Makes sense since most games do it illegally anyway.

"Real money trading is the use of real money to buy in-game assets - items, currency and services - in MMOs"

I don't agree with this, especially since you already paying a monthly fee to play an MMO, why should some one have the upper hand if they pay more than me? I could understand if they PLAY more, but paying more? This could be real stupid move.

As this is only an article explaining that they are only flirting with the idea, I hope SOE comes to their senses and ultimately abandons this idea.

3.1 - I don't know what to think of this
Trading Money for ingame assets degrades the quality of the MMO. So, in principle, I'm not for any sort of real money transactions in online MMO's.

Still ... I can't think of ONE game that doesn't have it. It's just that these people sell the ingame money/assets illegally. They camp spawn points, farm all the valuable monsters and such. Not only does this saturate the game with unearned money and items, it also makes it hard for honest people to make a buck.

If Sony is selling the assets, then they're stopping other people from making money off their game. Their also clearing up the game of all the "gil farmers" making it easier to make an honest buck.

I guess, in one sense, its just taking the lesser of two evils. Still ... I would rather a game that didn't have any sort of real money transaction be it illegal or legal. Not that its going to happen.

That just ruined this game for me. At least I don't need to make a choice between this and APB anymore.

So you know, I read the article.

The Agency - the spy-themed massively multiplayer action game being developed for PS3 and PC by Sony Online Entertainment - is to feature officially supported real money trading.

The announcement comes as part of a deal between SOE and real money trading specialists Live Gamer. Unsurprisingly, SOE's forthcoming family-friendly, free-to-play MMO Free Realms is also covered by the deal.

You need to read more carefully. They will use it.

Lol, again you didn't read the article properly. Reading comprehension -1.

You just quoted select parts of the story that spans a page, lol.

"We are actively exploring free-to-play and other revenue models, and always looking for new ways to engage and entertain gamers," he said.--

READ:

SOE has yet to reveal the business model for The Agency. Although EverQuest II proves that real money trading support does not necessarily mean a subscription-free game, the Live Gamer deal will certainly lead to speculation that the promising espionage MMO will go free-to-play.

Sorry man, but your an idiot. The article confirms the game will use RMT. The only speculation in the article is how it'll be used. And if the game will have a monthly fee.

So you know free-to-play means. No monthly fee.
