A Cry for Home

It's an interesting situation: by keeping the current version of Home locked behind a closed beta Sony have managed to raise hype levels to massive highs. Updates aren't advertised, known features are kept to a minimum and the enigma around just what's behind those doors is just too enticing to contain. Home is set to revolutionise the way we think of consoles, chat and social gaming, yet very few people have access to the system and even fewer are willing to talk about it.

my favorite feature would be the arcade machine. I hope they have lots of arcade games.

the arcade machines are one of the things i comment on the most on to sony in my beta reports.

the way it is now, there are about 4 differnt arcade games and you've never heard of any of them. they don't save your top score either so after a few plays you probably won't bother much.

i've requested for more well-known arcade games and saved game scores. i also requested that games on the HDD bought from the PSN should be able to be loaded into the arcade machines. that way you can play SuperstarDustHD or PS1 titles in the Gsmespace and never have to leave Home at all. i've also requested that we'll be able to have arcade machines in our personal Home Space.

if you guys have any request i'd love to pass it on. EZ i know i passed a few of yours to them.

I agree totally, Sony is making such a giant hype out of this!

And a great thing that is, too. When Home is released, sales are going to skyrocket.

I'm sure it'll be out before May. Hopefully to god it's next week!

i know what your saying but by hype they MIGHT mean building up suspense, they want you to want it badly and thats hype enough for now, if they do more at the moment ppl will get get pissed that its not coming out.

They are mentally preparing us for home :)

Its sort of sonys fault about the hype. They should just quickly release it before the hype becomes even greater and then while its out upgrade it so it becomes more of what the full potential of it was expected.

I sort of agree with you, The longer they wait to release Home the more people expect more from it. It's a very ambitious project I just hope Sony add alot of things to keep people coming back to Home so it always stays fresh.

They should have live events and live game scores and places you can go to play kickball or something. I think you should always feel like there's something going on in Home even if your chilling in your apartment. I think Home will start off slow but can grow into something big.

Its the opposite with me. I've lost hype for this network expansion, or "game." Why? They're about to release HOME 2-3 seasons (8-10 months) late from the ORIGINAL release date of last fall. I was hyped last year when they announced home on last years E3. Are we going to see it unreleased for this years E3 as well?

I've officially lost interest.

Wake me up if HOME is a success.

Home sounds cool, Im just confused why its appropriate for a gaming console. I dont doubt people will use it, but unless its unbelievably stupendously awesome, will people be actively involved in it a year from its launch?

see me using it all the time from meeting up with friends in a warhawk room to start a game or for clan meetings and what not. Or going to some one else's home and checking out what kind of videos pictures they have on their PS3(I think thats in home)or just talking too/challenging random people. You also get the option to just play the game without even going into home which is cool.

I'm sick of people this gen claiming Sony or other companies of overhyping when they're actually not saying anything.

How is it over hype to tell you nothing.

Magazines, website, forums, gamers, blogger are doing all the hype. If you raise the bar to high in your head and Home doesn't quite reach their it will be your own faults.

I swear, you're probably the same people who will complain Killzone 2 was overhype when in realty all they've done was release 2 trailers and a bit of gameplay footage in 3 years. They couldn't have hyped it any less. Any less and you wouldn't even know it exist. I suppose Wardevil, 8 days and The Getaway are all over hyped too.

I gotta see it for myself, but, honestly, Im not all that impressed. It has a couple cool features, like listening to music/movies together, but it seems like its basically a glorified menu system, possibly a bit too complicated for its own good. My question is, how complicated is it to navigate through different things? If I want to play a game, am I going to have to go "walk" somewhere?

It may be really cool, I may really like it, but for now Im not sure...

I thought that what would make HOME a killer app is if they integrated the whole thing in the XMB (somehow). I think that ease of access is the way to go. Just look at the playstation store, HWO-HAHA!!

Yeah thats my exact thoughts...

I really hope home is good but as it stands im not holding my breath.

I really would like to see the online gaming aspect to be improved but If its case of having to walk to another building a few mins away would it not just be quicker to use a menu?

I hope im wrong and missunderstand that aspect of it mind

14 - Sony being so secretive and behind schedule
has totally made me lose interest in HOME. Sure, I'll mess with it when it eventually drops, but I doubt I'll keep on heading back months after release. I would much rather have in game xmb so I can stream music from my computer to my ps3 in game like i can on my 360.

I understand that SONY wants to make sure they get it right especially going up against LIVE. Personally, I think SONY should have waited on even mentioning this service until it was much further along in production.

At this point, it will take a lot to match or exceed the hype and expectations that have been set in this long silenced wait.
