God Of War III To Feature Online Play?

Eagle-eyed reader Byron has pointed us towards a job listing on SCEA's website, for an "Online Gameplay Programmer", who will "join the team behind the critically acclaimed AAA titles "God of War" and "God of War II." Interesting, interesting. That doesn't say online programmer, it says online gameplay programmer. Anyone for a Kratos v Kratos battle for loin-cloth supremacy?

Finally some news can come out of this N4G GTA4 madness.

GOW is a fantastic series but after chains, i have to admit the game was getting a little stale. The next logical evolution is to take things online. Don't know how it will work thats not my problem but SCEA better make this happen

After the ending of God of War 2 I was thinking that maybe some kind of RTS gameplay would be integrated in part 3. Like maybe Kratos being the commander of the titan army. Come on Sony, Make another AAA title.

It would be interesting to see how they implement this. From playing the first two GOW I never pictured online play as something that could fit the franchise.

I hope they pull it off though, since this is one game I will be buying without question.

Just like GTA's multiplayer is awesome with the whole city available to play- that blew my mind. I am sure that SCEA will be able to come up with something just as fitting.

Lets hope its something AMAZING:D. This has been my number 1 wish for the series i hope they have something special planned. Even if its just random smash bros type combat i don't care. SCEA better make it happen.

it wouldn't really matter much to me. i'm still not big on playing every game online.

i still haven't played GTA4 online yet. i probably will after a few months but i'm not that excited about playing online now. i'm more interested in the single-player mode.

exactly what i was thinking, its a great series, but is online really something for it? i dont think so, i would rather them hit the nail on the head and knock it out of the park with graphics, gameplay and story, especially with david jaffe not on the team anymore.

Thats a very good point. This game is not fit for multiplayer. It's heavily reliant on a good story and other things that already make it amazing. Adding multiplayer will destroy the game and confirm my worst fears: Developers are shoveling multiplayer modes in games because they feel it is the standard. games are different. Uncharted was a strong single player that sold well. It didnt need a multiplayer. I wouldnt mind downloadable content.

5 - Why must every game feature online play?
Is it really that necessary to have a tacked-on MP mode? Because that's what we get in the majority of games out right now. There are few next-gen titles that actually do multiplayer the way it should be done.

Perhaps a good idea but a no no from me. This game is and should be a single player game. The logical way, imo, is not to go online but to enhance what already is there and add new elements to the game such as: more freedom to do things your way and not be forced into linear play, more environmental interactivity and side missions. Things like these are what should be of utmost concern.

God of War does not need Online Play....they need to focus on the Single player aspect of the game....and make sure they Tie up all the lose ends....in the story...

Not every game needs online but games need to evolve. If SCEA feels they can get some reasonable online gameplay out of GOW then by all means make it happen. It won't be taking away from the sp of the game because that is off course where the game shines but coming into next gen, they have to make a big splash and i think an online mode does that pretty effectively

OK..fair enough..but games like these don't need online play I just can't see how they're gonna tie online play to a game like this.

But as some said said probably as an RTS version in online mode...

guess we'll see....just give us achievements and im fine....if I want online...Warhawk never disappoints

mod support, if they are struggling to come up with online ideas, people think of: areana fights, co-op, or something else. But imagine if it had mod support and you could create your own God of War that could challenge Kratos and the Gods also, or just make something kick @ss.

Not every game needs multiplayer. The new MGO is pushing it. You play the game and you realize it really has little connection to the actual single player - the meat of the game. But really, MGO is kind of a gimmick. It has potential, but you wouldn't buy MGS4 just to play it online.

I'm sure that they could make an awesome online for GOW, but I would rather see them spend their time making the story mode as great as they can make it. Personally, I'd like to see them focus on the RPG elements a little more. Imagine a 3-D Castlevania:Symphony of the Night, but GOW style.

Whatever the online component of GOW will be, I'm sure it will have little in common w/ the actual Single Player. The devs would just be better off making a standalone title, one that wouldn't be held back by the constraints of having to cater to the God of War universe.

This is the problem that MGO suffers from. The graphics look good, the skill system is inventive and the levels are cool, but the shooter element is kind of weak and the stealth element is not fleshed out enough. It has a Socom/Gears feel to it but it's trapped using the MGS gameplay conventions which are better suited towards Single Player.

and I doubt it anyway. It could be for a whole different game and getting the online programmer... this late in the dev process (we all know its been in development since the end of 2)

Not always, I pre-order from Amazon.com and they usually give me a $3-$5 discounts on pre-orders and they don’t charge me until 3 days before the game is released, there is no scam in that, but I don’t know about Gamestop, never bought anything from them.

I had this cool idea, that there can be an arcade mode in God of War 3, like you can choose any boss from the God of War series and play as him in one on one combats against different bosses, would be cool:P
& you can also have more levels or Challenges as DLCs. Would be epic.
I love God of War series. Its the best damn action/adventure game I have ever play.
