MotorStorm only "scratched the surface" of PS3

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at Sony's recent PlayStation Day Nigel Kershaw, MotorStorm Pacific Rift's game director, has revealed what it's like to develop for the PlayStation 3.

When asked if MotorStorm Pacific Rift is pushing the PS3 Kershaw said: "The first game pushed the PS3, this is pushing the PS3, our next game is going to push the PS3. It's not so much about pushing the hardware, it's about learning how to use the hardware in the best possible fashion."

He added: "We've realised we've just scratched the surface of what we could actually do with the machine. And I'm sure next time around we'll learn a lot more from MotorStorm Pacific Rift."

Don't you just love the developers that challenge themselves to learn new technology and push the boundries. There is amazing things in the future for the PS3 when more people like this work on it.

Well whenever they don't make the statement, a story comes up later named "Is this the true power of the Cell?? PS3 doomed?"..I'm glad they're re-confirming that there's more surprises in store for the console

the fact of the matter is the 360 showed its peak early on. It cant really do a whole lot more than gears 1. Sure gears 2 arguably looks better, but that difference is much more minimal compared to say, resistance 1 and 2. When you are making games on a windows pc machine, you as an educated programmer have been taught exactly how to program for PC. Sure theres memory optimizations that must be done as with all consoles, but the code itself is more similar to a PC than to PS3. The ps2 had the same effect. Launch PS2 games look nothing like the latest. Thats why there is a universal sigh of relief. If you look at launch PS3 games, its like "ouch, this thing that came a year after the 360 looks the same, and often worse". Now we all know better, weather or not you want to admit it.

Didn't they say this when they finished the first one? I loved Motorstorm 1 but can't say much of the same with what I've seen of Motorstorm 2, All I was expecting was a lot of mud, haven't seen 1 bit of it.

"Actually the first and second generation of games that we've seen on the PS3 are just people starting to learn how to make great games for it. It's a long race. Now that developers are starting to write their second or third game, they're starting to untap the power that's within there."
I think we all knew that, but there it is again. That's how it is with every launch set,as fishy fingers said, and really every second wave to a degree with something this complicated and new.

A game like MS could really push the ps3 to its limits. It take a rpg/action to push the ps3 to its limits. I know FF13 will and I know if square makes a FF14 on ps3 its going to be like the next coming of jesus.

7 - The 1st motorstorm...
only scratched the surface with content aswell. Such a basic game design, I was disappointed when I picked it up on launch. Looked amazing though!

I just hope that this new one is chock full of options, and race types and has a strong online offering.

My favorite destruction racer is still flatout and on 360 its a riot on live, all the mini games are ridiculously fun, but I am getting bored of it.

Here's hoping that this will be a stunner!!!

The first MotorStorm was gorgeous,MotorStorm Pacific Rift is looking awesome I just hope there is more mud in MotorStorm Pacific Rift like s1lens3 said.It's the unrealistic gameplay found in MotorStorm that makes MotorStorm such a fun game,It has become one of my most favorite racing games of all time,I can't wait to see what Evolution Studios can pull off the third time around,MotorStorm Pacific Rift=a day 1 must buy for me!;)
