UGO writes: "As one of the few bright spots of the PS3 launch, Resistance was a solid shooter with innovative weapons and an intriguing, alternate-timeline story. And, if you can believe it, the sequel, Resistance 2, is already well on its way to a Holiday release date! We got to spend some hands-on time with the game's multiplayer to see how Insomniac is going to pull off those 60-person matches they've been talking about.
Resistance 2's multiplayer is a very different beast from most multiplayer shooters. Because of the massive player numbers (30 on 30 can get a little daunting) the developers decided to focus things up a bit. Matches are objective-based now, with small squads fighting over portions of the map against "rival" squads. The idea is that, even though you're in a game of 60 people, you're really only dealing with the same dozen or so on a regular basis. This creates feelings of rivalry and deep hatred for the enemy squad, making frags all the more rewarding."
