Sonic Unleashed finally confirmed by Sega

Sega has officially confirmed that an all-new Sonic title is on its way to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PlayStation 2. Just in case you didn't see the leaked screenshots from last week.

"By combining rich and vibrant scenery with dynamic viewpoints Sonic Unleashed will provide an immersive 3D experience whilst keeping alive the 2D gameplay elements and fantastic worlds that Sonic fans know and love" beams Gary Knight from Sega.

"In addition to this classic Sonic gaming experience, when darkness sets in Sonic Unleashed players will be able to experience a completely new way to play as Sonic."

The funny thing about Mario and Sonic is that it got really low rating but it became one of the highest selling games on Wii.

That just shows how important casual (softcore) gamers are in this market.

About damn time someone uses day/night cycles for gameplay again. I hope it's tied to the system's clock, that hasn't happened since Metropolis Street Racer afaik.

Sega used weather info in the recent NiGHTS release for the Wii, but I'm not sure if day/night cycles were used at all.

MSR = my favorite Dreamcast racer.

I forgot about that, thanks DubC. I thought that was pretty innovative when they did it. Using the clock to control the game's time has been in every system since the Dreamcast yet hardly any games use it. You could in MGS3 to bypass The End etc. but not much else. I hope more developers pick up on that, and if Sonic Team pulls it off for this game it might be the first Sonic game I've cared about since SA2. Until the Bioware game hits.

SEGA said in e3 2006 (I think) that Sonic the hedgehog 2006 (360 and PS3) will use the day and night feature and showed it off in their demo but then in the final game it was removed for some reason.

I hope Sonic Unleashed will finally enlighten this franchise.

Not at all, Sonic Team has some respect to earn back since Naka left. IMO they haven't made a good Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2. The Dimps games on DS were awesome though and Bioware's of course looks outstanding. Looks like they want to rectify their mistakes with this one and add something fresh to boot, if they can keep the gun toting animals and pseudo beastiality out of it then we might be onto something.

I hope this brings back the Glory days of Sonic. With it only having Tails and Knuckles as Sonics buddies that is great news. Plus why can't Sega change Eggmans name back to Dr. Robotnic. Even if the Japanese version has Eggman I would still like to see Dr.Robotnic for the US version.

Who cares? I mean seriously.. the only way sonic will survive is if he is in a supporting role.. Sonic is like tom arnold and John goodman.. Crap in a starring role.. but put them next to jeff bridges and Arnold shwarznager and they are great.. Sonic isnt a star.. hes a role player

If this game doesn't have as many Loading times as the last Sonic on the 360 and the PS3, I will give this one a try.
I hope they give us a story line that will make us feel like we want to continue playing to see what the ending is like. I use to love Sonic back in the day. If they can make me care about the characters again then this will be a very good game.

I have to say I'm a bit excited about this one. With them going back to 2D gameplay, day/night gameplay being differen, I think this Sonic is going to be good honestly.
