He is obviously ecstatic over the 900 sales lead they enjoyed this month. Not to mention the fact that they reached 10million units in America first and history shows first to reach 10million wins the console war (even if they had a full yr head start). Valid reason to be ecstatic if you ask me

A high ranking official of a corporation downplaying its competition, yeah. Real mature.

Microsoft (this guy and Shane Kim) NEVER EVER EVER shut their mouth, do they?

1.5 - They sold what...a thousand more units last month
in the U.S. and the PS3 is getting squeezed out? What a dope. Hey Dopey, the PS3 is catching your system and is projected to overtake it by the end of the year (worldwide sales). The PS3 did quite well with GTAIV sales for a system with a smaller market share. All this and the big exclusive games aren't even here yet!

Lifendz, I would love to know where you get all this information because it is completely wrong.PS3 will not pass the 360 this year at its current rate. Worldwide sales are not as PS3 dominant as you seem to think. Yes in Japan where no American electronics product will ever sale, the 360 is doing poorly. What you fail to mention or just dont know is that the PS3 is also doing poorly there. They are lucky to break 10k a week in sales. Both systems are within 100k of each other most months world wide. At that rate it could take years for the PS3 to overtake the 360. It may have been predicted years ago before the PS3 even launched and every analyst was picking it to be THE hit of this gen, but I doubt anyone said that recently. Well not anyone with any kind of common sense because monthly sale figures for both console s show it will take Sony a long time to over take it.It may never over take the 360 in the US.Japan is a freebie because it wouldnt matter what the 360 had in it or what games it had. The masses over there will not buy American electronics. Even if they do make them.

Didn't the NPD data show that the Xbox outsold the PS3? Maybe you're just pissed off that Sony keeps promising all these great games but are failing to deliver, delayed much, or you're just pissed off that you bought a games console but got a blu-ray player. The only reason they 'sell' any PS3's is because they have to give them away with their TV's.

1.13 - Yes, this is true, but I also like...
Some of the statements he made, like: "Let's hold ourselves accountable to what we're telling people what we're going to do. We owe it to our customers."

And things like: "I think Xbox has been a lot more straight with the customers about saying what we're going to do and living up to it than Sony has in this space."

Wait...yes, Microsoft is saying that Sony should hold themselves accountable for things and be "straight" with customers when Microsoft tried as hard as they could to pretend things like the RROD wasn't happening and wasn't widespread. Even after they fessed up and were under the gun to take action, I have heard a lot of horror stories about getting refurb after refurb and Ring after Ring (and of course, there is the flip side where people have a great experience). Yes, you owe it to your customers to, what, give them a slap in the face and a middle finger with every coffin?

I'm not saying that some of these things aren't true. It's a bit grounded in reality. I think that Sony had to show off some of their IP's and Services (Home) earlier than they would have liked to to show that they had things in the pipeline during their lackluster launch. That is the problem with showing things early, even with only a tentative date attached because people seem to take that as gospel.

I just have a problem when these companies start slinging these things at one another and they just end up being/sounding ridiculously hypocritical. I am not blind to the fact Sony does it as well, but in this instance, I have to say: You Mr. Greenberg, are in the wrong.

2.3 - MS is smoking crack
I enjoy the games on the 360 but.. 50 gigs is always going to be bigger than 9. Seeing the length of most 360 games and the fact that most 360s warranty will expire in 2 years it is easy to see that MS will have to come out with a new console, which means they will leave the battle to early to win. If they don't then that means most of their hardware sales in 2 years will be replacements and attach rates will magically drop.

I find it funny that all 3 consoles have their own regions which butters their bread the most. Japan for Wii, America for 360 and Europe for Ps3. Pretty interesting to me.

The donuts have finally gone to this blokes head. It makes you cringe to hear this kind of thing from a exec. at MS. Here are the Worldwide hardware totals. Can anyone show me where the PS3 is being squeezed out?

Hardware Totals: [Last Week #]

DSL: 422,960 (-1%) [425,369]
Wii: 370,641 (-45%) [673,983]
PS3: 221,855 (-39%) [365,822]
PSP: 202,696 (-17%) [244,245]
360: 170,244 (-36%) [264,668]
PS2: 102,322 (-6%) [108,348]

He must have been thinking about the PS2 making those comments!

I am surprised at how much the sony fans are in denial.. i mean look at the npd.. thats 20,000 more units this month, for a console that already has the lead, and has already been out for a year b4 the ps3 even came out. I mean its expected that the ps3 should be outselling the 360, because the 360 has not had as significant of a price drop as the ps3 has (the ps3 is pratically giving itself away - cheapest blueray player, and cheapest cell processor pc), and still the 360 outsells it.

