The best basketball game just got better

"It can be tricky to make a good game even better. If you're trying to improve on the best there is, it's much harder. Take NBA 2K7, for example. Easily the best basketball title released this year (and arguably of recent years as well), NBA 2K7 upped the gameplay, the AI and the number of options that players could access. Not really a lot of room for improvement, right? Enter the PS3 version, which provides a new way to fire off free throws and places much more emphasis on the controller and the shot stick."

1 - I was amazed how vocal the development team

was about the extra things that PS3 hardware allowed them do that wasn't possible on the 360 (better graphics, more AI, etc). Their direct statement about RSX rendering better-looking pixels than the Xenos surprised me too considering how many forum people repeatedly claim otherwise.

I'm glad Visual Concepts was bold enough to push the hardware. I'll definitely check this title out for myself.

360 version 9.0 Presentation
Aside from a confusing menu interface, 2K7 offers just about everything you could ask for. The gamemodes are deep and plentiful, and the ambiant touches on the floor add the style 2K was missing.
8.5 Graphics
At times, simply gorgeous. Only some alien player faces can hold back the gorgeous animations and replays that will make you go pause.
8.0 Sound
Decent commentary and crowd noice, helped by a stellar hip-hop soundtrack.
8.0 Gameplay
Subtle improvements to the aging gameplay engine help 2K7 shine, yet problems with defense and clock AI persist.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Association is awesome. You could spend days doing pre-draft workouts, if you wanted. 2K's online options continue to dunk on the competition.

Extremely deep game options and slick TV presentation is still hindered by a poor menu layout.

Some visuals, like stadiums and character models have been improved. Some players still look hideous though.

The soundtrack and commentary are basically the same as it was from other versions of NBA 2K7.
8.5 Gameplay
SIXAXIS controller functionality places much more emphasis on shot timing, which will definitely help with the shot stick. Overall, it improves your game.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
2K7 is just as deep as you want it to be on the PS3, with tons of options and modes that you can adjust and play to your heart's content. You'll be playing this one for a while.

The presentation wasn't necessarily better on the 360, it just lost points on the ps3 for not improving given the extra development time and the feedback to the 360 version. Released simultaneously, the two games would have gotten the same presentation scores.

But besides that they're largely the same. Only big difference was controls.

4 - This is what is the most important....

Every reviewer has there own personal view. The best thing to do is take and average of all reviews...There are reviews that clearly state that the 360 version runs better and looks better....then you have IGN who rated the ps3 version better by .2 points.

But if you look at all the reviews and not just one source...you will see that the 360 version is rated better by 4% points on the average. WOW....Not .2 but a whole 4% points...

360 Nba 2k7 average score of 8.6

Ps3 Nba 2k7 average score of 8.2

So do you believe one site's assesment...or ALL the sites assessment?

Me personally...I don't need to read one review to see the obvious....The 360's 3rd party games run better and look better than every single ps3 3rd party game. I can say so because I have both and I have compared both using the same HD TV for an actual comparisson. And the ps3 first party games have scores of 2's, 3's, 5's, and 6's. WOW....

How can you argue with the majority of gaming cites?

Even G4TV expressed how dissappointed they are in the ps3's launch games.

So, yes you will find a review here and a review there that give the edge to either one...but as a whole...the 360 version has a 4% higher average review score. Yes, there are more reviews for the 360 version...but the fact remains the same. And like I said before...For this game I don't need a review to tell me what I know from playing both. The ps3 version's frame rate is horrible in 1080p and it studders in 720p. The detail is better on the 360 as well. So fanboys can sit back and never play either one and pick one review that basically says "if you have the 360 version there is no need to get the ps3 version"...WOW...Thanks Microsoft.

Thats what sony fanboys do. Attempt to put people on the defensive about off topic subjects simply because they can no longer defend the ps3 with its poorly rated games on its launch. I refuse to respond to you and xbug/enforcers same ole tactics to get the attention off of the ps3's underperforming. Like I said months ago... You and the other fanboys are getting just what you deserve.

