The CoD4 PS3 patch has just been released

"The PS3 version of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4 patch has launched, according to this. As reported earlier, the update was nearing completion and was promised this week. Additions include:

* Optimized servers
* New Kill cams (grenades, RPG's, airstrikes, claymores, and more)
* Quick Mute (allows user to mute annoying players by pressing X on their user ID in the lobby)
* Addition of "Recently Met Players" for the PlayStation Network
* Improvements to the Sniper Rifles and Acog attachments (no more delayed shots)

How exactly is it Sony?...it is a 3rd party game, who knows when IW submitted the patch for licensing to SCEE...and with the PAL differences, it is very likely that the US was addressed first...thats not Sony's fault...although SCEE is notoriously slower than the rest of SCE at pushing stuff like this through...so maybe it is Sony's fault, SCE of Europe anyway...

and Scottie...yeah the forums are exploding about that...IW stated they would not patch in DS3 support 'at this point in time'...so definitely not in yesterday's patch...and potentially never...kind of sucks, they are the only developer I have seen react like that...

they are crappy about the DS3...but have you seen there sixaxis replacement program?...apparently i am not the only one that has nearly destroyed a sixaxis playing CoD 4...the way the run function works, a lot of people end up getting a stuck right stick (neutral gets all messed up, most say you end up always moving forward even after letting go of the stick)...

they will replace any faulty sixaxis though with a brand new one...at least thats what they were saying...haven't heard anything new about it, but one of my two sixaxis controllers is showing some wear and tear from that game...7 days and 10 hours could do that though...

...any of you all are now experiencing a subtle but very deadly bit o' lag. It seems to only happen to one team in the match. That's what happened on the 360 version and it's totally ruined playing one of the best games of the year for me.

2.1 - The biggest downfall for
me with the ACOG is how slow it is to zoom. The red dot is still good for further away yet, is also good for up close and personal situations. I also hate how you can't steady yourself with the ACOG and sniper. I'm going to give it a shot but, I'm mostly excited about the quick mute funtion and the recently met players. IMO, the largest negative of COD4 is that it doesn't even come close to RFOM for friends, matchmaking and online reliability. Hopefully this patch will help fix that.

From what I can tell, the muting function only works from mid-game (pressing "select" to bring up the players). It wouldn't work for me mid-lobby.

Yeah, the ACOG is slow to zoom and only zooms at half power of the normal scope, but it's good for medium-range, which is where I am most accurate with a scope, and still works ok for close range. Try shooting someone close range with the normal scope... And it doesn't really need to be steadied because it barely moves.

i never really liked the acog scope. I did go through a phase, but i found i couldn't use it well most of the time. It got annoying using it when all the time like if a enemy was right near you. I found that the red dot sight, at least for me, was good for up close, and medium range.

but i am going to try it out again.

The red dot is good, but it seems like there are always campers in most games that are impossible to spot or get a shot at without a long-zoom weapon.

the mute thing is great...I can finally just mute everyone but my friends and actually understand what they are saying...

as far as the ACOG...I too went through a fairly long stage of using it...an ACOG on a G36C was pretty much my favorite weapon setup...and for a while I was using steady aim too, which made me not need the site for close range at all...

it wasn't until I did prestige for the first time and then switched back to the M16 to start out, and attatched the reflex once it was availalbe...haven't looked back since...the loss of accuarcy with the ACOG is retarded...the m16 is nearly a sniper rifle in terms of range, but it just splatters bullets at anything over medium range with an ACOG...you can still see them with the reflex too...only difference is that when using the reflex, they will fall down...

that and the profile with the ACOG is annoying as well...the G36C with an Acog takes up almost the entire right side of the screen...I would always miss noticing a camper to my right when using that setup...I will be sticking with silencers and red dots forever now most likely...

now I am just trying to unlock all the gold weapons...and 150 headshots with the MP44 sucks...my KDR has been in a downward spiral for a few weeks now...

Umm, it was Sony's fault that there was a lawsuit. They breached a copyright/patent agreement. If there had not been such an outcry for rumble after the PS3 was released then Sony never would have settled to include rumble in the PS3 controller.

i feel your pain, but its not sony's fault.

i too feel weird now when playing COD4 since it is one of a few games that don't support rumble.

NBA2K8, Madden08, and GRAW2 also are missing it and its irritating going from rumble to no rumble.

sony needs to push ALL the devs to patch ALL the games......now that i think of it, maybe it is their fault.

Actually, lack of Rumble is Sony's fault. If they had released rumble from day 1 for the PS3 instead of the much hyped but utterly useless sixaxis nonsense, then COD4 would probably have supported rumble from day 1 also on the PS3.

I just wish they'd fix the stupid sight accuracy. IT's almost dead on accurate with EVERY gun when you go into the sights, really takes away the joy of a sniper rifle. Don't believe me? Get an M60 and "fire from the hip" onto a wall, see how inaccurate it is. Now go into your sights, see how almost 100% accurate that is? Going into your sights shouldn't make a weapon more accurate, just better shots when firing a single shot. The accuracy of the weapon shouldn't make that much difference at all in sights. Ugh, my biggest pet peeve of the game.

At least we have the mute option, but I'd like to turn off ALL people using their mics if the sound is going through the TV. It's not really comfortable when you're at a family friends house(they're hefty Christians by the way) and you play COD4 and all the sudden its a swear fest, people calling each other very inappropriate names, or a guy who has one of those super awesome expensive 150ft range bluetooth headsets and is in the bathroom. I don't need to go to detail about that.

Lots of problems with COD4 but it's still an awesome game. If you disagree with me your console of choice sucks(if you hit the disagree button without telling me why, of course..) MUAHAHAHAAHHA!!!

Since CoD 4 already comes with a crosshair, without the accuracy boost there wouldn't be any reason to use the sights at all in medium range. Peeps will just run around hip shooting everything. If you want to hip shoot get the steady aim perk.

Just tried playing COD4 and no message saying a newer version is available. Wondering when it will be available in this part of the world...

Oh yes, I just hope the fix for scopes/sniping don't mean a huge increase in the number of snipers in the game. All the maps are far too small for snipers - takes f**k all skill to camp somewhere and take potshots at people especially when you dont have to factor in gravity or wind. I wish IW also made it so you could only have 1 sniper per team per game.

...is that if the Host quits the game the game still ends but all other players are returned to the lobby to start a new game minus the host.

I may be wrong - I certainly hope so.
