i think the DMC4 accomplishments are exactly the same as with the 360 version but the PS3 version doesn't have a point system that scores your progress. I think that's where the trophies come in instead of points

Thanx meeps. Persistant score would be better to keep gamers coming back for more.

No matter how much I want to disagree with you...I honestly believe you are correct. I will hold of judgement of the trophies until I see how they are implimented. The gamerscore is off the charts. You can even get your 15 seconds of fame on X-Play for your gamerscore displayed around the world... I can't see how Sony could display the number of trophies a person got for a game.

*edit* Maybe...the total number of trophies earned would be like the gamerscore??

Discuss!

i know what you mean, i am looking forward to see how you can display your trophies in HOME, maybe have a massive wall of them =p but i like the way Microsoft have made the 360 with the achievement points.

i have about 10,800 gamerscore and its good when someone has noticed you have managed to do something really difficult such as me completing and getting the FULL 1000/1000 achievement points for COD4 in three days =p i got countless messages saying stuff like wow how did you do this lvl and that lvl etc etc.

[EDIT]

would be weird being rewarded a trophie for breaking a dogs neck (COD4 achievement)

3.1 - I like Rewards better than any of those
Of course if they call them rewards, you had better be rewarded with something when you get them.

For some reason, I like the idea of having trophies, pictures, etc. to put in your virtual home space.

Thats what i dont like comments like that. In your mind its like you have a list checking off all of the advantages of live against psn while sony plays catch. You cant beat an originator by just adding a simple gimmick. Its like with sony most of the games are fun and they develop a lot of them because the minds at sony are originators hence, all these new titles that are exclusive in house games. Compared to 360 where most things are 3rd party exclusive to 360. So just like Sony are originals and wont have to worry about games as much as microsoft, microsoft has great minds behind live and no matter what gimmick psn does to play catch up feature wise microsoft will always be coming up with something new and original while sony plays catch up.

Now as much as i cant what to see the trophy system, in the long run it'll be very annoying having to go to someones house to see look at a trophy case, while on live its right there easy and simple on a menu, cause no matter what any fanboy says in the end its about gaming and making gaming amongst gamers simple and fun. Now dont get me wrong when home comes out i will be playing around with it very much and having fun for about a couple of months but after that itll be let me just get into my games. Just like they say in the n4g podcast they played with home when it first came ut alot but the gimmick wore off now its just about the games. Not an avatar and an apartment.

Anyway I dont thinnk it will be points they just tell you u did so and so and when home comes out you will receives trophies shirts etc.

8.2 - I agree a little with frag
Just because Sony is going to imitate the achievements doesn't mean we already know the Achievements on 360 will be invalid as to reason which version of a game is better. Home is still a while off and Sony has a history of exaggerating their projects. And for all we know Microsoft could enhance the achievements, if it sees fit, such as actually getting live points or whatnot.

sony should just do it like this,

trophies=achievements you know get them when you do certain things withing a game.

say you get a certain amount of trophies/achievements in a title, now that amount becomes an accomplishment.

than rewards is what you would get for getting a certain amounts of accomplishments.

than this simply means i don't know money for use on the ps store or use for items in home, such as tv's posters, shirts and such and such.

so it will look something like this, 1.trophies 2. accomplishments 3.rewards

don't know just an idea thats all, heck if i were sony thats what ill do for the sake of confusion.

or what about Entitlements? well i guess they can go in between accomplishments and rewards. after you get a certain amount of accomplishments you get a message like say your entitle for a reward?

i don't know lol just an idea, just ideas thats all.

what do you guys think?

That I'm confused as to which to get. I got the original and loved it on the 360, but will the ps3 be better? I just wish there were some reviews up.

Well, I'd still rather see a point total than look at trophies. Plus, don't you have to view them inside someone's Home space? Are you able to select a user in a current game and compare games like on XBL? Or do you have to log out of a game, click on Home, go to the user's home and view the trophies? I'm curious.

look HOMe is there for your pleasure pretty much, if you like to see your trophies in 3d than homE is there for that, now as soon as you leave home there is going to be a trophy icon on the xmb this has been shown the 1st time HOMe had surfaced so i don't expect this to change much.

16 - i think you get one big trouphy
that lists all the achievments you had in the game. Maybe certain achievments like beating a game three times or completing a game 100% should get you something nice to hang in your HOME space.

Its really endless if you think of it. Lets say i want to hang a map from Warhawk on my wall. That would be kinda cool.

Now will HOME really have War Rooms like they talked about on Warhawk? Will you be able to go hang around the GT5 lounge and find a race?

If so then you see where this ends in a few years

im not going to flame but it would make the online world of gaming Sonys. I must thank MS thou. If it wasnt for them online gaming wouldnt have evoled like it has.

