Battlefield: Bad Company to Have 300MB Install on PS3

SCRAWL: "SCRAWL reader Reedix sent in a comparison picture of the boxes of EA's upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company on the PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360. What he noticed was that the PLAYSTATION 3 requires 300MB of space while the Xbox 360 version requires 2MB of space. He got these box shots from the PS3 and 360 pages for the game on GameStop.com. Even if it is 300MB, I still don't like it."

If they can enhance gameplay like the less pop-ups GTAIV had, then bring it on, in fact, I'd be surprised if no game in the future requires mandatory installation, I'd take it as lack of programming skills even.

Mandatory installations = a plus, best for the user, better overall.

When the PS3 came out, eveybody said: "It's cool that they ALL have hard drives, because developers can use them since it's not an option"

Now, they are using the hard drive and everybody is complaining about it! Heck, I'm sure if they would have had the same choice for the 360, they would have used a lot more than 2Mb. Give the devs something and they will use it. End of story. Oooops I guess not. We will still see people complaining about using something available in all consoles for the next 300 games.

If people think devs should not use the new console ressources, then they should stick with their old NES. If they make consoles with hard drives today, it's because they are useful.

Ask yourself: "Why do PCs come with 200gig to 500gig hard drives TODAY. Because software running from hard drive is faster than DVD or Blu. Otherwise, all your PC games would run from the DVD with no install whatsoever... Personally, my gaming PC has 750gig of disk space, and it's almost full. Sure I wish my games would only use 2mb, but that's not the case! The PS3 is just somewhere in between. Load essential stuff, but also use the BR. How cool is that.

For me, as a potential buyer (80gig-MGS4Bundle), I'm glad to know that the Hard-drive downloads can range from a few hundred Mb up to several gigs depending.

After finding that the 20gig HDD for my Pro-360 was inadequate space, I was holding out for a PS3 bundle with a decent sized HD. A 300 Mb install is re-assuring to me, especially after hearing about all these required and unrequired installs...

Headline worthy = NO
Flame-worthy = NO, but flamers will blame while we cont to game ;P
Article-worthy = ImHo... yes... valuable and reassuring

300MB aint bad, and I am not going to get this game, but I still have my 20GB hard drive so I am starting to worry. I used to have Oblivion and that took up a lot of space. If Fallout is going to do the same thing, I might as well go ahead and upgrade.

300MB aint bad for PS3 owners who own, or intend to buy, games with these installations that vary from 300MB to 6GB (GT5) it is becoming an issue because all of a sudden more and more games are starting to have it, whereas in the first year it was only very rare.

If this continues we will be forced to upgrade our HDD's, in essence paying for something that should not be necessary. That principle is what angers me personally. Everyone can go "oh, wow its only a few megs or gigs" but these accumulate over time

It means that on the PS3, you have to install before playing.

On the 360, you just start playing, no installs needed.

What it really comes down to is while BLU-RAY has the capacity it doesn't have the speed to play any games directly from it. This just proves that the real advantage comes from having a Hard-drive standard in all models not having BLU-RAY.

It's simple the xbox guys have not shown up to tell you how much more superior the xbox 360 is to the PS3 because it only needs 2mb rather than 300 megs. They would have a point and made it's to get around the data copying or the blu ray speed but wait this could be a temporary memory storage deal. If this is true then it would mark a very impressive time for PS3 developer because it means they can use loads of virtual memory if they wanted to. MS may limit disk use if you look at their current practices.

It may not be news but it is some thing to talk about.

Dual layered DVD's aren't fast. Regardless of popular belief the reason why installs are there because they're available to the developers, not to fuel your fanboy obsession.

Blu-ray moves at a consistency unlike the ever degrading DVD with its gradually slowing speed.

Only a fanboy would believe DVDs are superior to Blu Ray. The xbox360 drive reads dvds at a variable speed - anywhere from 12 to 5 mbps, the further from the center of the disc the slower.

Blu Ray reads at a constant speed of 8mbps, which is sufficient enough.

If anything, installs are best seeing as how HDD's read over 100mbps, and they keep you from wearing out your optical drive, which is usually one of the first components to go out on a console(unless you have a 360, your screwed either way)

I could care less about this game, never liked battlefield and from what everyone who played the beta says this game blows.

Yo, Capt CHAOS, did you save that pic of yours on your XBox360's HDD for laughs and giggles? Wait, you don't have a built in HDD? A lot of them don't have, you say?

If there is a HDD guaranteed, it will be used, i.e. to install or cache stuff. Why shouldn't they, anyway?
