Frontlines: Fuel, frustration and fun

Mixed feelings about Frontlines: Fuel of War, which recently scored a "5" from IGN.

From the article: "THQ and Kaos jumped through a lot of extra hoops with Microsoft to allow 32-player DEDICATED servers (supposedly this will be increased soon to 50-players) on Xbox Live. For me, and everyone I know, these servers are nearly useless. If you're lucky enough to actually get in to one of these matches, it's only for about 6 seconds, and then you load out to the all-too-familiar "This match is no longer available" screen. Something is broken here.

None of the core elements of the game had any major issues, and despite the frustration, this game is HIGHLY addictive. "One more game" syndrome set in on Friday night and I played until almost 5:30am. I've never even done that kind of stand in Call of Duty 4, one of my favorite games ever. I think once THQ and Kaos figure out the bugs and re-evaluate their comms choices, this is going to be a sure go-to-game for anyone with the desire to live out their fantasies of mass-destruction."

2.1 - It's one of "those" games

If you go into it expecting to be wowed at every minute reviewable detail, you'll be disappointed. If you go into it looking to have a BLAST... IMO you'll love it.

Just my opinion though.

4 - It already has 50-player matches

Apparently, no one knows how to play 50-player games on xbox-live. Go to quick match and search through the lists with the left or right triggers to find the 50-player matches.

Well the future must already be here it is called metal storm. Virtually all the vehicles and UGV's (un-manned ground vehicles)in frontlines is real including both attack helicopters though the commanche stealth helicopter never entered production. The grenade launching ugv's use caseless electronically fired ammunition that is stacked in the barrels. If one shot fails to fire the one behind it will fire it out anyways.

5 - I really like this game....

I had that small copter go into the building and search for people too kill...and nothing beats having that remote controlled car going under a tank and blowing it up....THE only problem I have recommending it is the broken multi player..you cant even talk..but im sure the devs will fix it...other then that it is a quality title.

i get lag in 32 player matches (if i can get in one) and can't talk to people. I can't even private chat someone when im playing this game online.

the 16 player matches are boring, you never seem to find anyone on the map.

this game will be excellent when it is fixed, i am confident of this because i could not play cod4 online when that was released.

i hope it does change to 50 players, that would be cool

I'm enjoying this game as well. The KAOS team often reply on the Xbox.com forums, so yes they are aware of the bugs and are working to fix them. They are even trying to add proximity chat and some other squad based chat things.

EDIT.....
...and after doing a quick read through, they said they've fixed the connection issues. That was quick. Good support from these guys!

you know what the funny thing is? this game isnt on the ps3. all ps3 fanboys are going on about MGS4 yet there craptacualr console cant even run unreal engine 3 properly. hahaha they shoulda bought a 360 like normal people instead of wasting there money on a paperweight.

yet another great game on the 360, while PS3 offers nothing but empty hype. The only thing the PS3 has proved so far is what it CANNOT do.

_____ 1) You don't own a PS3 or any of its games, so you can't experience its fully delivered quality, and so you can't comment on its 'empty hype.' 2) The PS3 has proven a lot, and I'm sure you already know that due to its release of high quality games last year such as Uncharted, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Folklore, and other sleeper hits.

_____ Thats obviously an exaggeration. Insomniac is a small studio, and they're preparing to release their 3rd game on the PS3 around the PS3's second birthday. And I can only expect the same from developers who spend time to learn about the intricacy and complexity of the Cell Broadband Engine.

_____ Unreal Tournament III runs better than the slightly-less-than-HD Halo 3, which proves beyond a doubt that the PS3 can handle the Unreal engine just fine. The only reason Gears isn't on it is because Microsoft has exclusive rights to it. Seeing as your calling the PS3 a paper weight (no doubt, you don't even own one to justify that comment), all your saying is just damage control. Speaking about paper weights...
