considering motorstorm is an exclusive and has sold the most copies thats just incredible. its obvious that a multiplatform has a greater chance but when an exclusive has numbers like that???especially since the ps3's install base is just starting to catch up thats incredible

Sold 4 million not too long ago...For comparisons sake, it seems 360 has sold more games and has more 1 million plus sellers. It has been out longer thus selling more consoles...but still seems to sell more software in general. Disagree if you want, I have 5 PS3 games.

You went from Old School Cool to flat out Tool.

Yeah it was in a bundle but its not like it was the only SKU available and everyone had to get it. Its not like it was in every PS3 pack like Wii Sports is with Wii. It was a limited deal and if you didn't want the game you could still buy a PS3 without it.

The only humiliating thing here is how you pose as a gamer and cant give a little credit to this game for selling to more than a 1/4 of its overall userbase, a feat only the 3 bestsellers on Xbox has done.

MGS 3 sold only 3.9 million copies altogether(catering to a 120 million PS2 fanbase). MGS 2 had the best sales with 7 million copies sold.

Considering the PS3 has an install base of around 11 million users, selling 2 million copies in 1 day is short of impossible. To make a comparison, Halo 3 sold 3.3 million copies in 12 days. And although I believe MGS4 will be a better game in many ways, Halo 3 had lots more hype than MGS4.

you're talking about the US again, right? erm...I'm in Europe...it's not so big here...has it even sold a million copies here?
I know it's the xbox saving grace, and credit is always due to a game that keeps a console afloat...ff7/tekkon 2/mgs 2 etc.. but we got it around the time pes was being released i think and even though that was a completely broken game on the ps3, it sold 2 million very quickly...not to mention fps and japan public don't seem to go together...
Mgs 4 is pretty much being hyped rock solid...here, and in japan...only GT 5 Prolouge and GTA seem to hold up to that...

good games keep selling ala motorstorm whilst hype over substance games sell quick then fall off. By your own logic if halo 3 sold 3 mill in 3 weeks then it should of sold 5 times that amount or more by now. The reason it hasn't is because it really wasn't that great or far removed from its predecessor. There are better games on the 360 and the 360 should be remembered for the games that had better substance over great sales. MGS will probably one of those games. Hype with substance, kinda like Floyd Mayweather. We know he talks a good one but he backs it up.

Also because the crux of the game is single player people who buy it late wont feel left out or feel like their 'late to the party' like lets say a multiplayer orientated game like COD4. It still sells well don't get me wrong but many people are turned off because they know they will probably get 'owned' If the MGS online starter pack is any good then MGS will be stepping into new territory plus this is Kojima's last MGS and MGS4 is the first 'next gen' version which has sparked peoples interests as I too couldn't be bothered with snake eater. This game will fly off the shelves.

I don't think Halo 3 was nearly as good as Halo 1 & 2. It was a solid shooter but it didn't live up to the hype.

Is that why Halo 3 is still one of the most played multiplayer games on Xbox Live? Are people still playing it because they are disillusioned or could it be that it's actually really fun?

Hype over substance, makes me come to think of Gran Turismo 5:Prologue. A game that lacks many features of it's competitors(damage modeling, deep customization etc), but gets an extreme amount of hype because of it's dazzling graphics. I love GT5:P, but if you are able to put things into contrast and compare them objectively it all becomes laughable.

Thx for the compliment. I'm still Old school cool. The problem is that many members(tools) of this site do not think you're OK if you, like me, find the 360 to be the console that offers most value/better games.

Nobody was talking about what gets 'played the most' Where did that come into this. COD4 shows me that it gets played the most so whats your point anyway? I was talking about sales and the fact that you mentioned 3.3 mill in 12 days or whatever. What's the sales for H3 now after so many months you see what I'm getting at. Maybe you misread or misinterpreted my comment because I saw what you put and I was just stating that MGS4 WILL sell well and not have 'mediocre' sales like its predecessor because of the reasons I stated that you seemed to of overlooked. Good for getting back anyway especially after so long.

I also feel that what Bathyj was implying was that you used to be cool with a 360 preference but whether its relational on your part or not you now just seem to bash a little more than necessary

If Halo 3 only had substance and nothing else, people wouldn't play it as much as they do.

Halo 3 has sold more copies(over 8 million in January) than any of the currently released Metal Gear Solid games(Metal Gear Solid 2 tops at around 7 million).

Are you saying quality games keep selling and selling? If so, how come none of the Metal Gear Solid games have sold more than 7 million copies considering they have been out for years? According to your logic they should have sold like 40 million copies each by now =)

Games sell while they're hot. IMO, the reason Halo 3 sold as many copies as it did is because it's a franchise that attracts both casual gamers as well as hardcore(weird considering it's an FPS). It's a game you buy alongside the console.

I think MGS4 will be the best part in the series, but I also think it will mostly attract hardcore gamers. 8 out of 11 million PS3 owners won't buy it. 2 million will, but not on day 1(as was the topic of this discussion).

I'm not bashing MGS4 in any way, I'm just trying to analyse it historically and logically.

If I had to choose I'd take MGS4 over Halo 3 any day, but that's just me.

Be the top selling PS3 game by year end

Shift More Units via bundles than any other

Be a truly great game and rated better than Halo 3 by honest media.

At the end of the day Halo 3 was not enough to make 360 sell more than PS3 in 2007. Motorstorm expands the audience. You can have shooter after shooter which caters to the people who own the system but to have a racer like Motorstorm is truly unique.

LOL this the biggest on the PS3, Halo 3 sold 4 million in a day, and almost 8 million total. 360 has 35 games in that million mark, PS3 has a limpy 10 with only a one year difference makes it 20, 360 still has 15 more and over 80 with 500k.
