UK CHARTS: GTA holds on to No.1; hits 1m sales

MCV reports that Rockstar's GTA IV has retained the top spot in the ChartTrack All Formats Chart for a second week – despite a massive 77 per cent drop in sales.

The record-breaking title still managed to outsell Nintendo's Wii Fit – which held onto second spot – by 4-to-1 in the week. The Nintendo title saw a sales drop of 48 per cent week-on-week.

Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 version of GTA widened its sales advantage over the PS3 version by accounting for 62 per cent of sales, compared to 55 per cent last week.

---ps3 is pretty close to xbox360 in sales.

-looks like ps3 is doing a whole a lot better in terms of software sales.

----Hardware and software sales will be up again in a June too.

The software sales are okay, the Xbox 360 is marginally ahead. In terms of hardware sales, PS3 is marginally ahead.

But its apparent which console will finish in last place in HW sales this generation. Last place in hardware=last on every developers mind. The 360 won't get FF, it wont get MGS, it wont get any of the most important third party games. Hell, who knows if it will even get the next GTA.

No one(who is reasonable) thought that GTAIV PS3 would outsell GTAIV 360. It was up for debate whether the 360 would sell more hardware than the PS3 because of lower price and exclusive content. No it appears that HW wise (which is THE only reason anyone but Rockstar should care about sales) that the PS3 has completely owned GTA. Now imagine a summer owned by MGS4, followed up by LBP SOCOM and Resistance 2, and possible Heavy Rain, 8 days, InFamous, the Agency, then FFXIII, GT5, KZ2, and God Of War III the next year. Those are ALL exclusives. Theres no where for the 360 to come back, its last chance was exclusive DLC for GTAIV and the PS3 laughed that off.

Not dead, but it is now totally insignificant in the console war. The PS3 is the Mercedes, while the Xbox360 is the Kia.
