Assassin's and BIA delayed

In a statement, Ubisoft said, "[The launch of GRAW 2] will take the place of Assassin's Creed and Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway, which will now strengthen fiscal year 2007-08," which runs from April 2007 through March 2008.

That info implies that the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed was planned for an early 2007 release, even though it was always tagged with a "TBA" release date. Hell's Highway was expected to be released in the first quarter of 2007. Both games are in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

I actually am happy to see these two delayed. It gives my wallet a break..I mean I am looking at the holiday coming and I plan on getting: GOW, COD3, Rainbow 6 and just picked up SC:DA. Lets not forget about Half-Life 2FEAR. Seriously...thats over $300 in games...and there are plenty more I want...these are just the shooters i want. LOL

Halo 3. Any self respecting pub will not launch a FPS close to Halo 3. If AC launch first quater 07 then BIA would be 2nd to 3rd.

I am curious if MS will fix GRAW 2 as an 360 exclusive.

If you see how the original GRAW sold on 360 and is one of the main titles on it and a very strong tactical shooter (unlike COD2/3 although also sold many, it's different. COD is just a shooter, where GRAW just was outstanding on taking cover and just being next gen).

I am curious if MS will try to get it 100% exclusive

The first GRAW was good but the only reason I bought it was because there really had not been anything worth getting since the 360 release. Unless it releases with not much competition releasing with it I dont see myself grabbing it. Assasins Creed was high on my must have list, GRAW wont make the list.

10 - i think its because the user base of next gen gamers is very small

.... specifically the ps3's. add to that with fears that sony is having problems with producing enough consoles for european launch and you are looking at a very small install base considering these are high profile games

i am waiting for hell's highway so bad....i love this serie! i think its by far the best ww2 games of all....as long as assasin's creed goes...i'm not sure since i didnt see any gameplay yet,so i dont know how it looks and play's!

isn't BIA a WWII fps? if so then i'm good: i just don't do WWII fps, unless its Resistance. sucks for Assassins Creed though, as it was one of my most awaited games. but i guess GRAW 2 can assuage AC's delay. last i heard was that GRAW 2 was coming to both the PS3 and the 360. wonder if thats still true?

It's sad to hear Assassins' Creed get stomped to the ground like this.

I have a feeling it's a victim and a leftover of a war between Sony and MS. Something happened there leaving burned bridges or they just lost support from either if not both sides.

Possibly Sony got pissed first when they did not reach agreement on timed exclusive and MS followed when they could not claim the exclusivity? Pure speculation.

I really wanted AC and BIA:HH both looked great, but now with the delay who knows when we will see them, Think about this, MS had first said that they were going to bring Halo3 out right around the same time as the PS3 launch. Then they said “naw we will bring it out when it’s ready”, which really means that it would better suit us to bring it latter, maybe around Christmas 07. Why, because that is when all the systems will line up at the starting line together.

Now don’t get me wrong. What I’m trying to say is that Christmas 07 there should be no hardware shortages for any console and there will should be no major bugs for any console(I.e. overheating issues and such) So you will see a games system have to stand on THE GAMES.

Ok so both systems will get mostly the same games so what is left? You guessed it, the first party exclusives. My guess is that you will see Halo3 come out right about November time frame. Which means we only have about one year to get out all of these games?

Now if we take into consideration that publishers like to give some breathing room in-between games you really only have about 6-8 months to get out AC, BIA:HH, and Halo3. Wait let’s not forget LP, MA, Bioshock, Huxley. So if you want all of those games to do well you will need to control your portfolio very tightly.

I will break this up cause its getting long!

If it goes down like this then you will have only 4 months to get GRAW2 ready to ship. And you only have about 2 months average between each release of the titles that I listed. That’s really not that much time between triple A games. I believe that developers would want to get as much money out of each game as possible. Offering this many good looking games within this short period of time just doesn’t make good business sense. Plus you still have to fit in LP,MA, Bioshock, Huxley, I mean even if you added one game a month you customers would be overwhelmed. Games just wouldn’t get bought and as a publisher you don’t want to be in the stores at the same time as Halo3 let’s just be real about that.

Wow I even forgot R6:LV too much to play, too little time!