1. poorly review scores for first party games......CHECK

2. Red light of death within two days running rampant with ps3 owners.....CHECK

3. Sony fanboys scrambling to the defense of an over priced under performing game console.......CHECK

4. 3rd party games running MUCH better and playing MUCH better on the xbox 360.....CHECK

5. Sony fans having nothing to say but resort back to their personal bashing which is a sure way to loose bubbles AGAIN...so they can make up a new screen name.....CHECK

6. Sony fans finding it impossible and silly to defend the poor performance of the so called next gen ps3 and their flagship game was called by GAMEPRO.com a ps2 game on steriods....ha ha ha ha....CHECK

7. They bring up stories that are fake to get the attention off of the TRUTH......CHECK

Bottom line is sony only fans are in complete denial and are completely dillusional...They are sick to their stomaches that all the stuff they were talking prior to launch has been proven to be a joke and the laughing stock of this site. Just give it up boys. Its over. The 360 right now in this next gen is out performing the ps3 in every area...you can keep making excuses but remember sony said the next gen don't start to the ps3 launches. Well, it launched and the 360 is out performing it easily. On top of that the 360 will have 10 million sold before sony even hits 1 million. WOW. Sony made it die hard fans wait...now the die hard fans are calling time out and want us to wait before it can compete with the superior xbox 360....Sad indeed.

7.1 - Red light of death running rampant?

I've seen one incident out of the entire internet community. Unless of course that counts as 'rampant'. Either way, Sony includes a 1-year warranty that surpasses the measly 3 months that Microsoft was giving consumers.

I still remember back in the RealDeal days when you would rely on IGN for all your 360 info simply because it posted the most positive information on that console. Now that the PS3's out, you only rely on Gamepro, a site that people predicted would give PS3 titles lower-than-average scores. And guess what, they were right.

"They bring up stories that are fake to get the attention off of the TRUTH" Umm...last time I checked this article is in print, online, and linked. How is that fake? Unless of course you're referring to yourself.

Let's go back. Way, way back when TG first saw the in-game screenshots of Resistance back in September. Topgamer: "Is this CG cut scenes? I don't see a hud, a weapon...anything to show its actually in game. Sony is good for this type of stuff...But where are the ingame screen shots? What are they attempting to do showing all these "obviously" not in game screen shots of this game. Show the real deal please."

Topgamer: "The graphics look bad folks. That doesn't look good to me at all. I only saw 1 to 3 enemies on screen at once. I saw no distructable enviorments. I saw no intelligent enemies....The lighging was bad, the textures are bad....The gameplay doesn't look innovative at all. I'm very dissappointed. I love FPS's...and this is one game I was looking to be decent."

This was the same thing with Motorstorm. First he claimed the gameplay videos were too good to be true and "obviously prerendered", but now he states that the textures are blurry, the lighting is bad, and that it doesn't look as good as Gears. That's right, he actually compared a racing game to a shooter. With Resistance he first claimed that the gameplay screens were CG in a sad attempt to make the PS3 look bad. But once he was disproven with the hundreds of gameplay videos that matched or surpassed those 'CG Lies', he had to revert back to "Those textures are blurry!" mode.

