Devil May Cry 4 = DMC 1 + DMC 3

Gameguru.in write-"FINAL WORD:The entire game feels like playing a souped up version of the original Devil May Cry and its third iteration, which is not necessarily a bad thing but it isn't a good thing either. The series is bound to fall if proper steps are not taken to introduce a fresh batch of creativity to the series. This is the best action game that has been released during this year and should keep people trigger-happy for quite some time.

Better than: Devil May Cry 3

Worse than: God of War 2"

2 - Better than: Devil May Cry 3 ?
WTF!! Thats utter bullcrap.

DMC4 is way worse then DMC3. It lacks wide variety of weapons, moves, enviorments, bosses, story and dante.

DMC4 is one of the worse dmc it gives dmc2 some food for thought (buts its not that sh!tty). Nero, 50%+ Recycled Enviroment, 100% Recycled bosses, Lacks of Moves and weapons, No variety in DT makes this game sh!t.

I regret buying collectors edition.

I agree. DMC3 was better. Why? More content. This DMC has easily the least secrets yet, and its disappointing. I'm not going to blame systems, but I definitely think multiplatform development hampered what this title could have been, not from a technical standpoint, but a CONTENT standpoint. I mean, no hidden costumes even? Rehashed bosses AND levels? It's not even like rematches, its just the same thing OVER again. Virgil 1, 2, 3 felt fresh. Phantom felt like a menace. But now its like "Didn't I JUST fight you?" syndrome.

I love DMC4. It looks amazing. But god if it doesn't smack of rush job in most areas. Which is disappointing. Yeah I'm all for great visuals, but I want the content to go with it. (Hence why I will be disappointed if the ONLY secrets in MGS4 are Tuxedo, Young Snake mask, and Optic Camoflauge like every other game.)

4 - my opinion
Although i have just completed DMC3 and im now on DMC4, i have to say for a fact that DMC4 has really impressed me. Before buying the game three days ago, i looked at a couple of reviews that depicted the game as a disappointment. But to my greatest surprise, a hands-on test myself really made me think twice about what the reviewers had said.

First off, its obvious capcom know their graphics. This game looks amazing on my HD-TV and it impressed me as much as Uncharted: Drakes Fortune Did. The story-line is something i like as-well because they use each opportunity they can to shed light on what is happening. i Know alot of people dont like Nero as the main character, but i think its alright, and he gets the job done. He doest have a variety of weapons like our traditional dante, but he does have the ability to upgrade his skills and perform new moves.

I seriously prefer the control in dmc4 to dmc3 because they feel more fluid, responsive and accurate.

Capcom are very lucky they put effort into the PS3 version of the game because a bad port would have made alot of ps3 owners confirm thier worst fears, that capcom is being paid alot to show preference for the xbox360 side of the fence. but since they did a fantastic job, it shows there might still be hope...

All in all, im very very impressed with this game, and prefer it slightly to dmc3. im only on mission 9, so i havent gone very far. But so far DMC4 = very good.

In terms of graphics, yeah it looks gd but aside from looking gd, I don't see anything that last gen couldn't do. Maybe the bosses are a little bigger but technically there aren't much improved from last gen.

This is a 2nd-gen PS3/3rd-gen 360 game, Capcom chould've done better.

If you're not moving forward, you're going backward.

You guys are nuts. DMC 3: SE was a damn good game indeed, but this one blows it out of the water hands down. Sure you don't have that many weapons and it feels a bit slower. But the animation, graphics, story and sound is way better. The enemies are diverse, not your generic hell sloths or whatever. Bosses are freaking amazing and the devil bringer makes the game hella fun. Plus you get two very different characters (Vergil and dante played similarly in 3), and a decent story with some really cool cut scenes. I plan to finish all difficulties and play bloody palace just for kicks once in a while. This game is ace if you are an action games fan, don't listen to all the losers that come on here and say "it didn't meet their expectations", no game can touch the depth and excitement of this game in the genre, so please give me a break, what do you want, dante to come out of the TV screen and shake your hand? will that make the game better. The game is awesome, buy it, there is no chance you will regret it unless your a spoiled little b*tch.
cheers

What would make the game better? Well, in my opinion...

