Fergusson, that gives a detailed overview of Gears 2 multiplayer and reveals some cool stuff. The video is exclusive to UT3 360," Rein told TeamXbox. "We think of it as a nice little bonus for the folks who buy UT3 360 which is an awesome multiplayer game in its own right."

Not a very good surprise IMHO. Others might salviate over getting a video but a code for beta ala crackdown /halo3 or early demo would have secured more sales. I will however wait for reviews before jumping in and picking it up. I was always more of quake fan than unreal.

UT is all about mods, otherwise, it's a great shooter, but there's already tons to pick from.

You're really wondering why isn't Microsoft allowing it. It's not like you could reprogram the whole console inside out. Are they scared that some mods would overheat the console?

Epic said they were going to push for mods and they'd be there in some form.

It seems they've given up on it and opted to release it as is.

Bare in mind, UT has no "campaign", the single player mode is basically training for multiplayer and the multiplayer element is held together by the modding community.

That's why it's got extra maps, split screen,characters, the PS3s free DLC from Epic and a GeOW2 feature - there's no mods and they needed to soften the blow. I brought this up at a forum I post on and got accused of trolling, I was just trying to stop people from buying a game with the main feature missing.

You guys sound as if console mods have been around in console gaming for years. Know why they didn't add it to this version of UT3? because mods were a failure on the PS3, such a huge faulure they tanked mods for future releases of UT3 games. Anyone who can make a good mod is already employed, thats why you see such low quality mods on the PS3 and PC. Mods on console have been a failure.... period.

you, as usual, are 100% wrong on this subject...UT3 for the 360 doesn't have mods because XBL is so beyond closed it would make even Apple feel claustrophobic...

mods haven't succeeded in console games because the only service available, until late 2006, for online console gaming was XBL...XBL and user generated content and sharing go together like oil and water...the PSN had a game with near full PC mod support in about 12.5 months...and the that network is taking content sharing to new levels this year...

don't kid yourself...Epic delayed the game on the 360 because of how closed XBL is, and because the only mods poor XBL saps will get is stuff they have to buy off of marketplace...not because 'they failed on the PS3'...do you hear yourself?...you are like a meteoroligist...I have no idea how you can stand being wrong nearly all the time...I suggest you stop posting on the internet...

it will have mods just no USER CREATED. Epic stated that they will take the best modded maps, all the PS3 an PC maps an put them on the disc. then as time goes on they fell theres a user created mod that deserves to be played it would be availble through the market place.

It's a great idea to sell the game. Before I heard about this I was thinking it wouldn't sell well for the 360. But with this a LOT of gears heads will jump at this game. I'll personally wait for a user video on the internet but hey that's just me. I also have UT3 for my ps3 anyways so ill save my 360 money for games like Gears and Too Human. It wasn't as good as I thought, didn't feel like the older UT games.

Of course it would make sense to have Gears of War in that game to advertise the new one coming out this year.
