Bad news on MGS movie PTA NOT directing..

Collider writes:

While I was flying back to Los Angeles tonight, it seems a crazy rumor hit cyberspace. What was it? How about Paul Thomas Anderson ("There Will Be Blood," Boogie Nights," "Magnolia") might be directing the "Metal Gear Solid" movie!

It seems the story originated on Kotaku, as they were at a press conference for the upcoming "Metal Gear" game and Konami's Aki Saito (who is handling the film negotiations) mentioned that Paul was interested.

Immediately, a number of sites picked up the rumor. Most wondered if he meant to say Paul W.S. Anderson. You know him…he makes movies that aren't as good...

Anyway, whatever Konami's Aki Saito meant to say is irrelevant, as I've emailed someone involved with the upcoming movie and they said the rumor about Paul Thomas Anderson is "completely false and ridiculous."

So there you have it. Sorry to be the one that puts the rumor to bed…as I love Paul's work and would absolutely pay to see what he'd do with the material. /quote

Many fans have already sworn not to watch this film unless PTA directs. Sony want's Kurt wimmer or the guy who does the resident evil films. Both are VERY bad directors.

Exactly. Good riddance. Did anyone really bother to look at PTA's Directing credits? Here:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm...

Do I really want the guy that directed Punch Drunk Love, Magnolia, and Boogie Nights directing Metal Gear Solid? Hell no.

I agree that those are excellent movies, but I still don't think he'd be a good Metal Gear director. There Will Be Blood is an excellent movie, I watched it just recently... but his movies are nothing like the vein that Metal Gear runs through. To me, being a good director doesn't necessarily mean any movie you make will be good. Can you imagine Martin Scorsese trying to do Die Hard? McClane would no longer give memorable lines just before shooting someone up or jumping off a building, but instead would sit down and give a treatise on his guilt and redemption. And then Robert DeNiro would show up for no reason as the same character he's been in practically every movie he's ever made.

Now if it were someone like James Cameron, it'd be a different story. He's not known for artsy and abstract movies, and likes to blow things up. But yet, you cannot say his movies are not also excellent.

Jim you aren't too bright. Of course they are great films...in their particular genre. And thinks for the asinine and incorrect statement where you presume, or should I say ASS U ME to know what movies I prefer. I can watch brain candy as much as the next person. I do like Sci-fi. Bladeruunner is the top of the list for me though, not Transformers. But I know Transformers was fun for what it was and I won't allow some self imposed form of idiotic cinematic snobbery to get in the way of said fun.

But I personally prefer Chambara. Particularly Kurosawa. The wind didn't blow in a shot unless he wanted it to.

Being a dramatic director with no experience shooting action, which will be required for this film, means having to rely too heavily on a Director of Photography. You need the personal experience for this film and he (PTA) doesn't have it.

I would rather see someone like Luc Besson or even Ridley Scott.

Unfortunately Screen Gems (Studio) is to blame, they in fact edited the fight scenes for content and eliminated some of the plotline by cutting more than half an hour from the film (which was later restored in the novelization). The original edit was more focused on Violet's desire toward her family and was suggestive of her being merely swept up in the government plot rather than the pro-active operative she appears in the theatrical release. The genetic mutation and her illness (and imminent death) were apparently parts of a secondary storyline.

Milla Jovovich was not pleased with the PG-rated release print, saying that she had been locked out of discussions of the film in the editing stages, and had not been allowed to see her own performance, which she felt, might have been improved if she had had some input. Kinda sucks though, because the movie had potential.

There's also an Ultraviolet anime in the works.

5 - Sony will mess this up
MGS is out of the resident Evil numetal soundtracked realm of shlockery.

It will be a sad day to have Kojima's mythology pooped on by some hack director who has no clue on how to make a decent film.

I'd rather have no moive than a sh!tty movie.