But hey what can i say

They had 5 years making money on XBL and Sony just grabbed the cookie from there hand and are now dipping it in 360's milk

lol are you serious? Microsoft doesn't need blu ray why would they bother with an add-on? same goes kid. they didn't need an HDMI why build 360's with them? again same goes kid.

to make it short and sweet, why don't we just say that we are quite a spoil bunch and we love to have it all, features keep em coming as long as they don't cost me a dime than yeah bring on the features, its called play-station for a reason, whatever you guys have that we don't we should have and more whether that being a blu ray player or some online account. the only thing we wouldn't want is the bad but anything thats good and attract sales to your platform we will take as well.

with the exception of a few heavily paid for exclusives, which i might add we too have our share as well.

but i have no beef so chill, im just giving you an answer to your question.

You can have what you want. I'm not denying you anything I'm just asking why after all the mockery from ps3 fanboys about accomplishments why the change in attitude now?
It's not as if you have it yet to change your mind through experience?

It strikes me as typical knocking just because it's M$ and not because there was anything wrong with accomplishments in the first place.

It's not the first time this has happened. Rumble?
Ps Home?
Having a technically superior system. (i am going back a generation as well)
It smacks of childishness and the need to feel superior.

18 - That's cool..
but still doesn't make the PS3 achievements any more appealing to me. The whole system is still a mess and nobody knows how these achievements will be implemented into their online framework.

Achievements = Gamerscore = Why I will buy it on 360 (besides it being a great game)

If it's not appealing to you, why do you care? no one is forcing you to buy a PS3. I just simply don't get it, if you don't care then why do you even bother to mention it? maybe you feel insecure about it and want to share that insecurity?

21 - quite a few PS3 games have had an
"Achievement" type system already. they don't tend to go under the name of "Achievements" but they are there.

the haters who have never touched a PS3 are the only folks who have been touting a games superiority to the PS3 version due to Achievements, when PS3 fans have been enjoying the feature in certain games already.

Heavenly Sword: not Achievements, per say, but the better you do at levels earns you "points" that unlock extras

Resistance: your character gets metals and "points" for doing certain tasks in the game (kill 30 Chimera with Fareye, or something like that)

Ratchet and Clank: the Ratchet series has *ALWAYS had Skill Points, and they return in Tools of Destruction. i don't remember how many their are total, but the points you earn can be used to buy unlockables like movies, cheats, and new skins.

The Darkness: had "Accomplishments" which were the same as Achievements, but they didn't let you unlock anything. just kept track of what you've achieved.

Uncharted: you get Medals for doing certain things (10 headshots, killing 3 people in one explosion five times in a row, etc), and you get points for each medal earned (ranging from 5-150 points). the points you earn can be used to unlock things like movies, photo galleries, new skins, unlimited ammunition, one shot kills, slow motion, and a lot of other stuff.

those are just the few that came from the top of my head.

i don't know why people act so surprised when a PS3 game is revealed to have some sort of "Achievement" like feature, as PS3 owners are familiar with them on certain PS3 games. in short; it's not anything new to PS3 fans, just 360 fanboys that didn't think the PS3 would ever get something as "awesome" as Achievements. *rolls eyes*

personally, i don't like Achievements unless they give you something in return for achieving it (ie, unlimited ammo, new weapons and skins, etc). on the flip side, my fiance *LOOOOVES Achievements, and is currently trying to get all of the Achievements in Mass Effect. it's just an area where we differ in opinion, and neither is wrong, or right, for that matter(though i do tease her about it, just to see her face get red). it's just personal preference.

is it good that more and more PS3 games are getting "Achievements?" sure, why not. maybe it'll shut up some of the irritating fanboys. but a good game is a good game, achievements or not (i doubt someone is going to argue against me saying that Bomberman: Act Zero was a sh*tty game, even though *IT had Achievements. you could slap an Achievement value on me taking a crap, but that doesn't change the fact that it's still sh*t). i'll replay a good game, even if i've already *UNLOCKED everything (ie, i've already unlocked all the medals in Uncharted, but i still play the game. why? because it's so damn *GOOD).

21.1 - In-game unlockables are not the same thing as achievements
I have a PS3 and a 360, I only play exclusive games on the PS3, like Drake, heavnly sword, and RFoM, the rest I buy for the 360.

I actually slow down when I play 360 games and try to get the achievements.. but on the PS3, I just race through finish the game and pretty much never look back.

The 360 game i sometimes will go back and replay it to get certain achievements.

From day one, when i saw the "Achievement Unlocked" pop-up, I knew this was going to a great hook. It's excatly like the old arcade games where you could put your name in if you were near the top.

Now that Sony is copying it, let's see how this turns out.
