Hey it's good to be optimistic but I'm a realist. First and foremost, after shelling big money for these consoles, I care about the games. When games get canceled or Delayed(My attitude is I do not care, there is more games) I do care because I was looking forward to that game. That's why I have the damn console.

The introductory paragraph at Gamesindustry.biz has been changed to
"Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that it has STOPPED [from CANCELLED] production on two PlayStation 3 titles that were in development at the Sony London Studio - Eight Days and The Getaway."

sony or gamesindustry.biz went out of their way to correct themselves. hence i think the projects have been stopped but not cancelled altoghether. i think the reason for the stoppage are because resources have been diverted to home, lbp and killzone.

killzone has been a huge drain on sony's resources and so has home. sony can't afford to delay both these applications so have had to allocate additional resources to them.

doesn't care about what's coming out in late 2009 or early 2010. That's why the PS3 didn't sell as well at first, although it had one of the strongest lineups this generation. People who did their research bought PS3s, while the average consumers buy video game consoles for immediate satisfaction.

I'm partly glad that they're allocating more of their budget on games coming out in the near future, rather than spreading them all out and making all of their games come out equally slowly.

But I'm pissed that Eight Days may be fully cancelled. Work has ceased for now, but that was one of the games I was looking forward to the most.

Eight days was one of the coolest game trailers at E3, and the Getaway tech demo was awesome and i always wanted to see if that game lived up to the tech demo, cos its not impossible when you remember killzone 2. So im gutted. But i agree with the points the others were making, its not like ps3 gamers are now gameless, cos we have tons of games to look forward to, this year and next. However im not happy these games were cut. But better these games then some i cared more about

Umm, did you forget how many people with broken 360's said they didn't care about the RROD because they could just replace them? They said production was stopped but from what they said it doesn't necessarily mean for good. Just like the article says. So if you were/are looking forward to these games, there's still hope.

After 8 Days has been canceled:

But if it's the only way to make the games that will be released this year and early next year better than the games that have been released to date, then you have to do what you have to do.

There are realistic tradeoffs between time, manpower, and money. The only reasonable variable to deal with in here is time, so that's what they chose to let slide.

We'll have to wait until either they get more money from selling games this summer or another 1st/2nd party sees the light and turns into an Insomniac and figures out how to make 1 great game per year.

The Getaway was a very ambitious game, I hope it gets resumed sometime later down the road.

They dont need the games right now, and the resources apparently would be better off somewhere else at the moment. I'm pretty sure once the current production lineup starts finishing up, all that work done on 8 days will still go to use when they pick it back up. Shame though, 8days looked FKN good.

I don't think they got rid of them either. I think what happened is that Sony spent $60 million (I believe) on making Killzone 2 and before they put that much money into another game they want to see how Killzone 2 sells first. Not to mention that games like GOW 3, FF 13, FF 13 vs., and many more are expected to come out 2009 so they probably need as much help as they can get. I expect to see these games in 2010, 11, or 12 which sucks but I guess I would do the same thing if I was in Sony's shoes.

it was running in engine with a mixture of CGI, i think you forgot the tech demo that was shown in 2005 before the 8 days trailer, BTW Gran turismo 5 uses assests that were from the now "cancelled" getaway 3, i think your not up to date with what was going on with these games.
