Infinity Ward Wants COD Exclusively, 3rd-person COD Coming?

Word has begun spreading around, originating from Next-Gen.Biz, about Infinity Ward potentially looking to secure exclusive development of the Call of Duty franchise. As many COD fans should know, the games were originally spearheaded by the gang at Infinity Ward, as the first two games were developed by the team. Following COD2, Treyarch took the responsibilities of COD3, in addition to a few spin-offs, while Infinity Ward began work on Call of Duty 4.

I love 3rd Person Perspective; but IF it's modern day and IF it's 3rdPerson, THEN isn't it just basically SOCOM?

Well, if you keep up with Socom, then you will know all of the little things that make Socom great. This game would not be any Socom, especially if Respawn is the "main" way to play.

Every single button in the game is used in COD. It's made for FPS. If it's third person then things will have to change. And if you change the controls in COD4 then everything falls apart.

Graphics are a small part of IW's success...it's the perfect controls and the balanced gameplay. I'm also worried about IW cranking out COD's every year...surely quality will suffer.

who develops COD5 or any game after. If they don't fix the network issues I don't think I would buy the game again. I mean really ... the match making sucks. The lag sucks. The support sucks. The patch sucked (at least for PS3). No interest in putting Rumble in. The mic system sucks. There is a total lack of a friend making system (ala RFOM). One can't even invite people they just saw (ala RFOM). All of this coupled with the fact that they made money hand over fist with COD4.

This is all kinda sad too since I loved the game at it's core. It's one of the best and most fun times I've had playing a FPS. All of the fun has just worn off though. The game is literally a pain in the ass to play at times.

XMB will fix some of them but, they way COD4 is set up, I can't invite someone to a party unless they are friends on my PSN. RFOM let you invite anyone and had a separate friends list apart from the PSN. Then there is the lag issue. XMB ain't fixen that. Nor will it fix the a host leaving the game. The patch was SUPPOSED to fix that but never did. The support that activision and IW are giving COD4 is abysmal at best.

Honestly ... it really does upset me too. I really love playing. I just get so frustrated sometimes. Some of these issues have to be fixed before I ever buy another COD game again.

compared to cod2 and cod4.. I got hooked on cod2 on the 360.. great multi player game.. Cod4 is better though..

so let IW have it because trytech or whatever screwed things up..

People fail to see the long term consequences of this. IW usually has 2 years to work on a COD. If they take full control, they will probably be forced to crank out one per year. Activision knows that COD has become a huge name in gaming, so they will definitely cash in on it, like with Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk. With no Treyarch to fill in the gap, IW will eventually turn COD into Madden. In fact, we can already see the downward spiral Guitar Hero is taking, and we have seen Tony Hawk basically hit rock bottom. If IW takes over, I have no doubt that it will eventually follow this pattern.

if confrontation ends up being great, then we will see...but I am not getting too excited for it yet...the early screens did not look very promising...liked the originals though...

I kind of agree...CoD 3 wasn't horrible...but IW sometimes acts like it doesn't belong in the series...CoD 4 is fantastic mostly becuase of the whole modern theme...

I didn't find Cod 1 or 2 that amazing though...fun campaigns, fun online...but not way ahead of everything else available (return to castle wolfenstein toasted every WWII game online imo anyway)...its not like 1 and 2 were totally better than CoD 3...3 just didn't change a whole lot

totally agree...its hard for me to pinpoint why CoD 4 is so addictive...its not overly realistic, but not unrealistic either...

but I owned both previous IW endeavors on PC...and was never that enthralled with either...great games, as in great production value and everything...but nothing that had me recommending them to everyone...nor enough to be 9 days deep in the multiplayer...
