2 - It's not as noticeable as the difference

between say 480i and 720p, but it's noticeable noentheless. 1080p rocks, but luckily 720p still looks good so it's not like owners of older HDTVs are going to be left in the dark.

If you're right than this comparison serves no real purpose, aside from igniting a fanboy war... I can see the point of comparing 720p to 1080p on the same system... but across platforms, meh. Doesn't the PS3 have 720p or 1080p user selectable?... sure would help with this comparison.

Hard to tell i think the one on the left is 1080p the only way i can tell is by the richer color the 720p car is in sun light and the 1080p is under what looks like cloud cover [plus the 1080p's car's closer to the grass.

It's not a question of 1080p vs 720p. What's more important is 60 fps vs 30 fps. I'd play 720p 60 fps rather than 1080p 30 fps any day. Does anyone disagree?

8 - #3 / the TV's picture settings are not evenly set

Good eye! this compareson is no longer valid. The TV's picture settings are not evenly set and the sun is above cloud cover in one pick and the other the sun has no clouds blocking as much light. plus the better looking pic's car is closer to the grass and makes it look more detailed. but still the one on the lefts more sharp period.

9 - This is not 720p vs. 1080p

The cars looks different i.e., top pic is PS3, bottom pic is XBox 360. The XBox 360 is the better pic and shows how much detail you can have on the 360. There is another news article comparing the same pics. The 360 has better textures, lighting, and water effects. Dont get your hopes up sony fanboys, your version looks like the top pic and the bottom is ridge racer 6 for the 360. Same tracks in each version.

Here is the link to the PS3 site that compares the 360 version versus the PS3 version, the moderator of the forum closed it down i guess hes mad because the 360 version looks better. RR6 looks better than RR7.

ok this makes sense, thanks for figuring it out people. what caught my attention was the HUDs between the picutres are completely different (position of the nitro etc..)
yeah it is not a fair comparison then it needs to be on the same machine. also the ps3 version is more dev time than the 360

Dam i was wrong the one on the left looks more real after i keep looking at it look at the rocks the shading gives the rock a 3D look vs flat looking walls. If these are on two different consoles then that renders what i said in the posts above null.

There's no way they would be able to add better textures on the PS3 if they wanted it to run smooth at 1080P. This is why Sony should have made 720P there sweet spot as well instead of downgrading the visuals just to say that the PS3 can run "true HD".

If you clicked the link provided by the news article, then the 360 version is on the bottom. The dead giveaway is the font changes, RR6 has italic red font for the word position, and blue font your actual position. RR7 isn't like that. 360 pwns the ps3. LOL

The one on the left is 720p and is RR6 on the 360 and the one on the right is RR7 at 1080p on the PS3. I personally like the picture on the right as the level of detail at distance is far greater and gives it a more realistic look. The shadowing is better and so is the reflection coming from the car.

15.1 - Actually the 360

version looks more realistic because of the shadows on the far off rock edges, which the ps3 version lacks. Also the water looks more realistic in the 360 pic, it actually has waves, where as the PS3 version doesn't even look like water. (Look by the grassy curve towards the middle of each pic, look at the 360 version first it has a boat in the water too, because if you don't you won't see any water) Plus the 360 version is using HDR and AA, where the Ps3 version only has AA, showing a common NVidia flaw, NO AA and HDR at the same time.

The 1080p PS3 shot is definitely better than the 360 shot. Look at the shadows, the trees are actually casting individual shadows on the road, as opposed to the huge blocks of formless shadow on the 350. The reflections on the car are also much better, as well as the improved anti aliasing, probably mostly due to the higher resolution.

The ripples in the water of the 360 version look out of place, verging on whitecaps. For an area relatively enclosed, there should be almost no wind effect or ripples, like the PS3 version.

The PS3 version is vastly superior to the 360 shot.

16 - PS3 got PWNED!!!

Available as Ridge Racer 6 for the Xbox 360 and Ridge Racer 7 for the PS3, the PS3 version is said to run very fast, with an improved online gameplay experience over the Xbox 360 version.

But if you take a look at the side-by-side comparison of the graphics at the GameBrink.com website, the Xbox 360 version, even though released earlier than the PS3 version (which has really only been available for the past couple of days), has better, darker colours, with more detail in the road surface and in on screen graphics.

You do the comparison, the 360 version is way more detailed, with realistic water, shadows, textures, etc.... if you look towards the middle of each pic there is supposed to be water, in the 360 version you can clearly see water, but on the Ps3 version you don't see anything that looks like water.

actual game play is the true test. Sure you can show me a pretty picture but the true test is how the game plays. Now, I will say I think the pic on the left (assuming 360 version based on what everyone is saying here) does look more crisp and has a richer feel to it. But I wish someone could confirm that is in fact the case before anyone, including myself, tries to put down the PS3 and its capabilities as shown.

for me to shell out $200+ because that doesn't look like a $200 difference to me. One looks brighter than the other, that's the only difference to me. I'm not even sure if its the same car. I'm not a tech w#0r3, I don't train my eyes to be microscopes or special treat them to pick up the tiniest variations in colour right down to the smallest pixel. That is a waste of time for me. I've already decided that I'm gonna get a 360 this christmas and the ps3 next year for my birthday in June. That way there will be games on the ps3 that I care about but right now, not so much (though R:FOM looks nice).

Those pictures suck, you cannot make anything from picture taken like that. Actually you cannot make much up from the screencaptures either - other than that the one picture is twice larger. With this I mean that you'd really have to be there to see anything.

But the comparison is interesting, 360 launch RR vs PS3 launch RR. It's stupid to compare different companies' different games so this is the most fair comparison I think.

I'm not trying to start a war, but the shot marked PS3 in the top right looks a lot better than the other (lighting, draw distance). Some people don't want to say it and others don't want to admit it but it's true.

However, the X360 shot doesn't look like it's in 720 it looks more like 480 making the comparison void anyway.
