Itagaki VS Kamiya - Who Makes The Best Action Games?

There can only be one king of the action game genre and in the last few weeks, words have been traded between rival game developers, Tomonobu Itagaki and Hideki Kamiya. In the latest publication of Edge magazine, Kamiya states that since his last game the action genre has become stale and that his upcoming title, Bayonetta, will deliver the type of action only his team, PlatinumGames can provide. In the other corner, Itagaki-san states that Ninja Gaiden 2 is the definitive action game, that only Team Ninja can develope. So the question is, who makes the best action games? Itagaki or Kamiya?

We all know the mart has fallen off and his associate power of green(possibly the mart himself) handles the n4g crowd nowadays. I have seen power of green say stupid $hit like NG2. When i first got here, the mart was the first person i knew. The mart is THE original fanboy. Everyone else came after the mart. Sure he has cooled off because he has a site to run but he still sends out power of green to do his bidding. Mart may not have been as random as Nasim but fanboys evolve if we had to look back and say who is the one fanboy you all remember you know its the mart.

That being said, its a decent article but if you look at some of the garbage written as recent as last week, you will understand why nothing from that site should fly

DMC was always underwhelming. DMC4 still has a fixed camera and ancient level design.

To say a game that gets a metric score of 8.1 is a flop is not only incredibly fanboyish, but also just plain stupid. An 8 is a good score no matter how you slice it.

A game that gets a 6 for a metric score is however a flop. We all know which game I'm talking about.

Are you fanboys that desperate for revenge that you have to make total false claims? Just wait to see what Too Human, Fable 2, Banjo, or Halo Wars gets at least. None of those games are looking so hot right now.

Devil May Cry is a fun game, God of War can be beat with one weapon pressing the same button, Ninja Gaiden Black took some serious skill to beat. And after reading the reviews of the sequal, it looks like it's a hard game. Some reviewers even took points off it because it was to hard. I personally like the challenge.

Play god of war 2 on Titan mode and tell me if you can still beat it with one button. The great thing about GOW is that its accessible to everyone. I have played each GOW 2 times. I consider myself very good at the game and I can tell you that Titan mode in GOW2 is hard to beat.

NG is a harder game, thats a given. But dont act like GOW isnt a challenge if you want it to be.

thenickel, I will admit that NG has some kick ass gameplay, but DMC is truly badass. It takes just as much skill as you would use for NG for DMC. It's not a button masher at all.

I know he directed the first title.

He layed the ground work for future DMC titles. If it wasn't for him, the series obviously wouldn't be where it is today. The same goes with Itagaki, even if he hasn't participated in every project.

Where did I say that Kamiya was involved with the other installments of the franchise?

I'm simply providing videos. Note the word 'series'.

I can't find many of the older Ninja Gaiden videos, though tatsumarublack and Pokey86 have some of the best one's. These guys are really insane. For some reason, it's a pain to find their NG videos, though they're worth watching.

For some reason that was the only decent NG player on youtube, just about everyone else reeked. The best ones are hard to find. But Pokey86 is insane, he's mastered both franchises. The same goes for tats. What sucks is that I can't find a single NG video (streaming or downloadable) from either of them, even though I have the original video files in my computer. The old links are gone.

18 - What do you look for....

in an action game? If you want action game with an epic story and really good gameplay then then the GOW series wins. If you look for a game that challenges you to use your brain when you kill and actually DEFEND yourself from SMART A.I. then the NG series wins. If you're looking for an action game that has a metro sexual hero with stiff game play and corny one liners then the DMC series wins. But since this topic isn't about Jaffe's wonderful GOW series, that leaving NG and DMC. Ninja Gaiden gets alot of flank for its story and bla bla. Cool. Some people aren't philosophical or whatever. I thought the first one made sense. It reminded me of a good ole ninja movie where the ninja gets protrayed by a memeber in their clan. The premise of DMC is cool but when I played DMC 4(after playing NG) I was left TOTALLY underwhelmed. Your enemies just wait for you to hit them and the gameplay was stiff as h3ll. I'm sure and hope that in later levels of the game(the game was on hard) the enemies would prove more difficult. But the reason I didn't even attempt to play further was because of the slow running Nero and stiff animations of the characters. It just didn't feel fun to me. Not to mention how cool they TRY to be with their corny one liners. It almost felt like I was controlling the dude from Lost Planet. Anyhow for some people that type of gameplay is right up their alley. I just like a little challenge with my action. And even though I like GOW...in terms of gameplay RYU would destroy KRATOS. But he fought the GODS and he did this. So what. RYU has defeated GREATER FIENDS which is equalivent to a GOD in his world. Story wise...GOW wins. Gameplay...NG wins. DMC...who cares.

I agree that its different strokes for different folks. Personally I like the GOW series more because of the story. For me, in an action game I need a reason to fight from place to place. I really like the gameplay of GOW the best out of the three. However, I do see and understand the argument for NG. In NG the fighting system is much deeper and much much more diverse.

So, when it comes to the depth of the fighting engine NG blows away GOW. But this isnt reason enough to say that gameplay is better in NG than GOW. One great thing about GOW is that its incredibly accessible to the Noob and at the same time the difficulty settings make it a challenge for everyone.

The GOW fighting engine may not have the depth of NG but in many ways it surpasses the NG engine if not for the simple fact that I stated above. The combination of the story, immersion factor, and the tight tight gameplay of GOW helps it to surpass NG.

On to DMC, and obviously this is an opinion. I personally dont like it. I agree with the many points you stated. The story of DMC would be a lot better if it wasnt so da*n corny. The gameplay is fun but the animations are terrible. The backtracking in DMC4 made me quit playing it. Half of the game was backtracking through the previously beaten parts. It just felt gimmicky.

I wouldn't discount the series because of the backtracking of one game and the impact of the DMC series was felt for quite a while but I cant help but feel that its a little outdated.

Anywho thats my opinion.

Who wins? Who cares! both have something unique and fun to offer.

Oh yes, Haze is 576p, PS3 can do that resolution native.

GTA IV 640p?, do you know how that is done?, through software scaling on the PS3, which takes power away from running the game why would Rockstar do that?, do you think they are that dumb?, if there was no software scaling, GTA IV on PS3 will be 720p, fact.

and you know that the 360 can cheat it's way to get better framerate than ps3?, it can just use it's hardware scaler, dumb the rez down to like 567p to improve framerate, upscale it to 720p, Halo 3 did that, and it seems NG2 will be doing that too, and who knows if anyone at Beyond3D will want to admit to this....

GTAIV on PS3 seems to run @ 600 or 640p (360 on 720p)

640p is something like what 1156 x 680 or so. You go count the pixels on screen. There are many games not full HD also not on PS3, that's what is pointed out.

BTW NG2 reso is from the demo, taken a screenshot, not the final game.

But looking at the screen in front of me i see two posts done by the same people with different names, but share an IP Address and Email address, Plus not to mention the fact that the email address is PowerofGreen@Hotmail.com.

Now think about it, you think someone would actually go to all that effort and create a new email address and post on my blog just to set you up, it just seems like alot of effort for next to know reward.
