Afrika Release Date, Price Announced

Kotaku writes: "Afrika, Sony's upcoming entry in the burgeoning savannah-wildlife-photojounalist-sim genre, has been given a final release date and price. It'll be out on August 28, and will cost ¥5980 (USD$56), which is a bit of a worry. I'd presumed this would be a neat little addition to the PSN's lineup. A different way to blow $15-$20. But that price has it pegged as a, well, proper game. And what they've shown thus far doesn't look like it has the legs/meat of a proper game at all."

1.1 - I guess they must not realize that.
Every game in Japan isn't a staple 60 bucks like it is in the states. I've seen many games, usually the more popular ones, be upwards of 7,980 yen(approx. $75).

1.3 - ^ Oh give it a rest already.
I've seen them smash the Xbox as well as the PS3 for a while now. They're just a generally cynical site. I find it odd that they are gamers, because I can't really remember anyone from that place enjoying anything.

In any case, this bias crap is getting stupid. They play both sides of the field. Not that it's acceptable, but whatever.

6 - Friggin Kotaku
and their biased comments again.
Price and date for the game are old news on N4G anyway.
Search for "Afrika" on N4G and you'll learn way more info than this garbage Kotaku post.
No Kotaku, the game is definitely not a $15-$20 game with the current given info.

Sony's making a huge mistake, not uncommon, for not releasing this game in all regions. Sony's classic for stupid things as of late, though. Eightdays, Getaway, losing support from developers like Ready at Dawn and Square.

$60 is a little steep for Afrika, I need to see some more detials before I even consider dropping $60 on this. I expected it to be $5 - $10 and for Sony to make other experiences like ocean, or tokyo. But $60 is too darn much.

9.1 - i'd say 39-49 dollars.
but we don't know enough about it. if there is some strategy to it(upgradable equipment purchased with money earned from pictures for ex.) this could be an ok game. but if it's simply take pictures for a book of some kind- it would have to be much cheaper(19-29 dollars) and marketed to parents with younger kids.

The kind of comments in here are exactly the reason that Sony have chosen not to release this title elsewhere. The Japs are not so closed minded about what makes an enjoyable game.

The game is different - if you don't see the value of it, then simply don't buy it. Its no more different than a karaoke title (singstar), or a simple quiz (buzz) or a high tech exercise mat (WiFit), and these are all expensive titles (with or without the hardware they need).

Personally, I'm all for different games and I would like to pick this up. I get tired of running around shooting or hacking things after a while...:)

Theres some hating there.

Point 1 - Most Ps3 games in Japan retail around the $75 mark not $60 like in the US. So this is faily cheap (for example MGS4 has an RRP of 8,800yen in Japan compared to the 5980yen Afrika has)

Point 2 - Was Pokemon Snap was a full game which i spent hours on? (the answer is Yes) and this looks to have a alot more depth.

Still what im more worried about is what you think is a proper game?

12 - There are alot of details they haven't annouced
What about the pictures you take you can sell to a local magazine or go big with international magazine...

what if there is a story of you in debt and your wife and children are leaving you..the money u earn can improve that situation....

how about the jeep you drive around costs money to buy and you earn them by taking really nice pictures?

How about a Home intergration for wallpaper? Who can take the best picture to put up the best wall frame

How about those robots that he used in the trailers? how about u earn money by using a crappy camera at first with low zoom and u have to get really close..? danger?

then you get a really nice camera with the virtua money u earn from taking pics to get a long range wide camera?

How about under the water equipment?

How about tree climbing equipment?

This can and does have potential to be a proper game, depending on the elements they include

13 - What the?
First, "not a proper game"? Are you kidding! From what I've seen, this game is truly impressive! As long as there is enough content to keep you playing for a while, it is a proper game.

I didn't hear about this being a Japan only release. Is it a no go for US or Europe or who? Or is it just a delayed release for translation purposes. I find it hard to believe they would spend 4 or 5 years on this game and then not release it worldwide. I was really looking forward to this title and that would be very disappointing.

13.1 - Just checked on the Electronics Boutique website
and they have Afrika with a release date in December. Glad to see that it should get released here in the US, but it will get stomped by the holiday rush. Bad time to release for a niche title.
