Call Of Duty 4 sucks on Veteran

Ryan King from OXM writes:

Out of all the 'prestige' achievements you can get on Xbox 360, completing a Call of Duty game on Veteran is probably the most popular and well known. I've always felt my profile looked naked without an achievement for completing a Duty game on Veteran so on Sunday, with nothing better to do and a mild hangover restricting my options on how to spend the day, I decided to tackle Call of Duty 4 on its toughest difficulty.

1 - When I did it
I noticed all that you have to do is push as far forward as possible and your team will quickly dispose of the enemies.

made it quite easy actualy

Yea but that protect the tank level was pure luck. And yea the game is scripted to autosave at checkpoints, so just try and flank to the known checkpoints. Easy as Cake, I will say the A.I. is really cheap in Veteran but what do you expect when you play a game on the hardest difficulty available?

This guy brought the torture to himself.

Funny thing happened to me. I made it to the protect the tank level on veteran, then after countless deaths and about 45 frustrating minutes later beat it, and for whatever reason didn't get the achievement. Does the game automatically change levels once you die a certain number of times, or did I just get shafted?

1.3 - what you guys doen't play the hardest difficulty
first time i went through call of duty 4 was for pc, which was the hardest difficulty, why would you play easy or med...I at least play games on hardest difficulty cause its more fun that way, granted at first its trial and error but once you know the AI, its not a problem.

jaden, I 100% agree. After I started beating games too fast and wanting to sell them, I decided to start playing them on the hardest difficulty first. I makes 10 hour games turn into 10 day games.

dday isnt that bad actually....if your still at the start all you need to do is head to the right and youll find the ground blown up and a tunnel there....youll have to kill a bunch of guys but isnt to bad....for the most part when you out in the open areas you need to be using the ditches etc....but its hard but not impossible

a friend of mine(who mind you isn't amazing at games whatsoever) picks up the game and plays it on easy for about 15 min at some random level.

He then tries the exact same level on veteran and beats it. So within his first....40 minutes he went from easy to veteran.

He told me he knew where every guy popped out from...

Although it was just one level at a random point in the game, but still.

Yeah, but was it the level where you are climbing out of the chopper after the explosion? Even my little sister can do that level on veteran. :P

<The most difficult achievement in the game is "Mile High Club". That airplane mission in 60 sec on Veteran is ridiculous{in a good way]! That was my favorite level in the game.)

5.2 - Agreed
I love the veteran difficulty in the COD games. They're one of the few games outside of NG2 that truly challenge me.

I've completed all campaigns on Veteran in the series except for Mile High which after a Battletoads like effort I still couldn't beat. One day I will but the multiplayer's too good to distract me. lol

And THWIP I agree, COD2 was much tougher. :)

5.3 - Damn tough
Veteran was pretty damn tough... I remember the carousel sniper escape and the missile silos as being pretty damn hard... Only one left for me is Mile High... I can do it on Hard no prob but that 30secs less for Veteran kills me...

oh and this Ryan guy's a sissy 8D

nope...MGS1 for the PS1 on the hardest setting (no radar)...can't be done...simple as that...Second for me would be quake III on nightmare, I believe even Carmack said it was nearly theoretically impossible because of how tight the enemy accuracy was...

spent hundreds of hours trying to beat both those games on those settings...MGS1 I got to gray fox (ninja or whatever), and couldn't beat him...ever...and Quake III I could only beat the opening girl bot training mode thing (sarge was next and was absolutely ridiculous)...Ninja Gaiden is also ridiculous, but I have witnessed it be beaten on those settings...I have never in my life seen either of what I just mentioned completed on those settings without cheats of any kind (including emulators for MGS1)...

To this blog, veteran achievements to some people were nothing challenging. Those are of what we considered competitive players. More of which they prefer the harder, the better. It's one thing to achieve such achievements, and another to complain about how hard it is to get those through an insane difficulty. I had a mild hard time getting most of them but manage through because I was very interested in the game, and wanted it just as bad. So I'm clueless for such talk about how it's impossible to get these achievements.

You don't know the meaning of "hard" in a FPS until you've tried Timesplitters 2's Robot Factory on Hard.

10 - I played CoD2 on Veteran
Did it as part of one of the Old Spice Challenges, trying to get those bloody points... that was easily the closest I've come to throwing the controller through my TV screen. It's not that it's hard in a skills-challenging way, it's just frustrating trial and error with a little bit of luck thrown in on occasion. I made it through, but it definitely wasn't what I'd call a lot of fun.

Mile high club was the most hardest achievements by far, a one minute mission ended up taking just under 2 hours. I did do it in previous attempt but i shot the terroist in the leg and it said true veterans get headshots which was very fustrating.

12 - I don't know...
that I can play a COD game anymore unless it's on Veteran difficulty. There's something intriguing about the ridiculousness of it all. There's an odd satisfaction I get after beating some of the more frustrating levels (No Fighting In The War Room, anyone?) Still trying to get that dang Mile High Club achievement though. 8\

14 - it was awesome
the game really didnt give me any troubles, but when i got to the mile high club mission, it got hard. and when i finally beat it, i felt so ACCOMPLISHED!

kinda like when you beat Ninja Gaiden for the first time. That game just hands your ass to you, then you beat it and your like, EAT IT!

15 - hate
i played though till the final level were i spent 6hrs trying to get though the silos i hated every min of vet on this game but i did it slowly, i even took the time to do the bonus mission on vet which is just stupidly hard and i understand that it was supposed to be but the time limit on it is just not forgiving.

16 - Was quite difficult
Well for me, it was rather fun. Finished it in 2days. The hardest part for me was the very last stage, the one where u had to save the hostage in one minute, I think I replayed that part like a hundred times but finally did it, actually reached the end about 4 times but failed to kill the merc using the hostage as a shield and u aint allowed to shoot him on the leg, if you do that the game gives u a message that "veterans don't go for flesh wounds" or something like that but it really felt good seeing the little pop up that tells you achievement unlocked, I guess it sort of gives people bragging rights. Maybe some parts were purely luck but am glad that I have all achievements for Call of Duty 4. Playing ninja gaiden on master ninja now and this is a game that's just too damn difficult but I beat tha first game on master ninja, I think I can do the same for NG2 too.
