Something else in there that is not getting much attention, but I think it's a great addition. Now, when in remote play on the PSP, you can have the output through your PS3's output. For me, this means music I play on the PS3 through the stereo can now be controlled anywhere in the house. Before, all I could do was go to the next or previous track, or go to the TV and see where a song was and change to it. Now I can do this all on the PSP as long as I am in signal range with the PS3.

It's in the Remote play options, at the bottom of the "Settings" menu. Nice addition Sony.

haven't downloaded it yet...but the xmb does seem quicker?...the PS forums had some rumors, that were never debunked, about 2.20 having some significant OS optimizations...in prep for Home and upcoming games that use the EDGE toolset (which allows devs to use more available memory than prior games)...its rumored that the in game OS footprint is around 40megs now...big difference from the 90 at launch...

if that Open Beta for Home is true for mid April, would make sense that this update has a lot more 'behind the scenes' stuff thats not immediately noticable yet...just hope in-game messaging is here with that open beta...and that it really is next month...

It seems to me BD live is a feature for the sake of a feature. I mean they have extras that require you to have the latest player and an internet connection. when they could have just put those extras on the disk itself. Instead they make it harder for everyone to use if not impossible without the internet connection and we all applaud them for this innovation.

Again i like Sony, I like Features, I like extra content, but with all the available space on the disk...it just seems unnecessary.

Whatever, now that BD is fully updated to 2.0 and all the media playback is excellent. The firmware team can fully concentrate on other stuff like in-game XMB, etc.

He's got a point. But he's still greatly underestimating the PS3.

As far as baby steps go, this is another step for the PS3's movie functionality. As misunderstood by the giant crab up there, this does not imply that Sony is neglecting its gaming functionality (rather in my opinion, its doing just fine).

As he may see it as us PS3 gamers being sold out to movie watchers, this is definitely not the case as gamers can be both understood as movie watchers at the same time. And while this year, Sony amp's up the PS3's gaming functionality, it is good to know that they have all bases covered...including HD movies.

Giant "Enemy" Crab is a good enemy, in terms of devils advocate.

I thought the Playstation 3 was a video game console... Why all the updates coming out have to do with movies or audio playback?

This is a console thats been out for 15 months and you still can't chat with friends playing other games or add friends while in a game.

But pretty SOON things will change right Sony fanboys. At some point in the FUTURE that you don't know... bite your nails wondering when oh when will my console I paid $600 at launch will have the basic features the 360 had on day one?

@1.7 Having a media center and game console in one is a good thing I just think they should implement the basic GAMING features its lacking before spending time adding stupid shat like this. Even the PSP movie copy thing was better this is crap.

@1.8 I'll gladly pay $1 a week to be able to private voice chat with any friend I want to matter what game their playing. So when you say its not nessary that really means "I have a phone so I can just call my friends to setup a game" yeah using your phone to coordinate online games of COD4 is real next generation... Not to mention more expensive than that $1 if you have to call long distance. Face it the PS3 is LACKING A MAJOR FEATURE. Stop making excuses. All you got is RROD. My 360 works fine and has better features than my PS3 PERIOD.

and it is- it's got it's exclusive games- it's a got a few great ones now and amazing ones coming

but it also does a lot of media functionality- which is very appealing these days

yeah you can complain about a game console being only for games- but when you can have great games AND media in a single box- why go for anything else?

What can't you get around your head? Its both a gaming console and a media player. Sony's working for BOTH aspects. I'm using it as a gaming console NOW, and i'm enjoying it that way. I don't need Halo or Gears of War, the PS3 has its own great games.

The console costs LESS than an Xbox 360 Elite and Premium. I paid $400 for its functionality as both a gaming console and an HD movie player.

The things on the 360 are extras on the 360. You sacrifice a game a year to have those features, I like the features I have now. The Bare essential online play, for nothing. The preps that your talking about aren't NESESSARY.

In the FUTURE there will be PROOF the money you spent was worth it. Right now there is no proof. Just believe us. One of these years we'll get HOME. One of these years we'll be able to chat with our friends playing other games. One of these years we'll be able to rent movies.

Sony hasn't even given a clue when these major featurs will come. The fanboys post a new rumor article everyday. Home coming in April. blah blah blah. I don't think they can pull this shat off. I think its probably buggy as shat in beta so they keep delaying. When it does come out it won't work like Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

JACK, the PS3 is future proof in a sense that in the future, it will still be able to retain full functionality with its associating technological advancements. You just took it out of context.

Although I agree that what Sony's touting at with HOME and online trophies or "achievements" (which I hate), I also believe that what was integrated into the 360 could have easily been integrated into the PS3 since its launch. I do blame Sony in that regard, with the extras and all, but with the bare essentials of Games, Online Play, and HD Movies, I'm satisfied with my console.

and oh boy- are you going to be a sour bunny if Home launches at the promised time

because we all know how you guys hate it when us PS3 owners get something great that can't be found on your console

but god forbid the possibility of Sony getting something out on time- i shudder to think of it

and btw- more than a year has passed, and i still don't feel the urge to have ingameXMB

it would be cool to have it, but it's absense doesn't create a hole in my life- not EVERY gamer relies on this feature- it doesn't ACTUALLY add to the GAMING experience

the PS3 provides much more important stuff to me- like immersiveness in games thanks to the SixAxis and PSeye features

or the Remote Play feature- that lets me play PSN games on my PSP at work or whilst travelling

or free online, a web browser, Linux, upgradeable HDD

but oh no- according to Jack Meahoffer all this stuff is FUD until we get the holy in-game MESSAGING

whatever- i like my PS3 and so do many others, and im not gonna listen to some idiot tell me the purchase was wrong and i should go with the 360
