Are PS3 Entitlements Back? (Dark Sector Announcement Provides A Clue)

We all know what Xbox 360 Achievements are.

They've produced countless Achievement whores, and many see Achievements as a way to measure a gamer's success.

Today, D3 Publisher of America not only announced the Xbox 360 Achievements for Dark Sector, but also PS3 Entitlements for the game. Remember Entitlements?

1 - I am So getting this game
and the multiplayer seems different than most 3rd person action shooter offerings... I cant wait. and i hope Sony enforces it. finding easter eggs has always been a fun thing to do in games of yesterYear.

Accomplishments to be is basically sounds like something you have completed and been rewarded for whereas Entitlements to me sounds like something you can now play, because you completed something beforehand.

In other words both have slighty different meanings

5 - Achievments are great, it's only abused by people with too much time on their hands
Glad to see ps3 owners are getting something similar in this game.

7.1 - @Mr.Blings
Sony are "adding" to the achievements concept. On the PS3, your gamerscore (or w/e it'll be called) won't simply be useless points you rack up over time. They'll be spendable. The "entitlement" or "accomplishment" points you earn in games can be used for things like downloadable content (possibly), products in Home such as furniture and accessories to deck out your pad (this alone will be awesome), and the virtual trophies you'll get for your trophy room. That's freakin' sweet. And it'll definately put the 360's dull "gamerscores" to shame. Dude, your misinformed or something.

Sony is not restricted to simple achievements points due the Home's reward system that allows to have more than simple points

8.3 - Why would they be any different
When they serve the exact same purpose?

Adding to a number that really doesn't mean anything.

Besides, isn't that what always happens? Companies follow other companies that have a good idea? If that wasn't the case, there wouldn't even be a 360 right now. Or a PS3. Or a Wii.

8.4 - its still
sorry...I know its not gonna be all that different, but atleast make an attempt to make it a tad bit more creative then just cut and paste from the 360

don't get mad at me, get mad at sony for their ideas about how to make a better PSN system, if you feel so confident about the XBL and the Sony's "ripoff" then try to remember that many innovations are created thanks to the imitation.

I really don't care about achievements, in the useless "E-Penis" sense

I want them IN GAMES, so I can unlock features, IN GAMES. I don't need a useless 'gamerscore'

I'm fine with Sony doing it, but I just never really cared. This really is not something that makes one systems greater than the other IMO. It's all about what you get unlocked in the game.

Make up your mind, accomplishments or entitlements? I wonder if DMC4 is going to get patched for the name change if they go with the latter.

12 - Achievements Points
Don't really care much about the Achievement Points or those stupid little prestige symbols on Call Of duty 4. To me it just means that you spend more hours playing than we do.

I mean seriously what do you want me to do with all those cyber throphies, show it off? No thanks! I think most people are content to play the games and have fun with it. However if you're one of those Hardcore gamers thats spends all of your day sitting in front of your TV playing videogames while it's warm and sunny outside... then I guess go ahead and do what you gotta do.

Agree or Disagree?

Yeah i agree about the Cod prestige but I do like getting the golden weapons. I think that feels more accomplishing than doing the prestige. I did prestige once and never again will I. I think the achievements for PS3 will appeal to those hardcore gamers though.
