GTA4 was end of April, so it didn't really push hardware sales that much yet. Still, the fact that both versions came at first and third means that it still sold a ton.

Yup, both consoles were extremely close this month, to the point where it's silly to say the 360 outsold the PS3 when it was only by 900 units or so.

That being said, if Sony wants to beat Microsoft in NA, they can't have "extremely close" numbers. The PS3 needs to dominate the 360 month after month in order to close the significant gap.

Interesting GTA4 numbers -

Almost 2 of every 3 copies of GTA4 sold (1.85 out of 2.85 million) were for the 360.

However, that also means only 1 out of every 5 360 owners bought GTA4, while 1 in every 4 PS3 owners bought GTA4. So, while the 360 version nearly outsold the PS3 version 2 to 1, the PS3 version had the higher attach rate.

I'm very curious what May's numbers will show.

they should start adding Psn/Xblive games, casual games are what's selling...and trust me more people are buying 10 dollar games then there are for 60 dollars... take cod 4 DlC for example, sold millions already, and not recognised on the charts...okay maybe yout shouldn't count dlc, but pc expansion packs are always counted, right? I really want to know how much Gt prolouge 'really' sold...or maybe flow...

May's NPD results may be more or less the same. I expect the Ps3 to boost its sales with the 80gb. I think people are waiting out on this one.

A good poll has a 3% margin of error either way. So statistically 360 and Ps3 are in a dead heat picking up the scraps left by the Wii. Truly sad for everyone but Nintendo.

Perhaps because NA is still considered the x360 territory. If for example the PS3 just manages to outsell the x360 by 900 units in Europe i bet you won't even see Nasim jump with joy.

Nintendo is really taking away the whole casual market. There is absolutely NO WAY that the PS3 or the 360 will reach the numbers the PS2 made because Nintendo is swallowing those people whole.

The PS3 and the 360 are just left to fight for the hardcore market as sad as that may be.

We're sure to see a spike in console sales when NPD does this month's numbers next month due to the game releasing at the end of April but its still a troubling sign when you factor in many gamers would have tried to get the console ahead of the launch but like I said in other posts the bulk of a title's success or its effects will happen after launch.

Captain Tuttle is correct and thats ontop of the gaming industry's dormant period.

You'd think PS3's fanbase would have many GTA fans by default and could have competed software wise regardless of fanbase size, Example if Halo 4 was multi platfrom and PS3 had the bigger base the 360 would still have competed on the software front due to the popularity of the franchise on its console of birth *so to speak*.

Wonder if the PS3 being in the DVD player market has anything to do with this.

Ya, that's what I've been wondering. I'm going to buy PS3 soonish, both out of curiosity and since it has that BD-player embedded into itself. My only gripe is that the damn thing is quite expensive: $600 for 40gig version over here. You americans have it way too easy (counting only citizens of US).

the reason why the Wii is selling so many units a month is because its accessible to more people than the 360 and PS3 are,
including my HDTV, sound system, PS3, and all my games, i've spent well over 1,500 just to game in HD, my cousin who has a Wii spent about 500 bucks and he has a Wii, 3 controllers and 5 games (i have a PS3, one controller and 5 games and i spent about 780 bucks on that alone)

For those of you still in deniel. The ps3 nor the 360 will become the next ps2. The wii has already done that. Since it's release on NOV 06, the WII has been so hot and it hasnt stopped. 1 year 1/2 guys. still shows no sign in slowing. + the popularity of the DS is making a WII+ DS combo tough to beat. If GTA 4 + GT 5 P + (has the mighty blue ray) all in 1 month of april can only push 187k units, do you really think MGS4 will push the ps3 to 500k? NOT. Both sony + ms better start to think of ways to push those consoles out. Cause it's funny to see the pooor small kid in the block destroying them on the hardware sales.

@bottomj..it is sh*tting on the consumer no doubt....but you have to figure with europe..the ps3 and even the xbox was the highest priced and people are buying both in droves...cheapest xbox is what right now...400 bucks...I waited a year before I purchased my xbox at 400 bucks in america...europeans could of waited and im sure there would of been plenty of price drops like there was in america...my point is...if your bending over..why not thrust harder. and sorry cmrbe I have no interest in working for ms lol
