I personally found the demo to be boring and generic as hell.

I sat down to play it twice, and both times I couldn't even finish it.

It feels like Far-Cry with a twist, except without the fun gameplay.

The question is what is the game rendered at? According to Quaz, 576p. To be honest I don't care what res the game is rendered at as long as it looks good, the main thing is don't spread misinformation.

Personally I found the Resistance demo was lackluster... but then I heard good reviews, so I bought it anyways - and thankfully I did, because I loved it.

Haze demo was also lackluster, but I have a feeling it may not do justice to the full game.

I agree that a game shouldn't be judged and thrown away because of its resolution, but I also think that the resolution is an important factor in this generation of gaming. I mean, when I played the HAZE demo (said to run at sub 570p?), I could see all the pixelated shrubs, pixelated ship fragments, it was okay. I loved the gameplay though. But when I play a game like Warhawk (720p), I'm in love with it all over again because the lines are so smooth, and everything is so tightly colored...its just cool to see.

If developers can't optimize their games to run at HD resolutions, then whats the point of this generation, had its main focus to upgrade from Standard Definition gaming to High Definition Gaming?

Don't get me wrong, gameplay should NEVER be sacrificed for graphics (or in this case, resolution). But the importance between the two aspects of gaming can only differ so much. Graphics contribute hugely to the realism of virtual reality, and there is no where else to go but up (in resolution). And in this case, the standard of HD, which is 720p.

Jdoki, you can joke however you want, but Quaz51 is well-respected in the Beyond3D community. He's proven himself time and time again in finding out the correct rendering resolution for dozens and dozens of games.

Also, just because this community manager says Haze runs in 720p doesn't mean anything; he could just be saying that it outputs at 720p, but the game itself is rendered at a native resolution of 576p (and is upscaled to 720p output).

That PS3 and 360 can't do 720p in some games? Big deal.

For every fantastic game that does run at 720p there's one that doesn't. It doesn't diminish enjoyment of the games, it just gives ammo to fanboys.

It seems like just because we have these two magic numbers - 720 and 1080 - any game that doesn't hit 720 gets an instant fail.

If the devs needed to knock the resolution down to get a silky smooth frame rate, I have no issues with this. My only issue is if the frame rate sucks.

The PS3 uses a line doubling technique that's done in software, the 360 actually uses a good hardware scaler chip, that can do ANY resolution, PS3 has none, so games can only be line-doubled in software, hence 480 line doubled to 720 and 720 line doubled to 1080, not any of these unknown resolutions like 580p, 640p etc.

It is not possible to take a game on the PS3 and Render it in a hardware scaled fashion. It renders Game Assets at their natively rendered state. So all PS3 games can only range from 480P/i, 720P/i or 1080P/i Natively.

So whatever a developer sets the developed resolution to run at game play time on PS3, that's what you'll get and it will be one of those set Resolutions (480, 720, 1080), the Haze demo is definitely 576p, no s**t, because the PS3 CAN do that resolution, you can even see it on the XMB display setting, which you can't deselect.

It's like with Dark Sector, the PS3 version is 640p yes?, well Quaz seems to think it is....wrong, Bungie did the same with Halo 3, and made it scale natively at 720p USING IT'S HARDWARE SCALER, the PS3 hasn't got one, so how the hell can the Dark Sector developers do the same with what Bungie did?

This is why Quaz thinks he can apply the same methods of determining unknown Resolution's on the PS3. Which is simply not true with a machine that only has a software Line Doubler.

The truth is, whether you want to agree with it or not, GTA IV, Dark Sector, MGO to name a few, on PS3 is 720p native, and you can force it to go 1080i or p.

You're actually correct in your statement that the PS3 doesn't have a hardware scaler like the XB360. However, games like Dark Sector, GTAIV, and Haze can run in resolutions such as 640p and 576p BECAUSE the developers can opt to use a SOFTWARE scaling solution to scale these resolutions up to 720p. Sure, a software scaling method such as this will have a performance cost, but you should realize that the PS3 is not limited to line-doubling--it can do software scaling from any sub-720p resolution.

Just look at Call of Duty 4, 600p on both 360 and PS3, as another example of this. Infinity Ward uses a software scaling technique on the PS3 to upscale the 600p to 720p or 1080p video output.

Why does they PS3 need to run in higher res when it can run in a lower res and still look better? Take GTA4 for example. The PS3 runs in a slightly lower res and still looks better. Maybe you should ask yourself why the 360 doesn't get their crap together. They have been around a great deal longer than the PS3 and yet the PS3 has begun to outclass them lately with quite a view game visuals - GTA4, Dark Sector, Iron Man, etc etc etc. It will only get worse for MS.

The PS3 is the only next gen console regardless of the fact that single console acolyte screwheads like you refuse to admit it. With last storage technology and graphics that are now outclassed in every big release coming out, the 360 has aged and not gracefully.

GTA4 had to be downsized because of a last gen medium - DVD9. It is one thing to say "We can't yet provide a Matrix jack-in for virtual reality experiences in gaming" and it is another to say "We had to limit the size of the game. Not because we can't render something with new technology but because we don't have room to put the game on the disc." Storage is cheap...unless you are buying a 360 120GB HDD.

In this day and age of ultra cheap storage medium the fact the largest selling game of 2008 was cut short because of capacity is inexcusable and as last gen as you can get.

The Wii, and I have one, is fun for parties and such but as a serious gaming platform it is wholly lacking. Okay, it has a next gen control scheme. Does it? Metroid Prime was about as frustrating as it gets with a big arcade cursor on the screen. Used for shooting it makes hand held controller use even more inaccurate.

If you take a game from the Wii and apply a normal control scheme then that game often fails miserably. A game has to be good on it's own before you add a motion controller. A bad motion control scheme can ruin a good game (Lair) but a good scheme can't save a bad game. And far too many Wii games are just crap.

I remember reading somewhere that there was a problem with review copies not turning up on time for the monthly mag reviews. Who knows. Maybe FR know the game sucks and dont want news getting out before it launches. Maybe there was a shipping problem. Either way I cant wait.

That sounds about right to me Yanikins, if a dev knows there game is crap then they delay reviews till after release its a real dirty trick. I think we all know from the demo that Haze is a rental at most & is prob one of the most overhyped games so far of this gen.

I dont think anyone will give 2 hoots about this game after MGS4 arrives a couple of weeks later.

haze has been delayed time and time again and so far there is no evidence as to whether its good or not, you can't judge a game by its demo...

i thought uncharted's demo was garbage until i bought the game and it turned out to be one of the best experiences in probably the history of gaming...that game was a production masterpiece so you can't judge a game by its demo

and to all the xbox fanboys hating on sony...the ps3 has a lot of untapped potential whereas the xbox has reached its limits just face it the 360 was a last-gen console whereas the ps3 is a true system for home entertainment...the 360 doesn't even belong in the same category as the ps3...and when haze comes out i believe it's going to be much better than halo 3 because that game was hyped for no reason whereas at least haze brings new ideas to the FPS genre

The big jump in graphics comes from SD to ED. When i first got my 360 i managed to hook it up in ED to my crt tv, and man, the graphics comparison was out of this world. ED to HD is really not as big a jump as some people make it out to be.
