Interview: Madden NFL 09 - PS3 Version at 60 FPS

GameTap are eating steak in 30 Rock's famed Rainbow Room with players like Brett Favre and Matt Hasselbeck sitting just a table away, but all they can think of is one thing -- Madden NFL 09. Then again, it's difficult not to be thinking Madden when the new Favre cover is basically plastered on every wall and even hangs in Times Square.

That's why after lunch they caught up with one of the game's lead designers, Phil Frazier, as he filled them in on a variety of new features including Adaptive AI, bobble catches and online leagues. GameTap has the scoop.

It took 3 versions of Madden to hit 60fps on the 360 (06-08) and now 3 versions to hit 60 fps on the PS3 (07-09) but nobody wanted to listen last year.

Im one of the Biggest haters of EA...but If they can deliver on 60fps on Ps3.. and these online leagues arent some cheap 1 day tourny.. It mite just persuade me to buy it..

also if they fix the blitz problem and magic DB problem... Oh and the WR jet boots problem.. That would help to

It took them 2 Maddens to get 60 fps on the 360 version
Madden 06 & Madden 07 (30 fps)

And took them 2 Maddens to get 60 fps on the PS3 version
Madden 07 & Madden 08 (30 fps)

If 09 was going to be 30 fps on the PS3 then I think we would have had a problem here lol

Meh. Improve character models, lighting, grass, any other graphical feature to make it look next gen for once and then we're talking. Hated the player shadows, thought the character models were lifeless, and thought the stadiums were cheap. Madden 08 looked like crap on both the 360 and PS3; only difference was whether that crap was running at 30fps or 60fps.

I was a hard core madden lover but when I first bought my Playstation 3 to play madden in HD I was soooooo disappointed that I decided to never play madden again. My reasons

1) The playstation 2 controls are not implemented in there there is not options what so ever to do so.

2) I realized the playstation 2 version is what I loved

3) I cant believe you would release such less quality for the PS3 version.

All I have to say it hurts that I had such high expectations and was let down so hard.

Well now all I play is NBA 2k8 I am a fan of 2k Sports.

If you're a football fan, this franchise actually improved this year. The new player models are tigh, better AI, multiple animations for better control, controlable endzone celebrations, and online leagues. Pretty good really. This is a must buy for me.

madden 09 needs to step up big time... forget the xbox 360 build.... build on the ps3.. honestly.... if it was a ps3 build it'll be a tighter game... the control will feel better.. i mean the graphics will even be better.... plus the 60fps.... you can't loose with it.... ea needs to steup up their game... stop settling with old gen technology

KZ2 looks like upping the bar again... as Uncharted did when it was released, like R&C F:TOD etc.

These games were not on launch... R:FOM was great, Resistance 2 will be better...

EA's first games was OK, newer ones better... So they take time to understand a new platform... as they did with the XB360, PS2, why should PS3 titles be like end of life titles for other consoles right at start?

anyone know when they might bring back the career records? thats one huge feature for me online play is great but sometime you just wanna play the career mode on madden try make your guy the best but one things been missing from that part of the game for a good long wile thats the career records id like to take my guy and beat what ever records i can i mean i miss trying to beat the rushing passing defence sacks records or what ever postion your guy is playing i hope they bring that back someday in the near future.
