Killzone 2 development needed more time, says Reeves, conflicts with Eagle's take

Speaking to VG247, SCEE president David Reeves has admitted that Killzone 2's delay into next year was partly because the game needed more time, despite SCEA's Ron Eagle last night claiming the move was purely a scheduling decision.

1.1 - I personally did the interview with David Reeves in London.
If you read the story on VG247, you see that his comment's in conflict with the story you link to there, which is SCEA's Ron Eagle saying on the US PS blog that the game was delayed purely because of Resistance and SOCOM shipping before the end of the year. That story you're pointing out isn't even based on an interview.

You did read the VG247 story, right?

Yes, like every article i comment on, I read it.

So minus the statement your entire interview consisited of one question, to which he replied "Both". Thats is it, wow, call the press...

This article gave us nothing the other didn't, well apart from one word.

@1.1

Hmmm what are you talking about? Because it is not an interview it's false? ok why not?

It's true that they cant put 2-3 shooters (1st party, i know R2 is not but its kinda like) in 2-3 months, its called strategy and maybe they told themselves that killzone have to be perfect (it has be be for all the critics) so they decided to give extra time to this game because they know resistance and socom will have enough time to be polish and everything.

2 - So, you were completely wrong.
You claimed I didn't interview David Reeves, got the entire basis of your post absolutely incorrect and now you've realised you're wrong on every count what you're basically saying it that the story you didn't realise was a story just doesn't matter. Which is wrong as well. Anything else you want to be wrong about?

lol... I'm not sure what your trying to say, my point is that this "interview" of 1 question adds nothing new.

2.2 - @ Fishy
If there is content in the second interview that was not int he first then yeah, it DOES add to the information about the development of this game. Why not place your nazi-angst for duplicate posts towards posts that are simple spam or completely bogus rather than slamming on something that actually adds to the N4G pages?

Move on Fishy, move on...

3 - It does, dude.
In that story you linked to, SCEA said the delay had nothing to do with game's development. Reeves told me it did. It was part of a full interview, but I've just taken that bit out to illustrate the point, obviously.

So there we are :)

3.1 - Sorry Fishy but I agree with pat
It adds to the previous story by clearly illustrating that there were development issues with Killzone 2's delay and it was not as the PR simply because of a crowded lineup that they would like us all to believe.

then why didn't pat ask reeves what those issues were? see, this is why it adds nothing. pat is saying he did the interview? ok, then what interviewer doesn't ask the follow-up question: "can you tell me what those dev issues are?" this is only problem i have with the story.

I'll speculate and say that he did ask those questions, but like any good journalist he'll let the details bleed out over the coming week to boost web hits.

Just look at the Shane Kim media avalanche we've had recently, each site got one interview at MS' showcase but yet most managed to get two weeks worth of articles out of him.

And in the case that he didn't try to ask those questions... well I'm sure the editor will suggest he should start looking for a job elsewhere.

:)

No. I agree with Fishy. This article doesn't add anything new. It just gives quoted confirmation of something that should easily be assumed. Is the game done? Obviously not, or we'd have it in our hands as we speak. Therefore asking the question "Does it need more time?" is pretty redundant considering the obvious.

VG247: "Is that essentially it? It does it simply need more time?"

That last question is pretty awkward, but perhaps it is a typo. But still, I think you can SPIN it that way, that the KZ2 dev needed more time. But I don't think there is enough information in that one question and one word answer to justify any kind of conclusion.

If you interviewed him, why didn't ask him about further about the additional dev time they needed?

6 - Good to know but it does not matter.
Let them take all the time they need to get it right. All will be forgiven and forgotten as long as we get a spectacular game.

6.1 - very true
as long as doesn't turn into another "getaway", the devs should take their time and get it rite.

i mentioned the getaway for a few reasons...it took an eternity to build, cost a fortune and was delayed time after time. but was absolute dog-sh!t when it was released. and it was a sony first party game also.

I don't think anybody really believed Sony would pass up a chance of doing some serious damage to MSFT this holiday season. Launching more than one FPS can still be successful even more so durring the holiday season.

7.1 - I agree
I was thinking the same thing when I first heard about the delay. Sony's business model for the PS brand has always been "lose money now to make money later". If they could've released KZ2 around the holidays they would have because it would feasibly attract more people to the PS3. More consoles = more software sales down the road.

I agree, but I was bashed somewhat for calling Sony's excuse bull, and people saying it was a smart move and nothing more. That there wasn't anything wrong with Killzone 2.

I like it they delay it for the right reasons, to fix stuff; don't tell me it was because of "you don't want three shooters in the same time frame, it might hurt sales" crap excuse.

9 - I'd believe this
A game that's supposed to be as big as it is, I didn't believe it would be out in 2008 without being a total letdown. Sony wants this game to the benchmark of FPS and current gen games, so they'd be smart to give the development team all the time they need.

Funny thing is, Sony is backing up this game so much, but in the end, I have a gut feeling that Resistance 2 will be the better all around game. Those guys just keep popping out quality in a timely manner, which makes us gamers quite happy.

12 - Im a 60gig owner and...
Im actually bummed to know this is the only game I feel that proves why the cell processor was put in. I've seen other amazing PS3 trailers... but this game was actually playable looking amazing grafically... everything else on PS3 looks expected to me of this gen. But KZ2 is what I've expected all along as far as PS3's visuals go!
