they point of the download 5 times is so that u can download it again if u format or ur ps3 screws up on you. I had a really bad incident while back and let me just say that im on my fourth ps3 and have downloaded everything back. They won't say anything.

should've explained
first one just screwed up on me(collected dust while i was gone for summer leading to yellow blinking lights)
next two were sent back defective(not working properly) and personally i don't know whether it was sony or delivering company
i was very pissed but then the sony consumer report guy assured me that the chances of happening again are very slim. took his word and bam, playing my new awesome ps3

2.4 - i wonder since when sharing - stealing?
stupid americans..
soon you will have to buy same song for every family member, same movie for every family member since everyone must have it`s own copy - this is soo stupid.
buy same song for pc, buy same song for mp3, buy same song for mobile - why not just copy on mp3? because sharing - stealing.
p.s. oh wait, that guy below already bought 4 ps3 and going to buy one more, cool! Now buying 5!!! copies of SAME psn game for every ps3 is the best way to spend your money! This is soo cool! Not.

Well just in case anyone is still wondering, i did a quick search and this popped up. I remember the sharing article encouraging sharing popped up sometime when warhawk was released because it was the first game where sharing was diabled.
http://www.psxextreme.com/p...
As you can see in the article, it clearly say: "You can send that content to four other friends for that initial investment,"
That is coming straight from Jack Trenton. All i know is i have done it and sony said its ok so i won't be losing any sleep over it:D

Because it really is a cool feature. However they do need to drop the limit. 5 is too much. 3 download limit sounds fair. If people want to give away their other 2 downloads and their hard drive crashes or something then they have to buy it again if they didn't back up their ps3 data.

Well it is definitely against the EULA for the PSN store so yes Banning is possible and more likely the more account sharing becomes.
NDRM is also being extensively used now with 24hour account lockouts and single system access (Warhawk, Echochrome, GT5 Prologue)
http://www.scei.co.jp/ps3-e...
(you'll also notice you don't own anything purchased from the PSN store....)

Thanks for the info drop.
Please review the use restrictions associated with the content you purchased. The content may be played on up to 5 activated PLAYSTATION 3's at any one time
If I get it correct. The rescriction varies from game to game. So people have to check what is said from the developer about it.
Plus it sayd it 'may' be played instead of 'can' be played

LOL take a look at the "alternative" sources the multiaccount troll added..
the last one is the best as it claims at the end that the headline is BOGUS. The whole issue was pulled out of thin air and adding links that are 3 years old from BEFORE the system launch seems a little childish ...
a prime candidate for an exclusive open zone account

This seems like a load of rubbish.
Why would Sony build in to the DRM the feature to download a PSN title to 5 different PS3's if they didn't want us to use the feature!?
We have two PS3's in our household. I bought a load of PSN titles, and I downloaded them to both the PS3's. The reason being I use both. The fact that other people who also use those PS3's can play some of the PSN titles is not my problem... It's a feature Sony built in.
To suggest people will be banned for doing this is patently absurd. If Sony have done a U-Turn and don't want people sharing the games, they could easily modify the DRM and patch the games to ensure they were linked to one PSN account, and one PS3.

When you press 'Triangle' over a game that you have bought with another account thats not your, you can see a message that say:
Other people, that are not the owner, can use this content, but if the original owner will be deleted, you cannot use anymore this content.
I think this guy was banned due to the Home Beta Leak (XML redirect method) a lot of my friends that have take the beta was banned.

That's the situation on the PS3 itself:
example: 2 PSN id's on one PS3, A and B
A downloads game
B can play it
A is deleted
B can't play anymore
According to the article there are several people banned for sharing the CoD maps, this has nothing to do with that message.

1 - Tired of Hearing Misinformation
I didn't get to read all reasponses.. But this is just BS..
http://www.wired.com/gaming...
Mr. Tretton's quote.
If a player logs into his PlayStation 3 account on a friend's system, he can download any game he has already purchased. "You can send that content to four other friends for that initial investment," said Tretton. "We want to get the game in as many hands as possible."
Anyway....
1) Your "account" can be assigned on up to 5 different PS3s that YOU have access to..
2) The default agreement on downloads allow you to install your account's purchases on all 5 machines it is assigned to so that all users on them can play it..
3) So it is clear, the 5 limit on purchased items are not a per item basis!!!!!! It is a per account basis!! That's where people get confused.
5) Each purchased item can be downloaded as many times as wanted to each of the 5 systems your account is assigned to..
4) If you decided to assign your account to 5 machines and one of them dies, Go Luck Getting Sony To Switch That Account To The New Machine so you can re-install the games on your new PS3. [So in other words, it is not in you're best interest to share with a lot of people.. If you're machine dies and you used up the 5 limit, you may have just lost your games!!]
Note: Some games put extra restrictions like Warhawk where you can install it on 5 machines, but the owner is the only one that can play it and a 24 hour limit when switching between machines.
Several people have pointed to the new TOS saying it now makes sharing bad.. But that's not what it is saying..
* You may not sell, buy, trade, or otherwise transfer your Online ID or any personal access to PSN through any means or method, including by use of web auction sites
This was added to stop websites whos only purpose was to share accounts.. So, if you go to your friends house, you can add (or log into if already added) your account to their PS3 if wanted.. But, on the other hand, you can NOT email or call someone and give out your info so they can add (or log into if already added) your account to share a purchased item..
Anyway, if Sony was putting a stop to it, why would their own knowloege base tell you how to do it.. Look at the update date on it also.. :)
http://playstation.custhelp...
This is from Sont's own knowledge base.. "How do I access my purchased PLAYSTATION®Store content from a different location, such as my friend's PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system?"
