GTA IV Strength Doesn't Drive Hardware Sales

Videogame sales jumped in April thanks to a strong debut by the blockbuster title Grand Theft Auto IV, but the game failed to produce new sales of the next-generation gaming consoles it was designed to play on.

I think consoles are too expensive right now for any one game to drive sales, especially in this economy.

Yeah you're still in gamer land at these prices. When they hit around $200 you'll see the mass market happen.

Yeah the prices the way they are right now; it'll take more then just GTA to move consoles. I think that $200 for the basic consoles (40 gig PS3 and the non hard-drive version of the 360).

Once the console makers put the machines in the price range of the normal consumers (economic downturn or not), then they'll see the numbers rack up.

otoh - a single game doesn't drive HW like it used to.
Generally it's catalog that does now or name recognition.

3.1 - Good point...
Again, I think it comes down to cost and value.