Give it credit already, its going to be pretty hard for the ps3 to outsell it ever if its sales are neck and neck now..before the 360 price drops which we all know is coming soon (its only been out for 3 years now)... Worst of all for the ps3 is that the 360 has higher ranked games then it. Even if some how all the titles coming out this year for the ps3 are complete successes it will still be only equal to the number of great titles in the 360 line up. Assuming that all the 360 titles this year are complete failures... which going by their history this generation is simply not going to happen.

The 360 is doing quite well.. regardless of the excuses you make for your ps3.. or how often you bring up RROD..

How lame, do you fanboy pricks have to be? 360 is the ps2 of last-gen. Wii will take the industry in a (hopefully optional) different, more immersive way to call your friend a douche while swinging a golf club. Sony sold gamers to anal rape with blu-ray and ps3, instead of acting like the industry leader. I'm just a gamer, I go where the games are. If the rest of you braintrusts are too in love with a company to go where the games are then I'm thinking your probably a loud mouthed, fast talking douche.

P.S.
F*ck Off

I'll agree with you on the over charging of Blu-Ray. But the other stuff you're sprouting off about i don't agree with you. I don't think the 360 is the Ps2 of last gen. Sales wise or games wise. The 360 has had a few nice exclusives (BIOSHOCK, Mass Effect, Gears) but besides that everything else has been multiplatform. Orange Box, GTA4, Oblivion etc. Also you say people are too stupid to know where to go where the games are. I'd have to say you're small minded to think that people didn't know what they signed up to when purchasing a console. XBox owners are naturally going to go with the 360 since they had a good time with the console same for some Ps2 owners like myself. I brought a Ps3 because i knew i'd be able to finish off the God of War trilogy, along with MGS since those two are my favorite two series of video games.

Also that last bit about the anime watchers and whatnot sound funny coming from a person trying to act tough over the net with "frodo" in their username.

Yeah I know reading is hard sometimes, I have trouble too. To clear up what bfrodo said for you, he was saying fanboys = emo, goth, anime loving gay people, a mere mix of atrocities all bunched into one. Reading comprehension is fun! Anyways, anime doesn't equal emo, everyone knows that. Anime = horrible japanese animation for people who waited in line for days to see Star Wars: Episode 1.

they're getting murdered over there. They should stop all their focusing in Japan and take that money and apply it towards a system that won't get the RROD. Seriously, it's year 3 years into the 360s life span and there are still reports of 360s breaking.

6 - Greenburg is talking about the US
And in a sense the PS3 is getting squuezed out. The hardcore market seems to prefer the 360 = look at the software attach rate per console sold. The hardcore audience buys a lot of games.

And the Wii obviously caters to the casual crowd. Obviously all the consoles are competitors against one another. But Sony seems to be getting attacked on two totally different fronts.

One thing is most likely, at least in the US, that the console base will be distrubuted more evenly amongst Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft this time around. Instead of Sony dominating like they did in the PS2 generation.

"ok stop that. First the 360 is older, so more people have the console = more people buy softwares."

I'm not talking about that. Software attache rate is in reference to 'the amount of consoles in consumers hands' as compared to the 'amount of games sold.' It is a percentage. The numberof the install base has nothing to do with it.

6.5 - IM sorry
BUT consoles are NOT hardcore..... if it was so hardcore why do ppl talk about the price of consoles so much. They want good entertainment at the right price.

Yes xbox has more gaming entertainment but it the gap is diminishing, but the end of this year many individuals are going to see this ps3 as greater value even though it is more expensive.

If you want to talk about hardcore go into the pc realm where its a BIG niche market where you get to configure parts.

The wii has done it quite so fine with the gaming market.... but Im afraid they are swaying to far away from traditional gaming methods.... I have an odd feeling the wii in the end will be regarded as a novelty item.... neat and all but in the end they are going to have to increase the horsepower on their console.

oh you mean attachement rates like this: (as per NPD)

"Spurred by the tremendous legacy of the Grand Theft Auto franchise on PlayStation, over 1 million copies of Grand Theft Auto IV for PS3 were sold in April in North America, with 23.6% of U.S. PS3 owners purchasing a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV, a 29.0% higher attach rate for the title than Xbox 360. "

hmm... 29% higher attachment rate .. .yep that is getting squeezed out by Microsoft...

>The only reason the PS3 is even remotely being outsold here in the US is because most consumers here are just ill-educated and can only think of how much they are saving buying the 360 vs. the PS3. Everywhere else in the world... people know better.