On a side note not to start a flame. (or spark)

But am I the only one that looks at MS line up and thinks dang there are a lot of FPS or TPS (because they are pretty much the same thing) coming out. When I bought my Xbox I felt like it was a one trick pony for a long time cause the only quality games they were putting out were FPS (don’t just say "they had other games too" I know that if you are to respond name them, thank you) but it just seem like they could just do better. I would like to see some innovation in some other directions like GTA style/sandbox, more in racing/racing sim’s, more in Air Combat, more in RTS, more in RPG, and so forth. Just a thought.

16.2 - I'm not concerned...

Assuming RPGs such as Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and the others announced at the TGS come to the US, the 360 will have a diverse selection of genres. Also, there is Mass Effect and Bioshock (a shooter that seems to be more along the lines of a Deus Ex).

I love shooters as much as the next guy, but when consumers become more dicriminate with their purchases, we will see new gameplay that will keep the genre fresh. I think we are already seeing this trend. For example the over-the-shoulder view is becoming increasingly popular - (and will thankfully be used in MGS4) - allowing for cover and more tactical play, while maintaining good aiming mechanics.
Also - Command and Conquer 3 has been announced for the 360 - LOTR:BFME2 showed that a console can successfully handle a RTS game.

Of course the simple, albeit expensive option is to buy multiple platforms - then variety is guaranteed!

See that is what I am talking about assuming the we get Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey what if we don’t.(I don’t think it will happen but)and as for Command and Conquer 3 it has been announced for the 360 but isn’t out yet and LOTR:BFME2 did show that a console can successfully handle a RTS game but it did nothing innovative.

On a different note, I couldn’t even call it a great RTS. Could you? Did you buy it? Truthfully?

I’m not saying that the X360 can’t do it just that as of “Right Now” they haven’t done it.

My thing is as of right now the X360 represents a shooters console, no to be specific a FPS/TPS console (when I say TPS I am referring to the over-the shoulder view games as well). They have other games but just not with the innovativeness that I am looking for. I liked DR great game all of the people on the screen at once, open ended environment, could pick up just about anything. But it was like a “diamond in the ruff”. I need more games like that; they push the limits and not just some cookie cut from the tried and true. I’m not worried but still, I think this is why a lot of people wait.

I hate the fact the AC got pushed back for GRAW2, that just shows that they want GRAW2 out to boost sales because AC is a different type of game, Action Stealth. And maybe they aren’t sure how it will do? (I don’t know why they would think that)

Lastly you are right the simple course is to get both systems. But with systems as expensive as they are some will have to choose one at the end of the day.

16.4 - Well...

I do own LOTR:BFME2 for the 360, and I am quite happy with it. Does it control as well as C&C, StarCraft or Warcraft on a PC? Of course not, but I guess I see the LOTR game as a great starting point for future console RTS games - my "diamond in the rough", and that is innovation in itself. Besides, my laptop cannot handle the newer games, so the 360 was my only chance to play this game. (I'll buy a PS3 before I get a new computer)

Regarding the announcement on AC and GRAW2, I'm unsure of what to think. It is tempting to think that it is because GRAW2 will be a guaranteed hit and produce big profits, but Ubisoft is a strong company with a huge lineup this holiday season with SC:DA, R6:Vegas and a bunch of Wii titles(which they might be unsure about). So I would think that they would be confident with launching a very promising new IP next spring. What will be interesting to see is the quality of GRAW2 - if it is truly new, or just new levels - more of an expansion. (Loved the first one, BTW)

I agree that there is a lack of innovation nowadays, but it is primarity due to the huge costs of producing a game - the new Game Informer has a good article about this. New IPs are risky - bottom line. So we get three versions of Ninja Gaiden and Half-Life 2.

The good news is they will have a DR2 - as it has sold very well - unlike some other innovative games. Companies will have to turn out new products, or we will get bored and spend our entertainment dollars elsewhere.

And lastly, the key is patience. It seems many great games see delays. I thought last Dec. 25th was going to be an Oblivion and Zelda:TP Christmas. Turns out it was an Oblivion May 06 birthday and THIS Christmas will have Zelda:TP. Here's hoping Mass Effect and Bioshock don't see any further delays!