BTW Topgamer, I love your grammar and spelling. ^_~

9 - I love video games

I buy things with my money because I enjoy video games. Only a child would resort to name calling because they can't handle the truth about the video game system they have waited for a long time for and it doesn't stand up to the year old competition. I have said on day ONE that the ps3 is a decent system. But I refuse to lie for a video game system just so sony rabid fanboys will like me. I wear my honesty like a badge. Its there for everyone to see. We have known for months that the truth to sony fanboys is like kryptonite is to Superman. It kills you to finally realize that the next generation doesn't start when sony launched the ps3 but it actually started when the 360 launched a year ago....is the ps3 next gen? YES. I am not as harsh as my son is when he and his friends laugh at the graphics....I don't think the ps3 was worth the price of admission with the poorly rated launch games...but at the same time...I love video games. I spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on games a year. Its my choice. My wife and my son play as well. We all play games online together and having lan parties. Its something I love. I always knew that my honesty would rub some people the wrong way. But thats only if you only have allegance to one video game company. I do not. But, I will state the obvious. And if that bothers anyone...Oh well people. But the obvious thing to me is that the 360 is outperforming the ps3 on every front. Does that mean I'm going to return the ps3? Nope. I know there will be unique and exciting games to come at some point. But buying the ps3 has made me appreciate even more what Microsoft has built in the xbox 360. They have a masterpiece of a gaming console for a very good price. If someone told me they could only afford one system...and had 1000 dollars. I would reccomend the 360 simply because with that 1000 dollars they could get the best video game console on the planet and many AAA games to play on it, and if they enjoy movies they could get the HD dvd player, Vision cam to put themselves in the games....Rainbow Six VEGAS.....ect.... There are 19 editors choice games on the 360 right now as we speak. The ps3 has 1 and its average score is in the 80's.

P.S. I have one account and have had this account exclusively for months now.

P.S.S. I have 6 xbox 360s, 4 computers, 1 ps3, 1 Wii, 1 ps2, 1 xbox, 1 psp, 1 gamecube, 1 ps1, 1 dreamcast and the other sega and nintendo systems are in storage. So when you say how about be a multisystem gamer....I am. It just bothers you and others that I prefer one of the rest and I'm not shy to talk about it. Why does that bother sony rabid fan boys so much? Everyone is entitled to an opinion. And with the amount of money I spend and time I spend playing games....I have the right on this site dedicated for gamers....News4gamers.com to express my opinion based on my experience. And you know whats funny? I'm not alone. G4TV states the same things I say, many of the reviews say the same things I have expressed about the games. But yet sony fanboys have a hard time swallowing the truth. It is what it is. Get over it. And any xbox 360 owners knows they see me on xbox live all the time....I have everyone on here on my buddy list and I'm always either watching HD movies or playing Gears of War, FEAR, Splinter Cell, or Nba 2k7. My gamerscore is higher than average and you can easily see I have played and own every single 360 game to date. Thats why I'm the TopGamer. And when better games come out for the ps3. I will be the first to let people know about it. But right now. I'm left severely unimpressed by the launch games. With Resistance being the only bright spot in the launch. And honestly I would have gave it mid 8 just like the average review gave it. Its decent...but like Gamepro.com stated. I expected more from the ps3. A decent un original FPS...but solid and fun at times. Nothing revolutionary. And thats the truth.

My son is 9 and I never talk bad about any system in front of him. He has his own views and opinions. Same with my wife. I only talk about the sytems on this site. Me and my friends don't even discuss video games. We just have gaming sessions and have fun. And even on here I don't bash any system. I speak the truth about it. If the news is bad...thats what comes out. I don't make things up. I always have links to support or back my thoughts on a topic. I'm not like DJ and shadowgamer....I actually play ALL games and BUY all games. I don't play over at a buddies house. I buy every game and play every game...in the comforts of my own home. And thats were I come to my conclusions...I'm a gamer. You two are fanboys. Gamers can have opionions....but you must play games and be diverse in your taste with games. I am that. I play sony, microsoft, nintendo, and the computer games. And I love MMO's, FPS's, statedgy, sims, 3rd person shooters, fighting games, RPGs, action RPG's, sports games, ect....I love games. PERIOD. So call me what you want, talk about my kids and my wife, talk about how I'm a dummy ect.....Its what you sony fans do best. But you few are far from gamers. And thats the truth. I'd like to end this by saying "thanks Microsoft". Without you where would next generation gaming be...honestly. WOW. Next gen is here...its now....and its affordable. Jump In.
