Itagaki: No one takes its job as seriously as Rockstar

CVG writes: " Head ninja Tomonobu Itagaki has told CVG that he thinks no studio takes its job as seriously as those at Rockstar Games when considering adult themes and content.

During a one-on-one interview with Itagaki in London last Friday, Team Ninja's main man offered his thoughts on Grand Theft Auto IV. "I think it's made extremely well and is a fun game," he said.

"People always use that as an example of violence in games. But I don't think there's anyone who takes their job as seriously as the guys who make that game. You only have to look at all the detail in there."

Honestly, I couldn't get along with a girl that looks great but is dumb and/or has a shallow personality. I don't know, that doesn't appeal to me. But games are kinda different. If you ask me, all the DOA girls can have tripple doctors and whatnots, only makes them hotter, imho.

This is true, Polyphony has a whole bunch of documentaries on their endeavors and they take their jobs extremely seriously. They make sure all of their staff members drive all the cars, just a ton of other things. Basically each of their staff has to be able to race, or at least drive competently.

The title is missing a few words at the end. It should be

I can agree to that in some cases, but if they mean games that are rated Mature, I can think of another studio that takes their job a hell of a lot more serious..but thats only from a personal stance. How does one actually gauge whether or not a studio works hard. Sometimes, they work hard, really hard, but limitations or unforseen issues come up that hamper the game and makes others think there was hardly any work done at all.

Still, it's good to see that R* has Itagaki as a fan. It's always nice when different developers give praise to each other. Promotes a healthy business and a friendly rivalry to make great games.

bootslieon is probably referring to the big middle finger to PS3 fans when they announced Ninja Gaiden II a 360 exclusive. Which makes no sense after releasing Ninja Gaiden Sigma exclusive to the PS3. (I know I know, NG Black was on the original XBOX)

v1c1ous, the fuss is that NGII is a brand new story. If Itagaki was a smart man and didn't exhibit so much hatred for the PS3, he would have released it for both systems. I think FFXIII and Versus could be released on both systems (IMO) as well.

But this guy is an asshole, hands down.

Like I've been saying before, he's a talented developer but his attitude throws me off.

Oh, and bootsielon, I know you weren't referring to NGII but it pisses me off when this game is only on the 360. I heard Itagaki hates developing for the PS3 and I don't know if that's the truth or it's another one of those made-up lies.

v1c1ous, as bootsielon had mentioned, Itagaki belongs a third-party. The difference is that Insomniac as a second-party, develops first-party IPs for Sony. Team NINJA develops Tecmo's intellectual properties, this time around, Microsoft had purchased exclusivity for this installment of Ninja Gaiden.

Actually tordavis, despite their own respects toward each other and possessing the perfectionist mentality, they differ greatly philosophical speaking. Itagaki is a risk taker and has a preference for developing for the "most powerful platform". The use of violence, gambling, and sexual appeal is something he admits having to implement in his titles, which is in his competitive drive. Kojima on the other hand, loves to differentiate from the rest as admitted by himself. He also has the mentality of wanting "to be the first" in terms of being the first one of achieving a specific goal or achievement.

I could continue to list more, but due to time constraints, I have a review I must finish.

Kausdt, you're absolutely right. Itagaki has expressed appreciation toward Kojima on several occasions. In fact, Kojima had wanted a few select female characters from Dead or Alive to appear as playable characters in the first Metal Gear Online. However due to Konami's decision, he had to settle with characters from Rumble Roses.

He's a Legend because he made one of the best and most difficult side-scrollers known to man, Ninja Gaiden, for the NES.

And if anything, I think MGS4 will bring more to the table than GTA IV has, this year. Graphically, story-wise, gameplay, etc. Shame it's only on one console..

Anyway, Itagaki has his own views, and like I've said before, he's a bag of maggots, but he makes some great games.

But Itagaki prefers the Xbox 360 he has said that and has even done the X logo with his hands in an interview.

You can be rest assured that Team Ninja will continue to only support the Xbox brand I am rather impressed but he is not the only Japanese developer to go Xbox 360 only look at Mystwalker.

The Xbox 360 has the highest Japanese support and Japanese games you can disagree all you want but I can easily support that claim with many Japanese 360 only games.
