41
Great news for those who couldn't get to grips with Lair's motion controls: the patch for analog flight controls is now live, and also brings crosshairs as a menu option. The patch is 147MB, and is up now for European Lair owners.

I actually think Lair is cool. You just couldn't control the damn thing.
Now, I'll actually beat this game.

sigh. Lair could have been a great game. If they had let me get off that dragon for some hand to hand combat with some of those useless troops. The dragon combat is STUPID. Flying side to side and slamming yourself into the dragon. WTF is that. The dragon also appears to breathe fire like a machine gun. Lairs faults go beyond sixaxis use. It was a good effort from factor 5 but sorry didn't work out. Better luck next time

I see you weren't even playing Lair properly and got fraustrated or have been mislead by some game-site vids.
You can't play Lair like it's a shooter cause it's not. Spamming fire balls aren't potent and don't do much at all. You have to tap the fire button at 1second intervals for proper potent fire balls.
You can obivusly see the difference in size and how you can take out a ship with just two balls but if you spamm your fireballs they do virtually nothing to alot of enemies and they'll pwn you.
Just play the game how its supposed to be played and you'll have a better experience.

I picked up Lair on launch. I still have it and it never gathered dust. I learned early on the one thing you need to learn to do in order to play Lair -leave the damn sticks alone.
While I welcome a control scheme that makes it more friendly to a larger audience, the biggest issue from which this game suffered was intentional bad press generated by people out to sabotage one of the big early games on the PS3. It worked. And it wasn't the last game to suffer from a negativity campaign.
There is a reason a superior next gen game like Ratchet and Clank was never given due credit.

9 - Any word...
...on when this patch will go live for the North American market? I've had Lair since it came out and i thought the controls were OK, except for the dash and 180. I can't wait to get my hands on this patch and finish this highly underrated title. So yea, any word on when this patch will go live for North America? *crosses fingers*

15 - There was a lot of things I liked about Lair
first off the concept of fire breathing dragons full of scales is just plain cool to me.
That's where you either like the concept or not.
I also liked some of the melodies, especially the part in the night, where you have to sneak in an avoid spotlights. It has a cool slow ambient orchestra.
If only you could control yourself in the game better, it would of been an average game with a cool concept.
But the way it was, it was just a broken game. So yeah, I'm gonna play this game again now with this patch.

sigh, if they had just delayed the game a month or two to tweak some features the game could've risen above into the 80s on Metacritic
and the analog controls really should've been there from the off

16.1 - Yeah, that's where you're wrong
And just because you like something doesn't mean everyone else has to.
That's like me calling someone like you ignorant for not liking a game that I love.
Open up your mind and you'll realize that people have different opinions.
Not that I feel the need to prove myself to someone on the internet, but I can easily recall specific moments in the game that were downright horrible. And none of them involved controls. Yes, believe it or not I ACTUALLY owned the game, and so did many others that hated it.
In fact, sometimes I wonder how many of you "Lair Lovers" actually owned the game.

16.2 - I'm with EZ on this one...
I was one of the few really exited about this game... I bought it and my first thought was: Hey controls aren't as bad as they said..
Then when I stared playing the first level while flying over the city and over the sea watching the sunset... I said: WOW this game is stunning, music is great and controls are actually cool.
Then after some more levels I stared to noticed that controls were the least of LAIR problems. Framerates were awful in big action sequences, The controls got a bit frustrating in some cases, Radar was terrible, Dragon fights weren't as cool as I thought it would been.
Bottom line is, I really was hoping for LAIR to be awesome and I really really tried to like it, but I just couldn't.
I returned it in a week.

Kudos to Hatchetforce. I was turned off Lair due to ALL the negativity and overall pathetic scores. It baffled me how a developer such as Factor 5 went from making consistant AAA games like Rogue Squadron to a 5/10 game that didn't stray away too far from a genre they excelled at. Low and behold, I rented the game a few months back, and found it was a great little title that after a 5 minute learning curve, controlled quite well.
And I bought Ratchet and Clank without hesitation (even though the crap site that is GS scored it a criminal 7.5) and I was not let down. It is the best in the series, and the best platformer on all next gen consoles. It is AT LEAST as good as Mario IMO. The only people who would disagree are either Sony haters or scarily infatuated Mario fanboys.
Either way, the realisitic scores for PS3 games so far goes like this:
Ratchet = 9
Resistance = 9 (9.5 for online)
Lair = 8
Unchartered = 9.5
Motorstorm = 9.5
All the above games minus Lair are AAA games without doubt...And Lair is AA, if you are a true gamer and give the game a chance. It's funny that Wii gets praised it's similar control interface, yet Lair requires the same kind of co-ordination and learning curve...yet it is smashed for trying something new.
And all the naysayers about sixaxis are tools, as Unchartered, HS, Ratchet and Lair all put them to great use and prove their medal.

Grand Theft Auto 3 to S.A. had some of the worst shooting mechanic controls of any 3rd person game..Even Syphon Filter on PS1 had a better system in place all them years before. Yet people still love GTA series.
From GTA3 to S.A. this failed to be mentioned in reviews mostly, and even if it was, never affected the overblown scores.
