GamesRadar: Killzone 2 Hands-On

Well, here's a surreal moment that's been a long time coming. Almost three years to the day since GamesRadar first saw the infamous "is it real or not?" Killzone 2 trailer at E3 2005, they have just seen the scene - heavily reworked, but nonetheless unmistakable - live and in real time in its proper place in the game.

As it turns out, it's the opening scene to the game's second level, Corinth River. Humanity is attacking the evil Helghast homeworld in an effort to kill Visari (think Space Hitler). So, after a quick tutorial on level one's capital ship, it's time for your character Sev to jump into a fleet of small, open-roofed flying troop transports called Intruders - with Rico from the previous Killzone games - and drop into the hot zone.

i like how the controls are laid out. L1 is a good cover button. while in cover the left analog stick is perfect to peak and fire... and so on.

So, how does Killzone 2 compare to recent smashes like Call of Duty 4, or upcoming competing shooters such as Gears of War 2? We'll have to reserve final judgment until we get more time with it - we don't even know the details of the multiplayer modes yet (we do hear co-op is planned, though). But for now, we can confirm that it is absolutely strong enough to give any of those titles some stiff competition, and that's more than enough reason for us to be eager for more.

Well the game does look better then Call of Duty 4. Its animation is on par with Call of Duty 4 but the stuff happening onscreen and the overall graphics does make it a solid contender for best shooter of 2009. But again thats my opinion and we haven't seen any shooters for 2009 anyways. So lets hope this game delivers on the promises of mind blowing action and jaw dropping visuals.

1 - It's hard to believe but .....

by the time this game comes out it will have been 5 years yes 5....

now to understand you have to count with me

it's going to seem crazy but trust me

let's start the count... shall we..

count with me E3 2005 - 1 year

2006 - 2 years

2007 - 3 years

2008 - 4 years

2009 - Feb which is when the game comes out -it will have been 5 years

Man that's a long time to wait for a game..

I just hope this game lives up to the hype... because if a game being worked on for 5 years can't impress on the PS3 then nothing will.

I think the first trailer was shown in July 2005 and if the game comes out in Febuary 2009 that will be roughly 3 1/2 years not 5.

3 - And yet XBox 360 fans keep calling the

PS3 and naming it by the delays Too human has been in development since 1993 and thats even longer then Killzone 2 and alan wake took what? and same thing with Halo 3 and we all know how that turned out! and Gears of war 2 took what and still looks the same as the first and no Xbox is the BEST Too human was first on PSX then developed for XBox 360.

5 years in developement and I still see no major progress that would make me stop playing halo3 or cod4. The A.I is terrible and the overall gameplay is majorly sub-par. The only thing this game is riding on is its graphics, but lair and HS showed that even good graphics doesnt make a good game.

Are you saying that you think the game wont have replayability because of the AI ??

If you are then I'm sorry to have to tell you that you are a twit. You don't still play COD4 or HALO3 on the singleplayer, you play them online and that's what you would be doing with KILLZONE2. That's where the replayability really comes into alot of games these days. KILLZONE2 has the potential to be fast, furious, stealthy and at points quite team based.

Fast, because it's a FPS, but with the offering of the cover system it can keep things a little slower if the person wants to play like it.

Furious, because it seems intense as it is, I'm sure that when the game is online it'll become even more intense.

Stealthy, with the lighten system they have created and have shown off in the E3 07 level we see the rich darkness in some areas, which can give some players the chance to hide in the shadows waiting for their spotted prey to walk straight through. The 7.1 sound will make this one absolutely amazing

team based, at certain points we see team members down and we see climbing ledges in teams, this could be great in the multiplayer.

This offers much more than COD4 does simply because of how advanced the game is. OH and guess what... you don't need AI when playing online ;)

if a game that was 9 months away from it's release dates was bug free, It would be one of the most amazing achievments for any developer, that was a ridiculous comment really.

But now that I come to think about it, judging by this particular hands on impression, I see nothing about the game having bugs or such. please correct me if I'm wrong here, or possibly you could read it yourself before making comments which are purely to fill the need to bash this game because it's not coming out on a system that you own.