- More secrets. Howabout some new costumes/characters like Lady/Trish to play as that controlled slightly differently? Remember how awesome LDK was in DMC1 with the winged shadow?

- New areas for Dante, not rehashing Nero's sections

- More bosses, only 1 rematch level at the end, instead of constant rebattling

- Drop that lame artificially lengthening dice game.

The game isn't bad, far from it... but the content is just lacking compared to the past DMC's IMHO. This is supposed to be next gen, and the only thing getting a boost is the visuals. It's just a bad trend when the gameplay and content can't get the same boost.

7.1 - DMC4
Has got to be the most overrated game of 2008 so far, it was the same old game with improved graphics, typical of the Japanese these days.

If it weren't for the backtracking I could wholeheartedly say that DMC4 edges over DMC3:SE. As it stands though they're about even to me, because 4's combat depth and storyline is tops.

Exactly. The cinematics are better in DMC4 because Dante doesn't behave like he's on drugs. And the backtracking and the stupid Dice game in Mission 19 killed the edge that DMC4 had over DMC3.

The backtracking wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't blatantly lazy. Fighting the SAME exact bosses? Come on!! The only stand out mission from that was 17 which happened to be my favorite mission in the game because of the sheer variety of enemies. The dice game never bothered me, I figured out the pattern to do what I want the very first time I came upon it as Nero.

Dante was far more likeable in DMC4 than he was initially in 3, yes he was young in 3 but did he have to be so retarded? Also having all the styles and weapons at your disposal at any given time made the already outstanding combat engine more malleable than ever.

I personally enjoyed DMC4. Yes, it feels like DMC1 + DMC3 at times, and yes bosses and environments are rehashed, and yes there are no secrets. But what is there is fun. The combat is fun. The weapons are fun. The bosses are fun (accept for Mission 19, I hated that fvcking level). I admit, it is incredibly disappointing that there are no additional costumes, but then again, I was never good enough at DMC to beat it past normal mode (except for DMC2 where you pretty much close your eyes and beat Dante Must Die). Anyways, I personally like it and it got the scores that it deserved. 8.5's are an accurate depiction of what the game is. Good, but not as great as the 9's of God of War and Ninja Gaiden.

11 - i just beat it today
i have to say I think capcom recycled the levels so it would fit on a dvd and make it seem long. The game goes likes this nero you fight all the bosses get to the end get trapped then dante goes backwards refights all the bosses has a final battle, then nero re-re fights 6 of the bosses (soooo lame) has a final battle game over, very freaking repetitive, in noway was it better then dmc3 it was equal at the best. there were a ton of times i kept saying my god i need to stop playing this.

I'm kind of glad this article is here.... This is just my opinion obviously but i was not looking forward to this game... I felt that the DMC series got a little corny...

I remember this game and Onimusha Warlords getting my attention on PS2 days...

I wish Onimusha was the game that kept going....

14 - MIDGARD GOD OF WAR 2 WAS AMAZING!
I Just felt cheated and your right credo was not reused but all the other bosses were, not just 3 i don't know were you got that from, i like nero's story, but what the hell did Dante have to do with it, he felt very thrown in, and the boss fights with dante felt off, because you did not have nero's arm. don't get me wrong i like the game, but it felt like you were doing alot of going back and forth. GOW2 on the other hand was very progressive and dude it was a ps2 game that felt "epic" great story, always new mechanics in the game, not just fighting but enemies. anywho.

16 - In No Way
In no way is DMC4 better than DMC3 except in graphics which is hardly a fair comparison considering the systems involved. The current generation of consoles is plagued with gaming media hyping up games to the nth degree and I for one am getting a bit weary of everything that comes out either being screamed about for being the best thing ever created or screamed about for not being the best thing ever created. There can be no more "decent" or "pretty good" games anymore, everything has to be blockbuster, blow your doors off, hands down the best thing EVER... Or it sucks.

I couldn't stand dante in dmc3, he seemed like some guy you see in mental institutions.

In dmc4 dante is the definition of "cool" and suprisingly he doesn't look like your typical girly man.

Dmc4's gameplay is far more tight compared to dmc3 and being able to use all styles at once just makes it even better.

Dmc4 only loses points on its backtracking, in no other way is dmc3 better.
